Who's watching the newest season of Tourist Sauce?

 

I want to go to both Ireland and Scotland at some point, but feel like I want to do Ireland first, so I'm interested to see the whole season play out.

 

It's been a weird run so far.

 

They started out playing Tr*mp Doonbeg in the first episode, and it was very awkward. It was almost like they tried too hard to not be offensive about it. They avoided saying, or talking much about him. They didn't really talk about or show much of the golf course itself. They tried to play nice, and say how you were really supporting the gainful employment of the local community by playing there. If they didn't want to play there, they should've just left it out of the trip. Whatever.

 

The second episode, they play Lahinch. It was awesome. Not much more to be said.

 

I did not really enjoy episode 3, set at Adare Manor. I just have no interest including that in an Ireland trip. They spent a lot of time on filler, and sort of glossed over the golf at times.

 

Overall, I think Neil and Randy are turning out to be the most enjoyable on-camera personalities of the entire crew. DJ is also very enjoyable. In an upset for the ages, I think Tron is actually fine on camera, but don't enjoy Soly at all. He's clearly the best golfer, and was always great on the podcasts that I listened to, but I think he's kind of a turd in the video content.

I'm in agreement with your review. I've been watching and agree this season hasn't been as good - just seems to be missing some of the focus on what makes a GOLF trip awesome. I loved the California and Scotland seasons.

I haven't watched much of the video, but I did listen to their Ireland recap podcast. Same as you, I think it moved Ireland up on my list of bucket list golf places that I'll never actually go to.

It wouldn't work for every group, since it slants a bit towards the better golfer, but I think the hat pool they're doing for birdies is a neat idea. If you don't watch, everybody throws in a set amount each time a birdie is made, and the person who makes the last birdie of the trip takes the entire pot.

 

I liked the "tilt" game they did in the Scotland season. It would be fun to do that on a trip sometime.

Having done Ireland a couple times (including most of the courses NLU are doing this season, Soly's recent podcasts on his trip to England, one on links and one on heathland, have me really intrigued. That said, I'd have a hard time doing England before Scotland.

 

I agree that Soly is far from the most likeable NLUer on video. Seems to be a lot of preening to the camera. Randy is really the star of the show, with Neil growing on me. But Soly is so far and away the best at the podcasting game. His solo podcasts (like the aforementioned England trip recaps) really drove that home to me. I can deal with DJ in small doses, but the rest of the guys are net negative.
