Hm.  Not even close.  I've been going at least once a year since 2013, and there's lots of guys on this board that have been going annually for much longer.

 

That may be a record for most years played without finishing all the courses, tho...

Sounds about right. Makes a lot of sense. I've been going 25 of 26 years to Oceanside, Oregon staying in the same inn, in the same room perched over the cliff, looking out over the beach and the ocean. The only year we didn't go our son was just two weeks old. Wylie had grown old enough to play on the high school golf team and so we would take our sand wedges and practice bunker shots on the beach. Through the years: skimboarding, boogie boarding, frisbee, baseball, building sandcastles and hiking. Lots of good seafood thrown in.  And marshmallow roasts.

2022 was my 25th consecutive year playing Bandon. Started in late 1998 (the year before the official opening) with Shoe serving as our forecaddie. At that point, they’d just started work on the lodge, with only a concrete foundation built. Will be back March 2nd - 6th for year 26.

Should also point out it was a LOT more cost effective way back then, when Oregon residents paid only $35 per round during the off-season.

You've got me beat. I've been doing an annual February trip since 2002, after Pacific Dunes opened. It's been interesting seeing the resort grow in popularity. It was a much different experience (less crowded) the first ten years. We used to go to the bunker bar and have the place to ourselves most nights.

I may have a way less fun record.. I have had to cancel the last 4 years. 😂 Covid, injury, surgery, surgery. 

 

Breaking the trend by not booking for 2023, got 2024 booked though. lol

All this Bandon Talk (Plus my buddy is out there right now) got me to book a trip today 🙂  This will be my second trip and I did decide not to play Old Mac this time around.  I love the course but just feel the 4 others are that much better.

 

I could only get lodging for 3 days and am on waiting list for 2 more days so hopeful it opens up.

 

My trip is as follows (Might change some of these up as time goes on but I went with the earliest tee times possible)

 

Day 1 - Pac Dunes & Bandon Trails

 

Day 2 - Bandon Dunes & Pac Dunes

 

Day 3 - Sheep Ranch and Sheep Ranch

 

Day 4 - TBD

 

Day 5 - TBD

 

I cannot wait 🙂

Ha thank you! It is actually my wife that has had the two surgeries. 2 weeks into a foot surgery recovery right now. Hoping this is it. She played 1 round this past year at Sawgrass, hoping for a good 2023 🤞.

The great thing about ranking the Bandon courses is that there is no right answer….it’s all a matter of personal preference because they’re all so good. That said, here’s how I would rank them….

 

1.  Pacific Dunes

2. Bandon Trails

3. Old Macdonald

4. Bandon Dunes

5. Sheep Ranch (and it’s a distant 5th)

Going in mid February will the gorse be in bloom then?

Not fully but I believe it will have started. I went end of February 2020 and I remember it being much more picturesque then December.

I went in February this year after only having been on November trips, and while not in full bloom the gorse was still gorgeous and a really cool change from what I was used to.

How are frost delays "announced" at the resort?  Simply posted somewhere and word spreads?  

 

Surprised I have never had one, but looking at the cameras now and it looks beautiful, but no one on the course as they look frosted over.

Usually mentioned at the pro shops when I’ve experienced them. Some courses are more prone than others. OM has a tendency toward frost on the 1-2-17-18 section behind the ridge.
