How do you organize your clubs in the bag?

Well not to be melodramatic, but this is something that keeps me up at night (not really..but stresses me out). I have re-worked almost my full set of clubs in the past 6 months and now have this internal struggle every time I look at my bag on how to organize my clubs. My previous set was very traditional with 2 woods, hybrid, 3-PW, 2 Wedges and putter. Super easy to put 3 irons in the middle slots, wedges down below, woods, hybrid and putter up top.

 

Well I now have gotten rid of the 3i and 4i and replaced with hybrids and the thought of putting that into a slot with my 5i has me all torn up plus I don't like the way it looks. I know I am probably waaaaaay over doing this but would love some feedback on how others organize their bag. Also, do you do woods on top of bottom? For reference i have a Sun Mountain 4.5 LS with 5 slots.

I feel your pain. I too have to have my bag organized. I have a bag with 14 slots so it's much easier. But when my instructor grabs a club then doesn't put it back where it belongs it bothers me and I have to rearrange my bag as soon as my lesson is over. At least he acknowledges he didn't put it back where it belongs and says something.

 

That being said I put the woods up top and go from long to short from there. I only have one hybrid so it fits in a slot between my woods and irons. 5-9 on one row. PW-LW on another and my putter on the bottom. Don't really like my putter on the very bottom because it is kind of difficult to get to but if I put it up top then it throws all my other organization off and that would bother me more.

I have a seven compartment carry bag, and I also carry two hybrids. But unlike you, I don't have a hang up with putting a 4h and 5i in the same slot.

 

The key is to use unobtrusive hybrid head covers. I like the Callaway sock covers:

 

I go driver and putter up top, 3w on top side by itself, 3h on other top side by itself, 4h and 5i in middle upper slot. For the lower slots, I go 6i and 7i on one side, 8i and 9i on the other side, and four wedges in the middle.

14 way stand bag. I split my bag in thirds. Woods (3) on one side, wedges (3) on the other side. 3i-9i down the middle in numerical order. There are days i have no business playing a 3i & 4i, but there's no chance of throwing hybrids in the bag to ruin its feng shui. And though id probably benefit with a thicker putter grip (flatso, etc.), i don't think it would fit in the putter slot.

I use a partitioned organizer bag from founders club- keeps my clubs organized, quiet and little to no bag chatter for my forged clubs- Works great

If the bag in the cart is facing you with the stands away from you and the 'front pocket' toward you - my woods first, then irons, then wedges in the back.

 

I used to put the woods in the back and structure it by height, but that doesnt work if you walk at all.

Woods up top, wedges at the bottom. FW and Hyb in the same slot. 22* Utility iron on same slot as 5 & 6 irons. Putter with Driver.

 

I had a friend who did opposite and it would bug me. His irons would bang against his wood shafts always.

 

My clubs have to be in descending order in the bag too, even when stored in my garage...

I have a Sun Mountain 4.5 14-way bag. When looking at the bag face on when the stands are out, it goes like this:

 

Dr/ Putter/4 Hy

4 wood/5/6/7

3hy/8/9/PW

GW/54*/58*

 

I've tried putting the 3 hybrid in the slot and then moving the 4 hybrid in the 5 iron slot, and then moving the 7 iron into the 3 hybrid slot for a few rounds. It doesn't last very long.

Are there any people like me left that hate 14 way cart bags (Push cart guy)? I have an old SUNMO speed cart bag with 7 slots - perfect!! 2 clubs per slot and driver gets its own slot (putter well included). I've been waiting years for a cart bag to come out with 6 slots (like in the old days) but I'll probably die before that happens. I finally gave in and bought a Ping Pioneer bag, hasn't arrived yet and well see how I handle the 14 slots : ( Staff bags are too big and useless on a push cart.

In my carry bag - SUNMO 3.5, six slots - also perfect - 2 clubs in each slot.

Just have a soft sided travel bag I toss all 14 in and they rattle around . I will fish my hand in there for what I need. 15 second rule applies, hit with that .

I use the bag on a push cart. This arrangement seems to balance out, as, the bag will stand vertically.

You can buy a bag or just the rack. The rack will only work on traditional style cart bags i.e. 9.5 inch, 6 way divider etc.

 

Has the added bonus of eliminating bag chatter

Clubs organized longest to shortest, right to left looking from the hard handle side. Even though I love it when my bag is organized and every club is sitting in it's right place, I definitely don't lose sleep over it nor does it distract me from my round. Lots of other things to worry about in golf.

 

Sounds like you problem really is "too many head covers" in the bag. more hybrids and fairway woods clutter up the bag. It's preventing myself and many others from playing more of them.
