PXG Sugar Daddy Wedge Reviews??

tigerfan23

Recommended Posts

going to get fitted for PXG 0311 T or T / P combo in a few weeks.

Hoping to fit into 0311 T 3-PW.

I tried the standard 0311 wedges and weren't crazy about them. Fine on straight edge shots struggled to do anything else with them

The 0311T sugar daddys look versitle like a Vokey M Grind. I'm perfectly happy with SM7 but If I pull the trigger on the PXG i might as well go all the way and the get 0311T Wedges as well.

Looking for some reviews.

I have 0311 and 3011 XF and while I demoed Sugar Daddy outside, just did not believe they were that special ... and $750 for a wedge, a club you'll wear down and replace relatively quickly. I think better options abound. I'd look at the Ping Glide Forged - small head, aggressive grind, great feel. and has some nice milling. Besides the fact that Ping and PXG have incestual issues, so you have similarities.

I hit them Sugar Daddy, Zulu, and Romeo at wedge fitting because I could, they were on the wall, why not give them a swing. They are nothing special. Even the fitter told me he never fits anyone into the PXG wedges unless the person asks for them, its 750 for the regular wedge and an extra 100 for the black finish. You can get a set of SM7s for the price of one wedge.

I’ve got a couple of Sugar Daddy wedges on order (50 bent to 51, and a 56) and also a Zulu 60 bent to 61. I hit them at a recent demo day and they performed really well. Performance is comparable, but feel is far superior to my somewhat clunky SM7s.

Wedges are wedges. There’s not a huge amount manufacturers can do to make their wedges stand out from the crowd. It all comes down to personal preference with the look, feel and suitable grind.

I've had a lot of Vokey's over the years as they have alot of options available. But I now have the PXG forged milled wedges and they feel better than the cast Vokey wedges.

Special? You bet!!!!

They look impressive.

Feel only goes so far. Like anything PXG, if you have the wallet, want someting unique lookng, and it works... But if you're looking for a club to solve your wedge game issues, don't go there or to any wedge. Find a technique/method that works for you.

While I agree with BB I wasn't going to fork over $750 a wedge for the Darkness. Decided to go a step below and love the spin and options these give me.

I hit the 0311 wedges, too, as well as the milled - the 0311 were not for me. I also prefer the Glide 2.0 Stealth to many wedges on the market. The new Glide Forged has a grind between SS and TS.

As to PXG, I think the irons and hybrids are the best clubs they make. Putters are also excellent when you find a fit.

  • 4 months later...

I love mine I have the 52,56,60 and really like them a lot. I felt like the feel was much better than my previous wedges which were Callaway MD forged. I also liked the romeo grind it just works well for me out of the bunker. Overall they spin well and feel incredible. For a player like me who enjoys the wedge/chipping game the least of any part, having the wedges has made it more enjoyable which probably seems shallow but the wedges look and feel special.

Everyone talks about the price which I admit is outrageous. I wanted them after hitting them so bought them. The number of strokes I'm saving, if any, is probably not proportionate to the increased price, but if you have the money I'd say go for it. they were definitely worth it for me.

I'm a big fan of mine. Sugar Daddy 50 and 54, with a Romeo 58. I got the Romeo to mostly open up around the green, so the different grind and lower bounce is nice. Feel is great and distance control on my wedges has never been better. Hard to say whether that's the wedges themselves or just an improvement in my game, but they definitely haven't hurt.

$750 a wedge is just insane. When I see someone with a full set of them, I don't know whether to laugh at them or pray for them.

Old thread -- as I peviously stated above, demoed it - it's okay but not anything special. Give me a Ping Stealth or Forged and I'll make the same shots.

I think you're better off buying 4 wedges - 2 each of SW and LW that fit you - one set for practice, the other for play for less than the price of a Sugar Daddy.

If you want to buy it fine. But so many other options for your money that can do the same or more.

Why would you laugh or pray for them? Sounds like good old Hater-aid to me. If they can afford them then who cares?

*sighs* The misunderstanding as old as time.

Of course you can do it if you can afford it. I think its stupid to pay 3x the price for the same thing no matter how much money you have. You are free to do whatever you want with your money. I am free to laugh at you for making silly decisions based on vanity. "I can afford it" aren't the same words as "I should do it". And when people do silly things (that hurt nobody but themselves - like buying $750 wedges) laughing at them is funny.

"Parsons is awesome. He's ex-military, and he gives back"

"Oh cool, what do you do then?"

"Well, for me, F charity. Check out this $800 lob wedge I got. Its my money so I can do whatever I want."

The Sugar Daddy wedge is the golf equivalent of getting "I'M THE MAN" sculpted in solid gold and gluing it to your trunk. You'd get laughed at for that, but it sure would be expensive and let people know you think you're the man. Probably only haters would think that is stupid though.

do you laugh when somebody pulls up in a 911 or Ferrari ?

A 911 or Ferrari have obvious and quantifiable performance differences.

Did they stamp "Sugar Daddy" in block capitals above the gas tank?

I bought a lightly used black finish left handed 54/58 pair on eBay this summer for $438 shipped after a 15% eBay coupon. Figured for $219 a piece I’d try them out. They do look cool and feel buttery soft. Not much tech in a bladed wedge though so YMMV. At the retail price way out of my budget, but I figured they’d match my set of half priced PXG XF irons nicely at 1/4 the price of new.
