Well if Shaun thinks that the shaft doesn't make a difference I really don't believe what I saw when I was watching my sons being fit on trackman for shafts .

One is a tour pro and the other d1 golfer.

Shafts made a huge difference. In all areas, launch angle, dispersion , spin and speed.

And neither liked the tensei pro orange

We know he had the tensei dialed in and could stripe on on the range. We know he’s got the new one dialed in and can stripe it on the range too. This is about being comfortable. That’s all. The level of specificity is so great these days these guys aren’t “giving up this to use that shaft” verses what they’d gain and give up using something else. When they get fit for something unless it’s a GAPR Lo the shafts heads and setups can handle the diversity of the workload.

he said in the interview it was just back to his old feels.

Similar set up to what he had with nike(loft and shaft).

I've been an MRC shaft user for years and I could easily game any of the Tensei Pro or D+ offerings. The PO spins a ton less for me vs my Diamana D+ and I have no issues controlling it. The PW Is by far the best fairway shaft I've ever hit.

Regardless of shaft choice, I wish Tiger the best of luck this week.

P.s I will not be selling my PO lol

Tested the new TS line last week and was able to test my Pro Orange against the D+ TX 70 as well and the Pro Orange was lower flight and spin for me as well. The Pro Orange seemed to load/unload a little easier as well. That being said since I already have the Pro Orange's I ordered my TS woods with D+ to tinker with....lol

It doesnt matter what shaft he uses.

He needs a shrink to get him to finally accept that it’s OK not to be the longest Slugger on the block anymore.

Go back to a 44” shaft and swing 85% and be OK with “only” hitting it 320.

He has done this in the past. After the 97 Masters he didn’t swing as hard and retooled his swing to hit more fairways. Why he won’t now, who knows.

I agree except that number would be around 285 average. I’m sure his 3 wood is good for 275 off the tee without much drama. . So there lies the issue. Why carry it at all !

Problem is that he can’t hit his 3W or UDI straight either

Slightly off topic...does anyone know what he went back to for his driving iron? Head? Shaft Pxi?!

He dropped the driving iron for the 5 wood at Ridgewood. Probably not what you’re looking for but he didn’t need the DI there.

During his Practice Rounds, he had a Psi Tour 2-Iron Head with a Project Pxi 7.0 shaft in the bag.

Love how each shaft stock goes up and down with tiger. I admit, I have fallen into the trap a time or two...or five.

Not surprisingly, a lot of the better players at my country club don't like it either but the ball speed increase was real. I like the TPW > TPO

  • 2 weeks later...

If we're believing the ball speed numbers on the broadcasts then it seemed he was in the mid 170's at boston compared to 180+ early in the season. Could be fatigue as well late in the season but I wouldn't doubt that the PO lends it self to more ball speed than the D+ for a lot of players. Looked like he was getting more out of it yesterday compared to boston though. Just some observations.

TW is definitely more accurate with this shaft, that shows. Not sure if he mentioned about loss of distance over accuracy since switching over?

Tiger’s swing has slightly changed too. He was squatting more at the beginning of the season and forcing the club through. Now he’s swinging more naturally.

Maxing his swing speed out on a simulator verses a compete in major swing

Tiger said yesterday that he is swinging easier and hitting it further with this combo. He does not have to swing as hard to clear and he is maximizing his launch conditions...

With the D+ you are referring?

AB TP 3HL / 757
XTD 19*/ Fubuki Ax
DWS 24*/ VS Proto

Yes, with the D+. He talked about it after his round yesterday.

Interesting! I figured (purely speculation) that he'd be giving up a few yards in exchange for control....!

I was thinking the same thing... The D+ is a firmer, lower launching shaft usually fitted for accuracy.

I'm not surprised that he ended up back in a Diamana, really. As Toll and other smart folks have identified, the "movement" in the market is to make low/low shafts not FEEL like like low/low anymore (stout, boardy, brittle, etc). They feel amazing now. But, some of these guys grew up with that feel bc their simply weren't a lot of shafts (if any) in that profile that actually felt good.

I'm not even that fast, but, I remember when the Tensei Whites, XTs, XDs of the world started hitting the market I was SHOCKED that they were more boring lowlow flight shafts. They felt WAY better than the older stuff I fit (WBs, Speeder Tour Specs). It's awesome that they are, but, maybe TW feels like he went "home" with the old stout feel. Of course, he did play earlier generations of this exact shaft.
