45 minutes north in corvallis: https://trystingtree.com/

Tokatee east of Eugene but it is now closed for the season unless you are heading to bandon in the spring: https://tokatee.com/

there several more but further out of town.

Highly recommend this place though when in Eugene: https://www.fiddlersgreen.com/

I am spending a few days in Eugune on my upcoming trip to Bandon. Is there any courses in the area to check out?

Unless you have access to Eugene Country Club, which is VERY good, then no, none of the public courses in the Eugene area are all that special.  As mentioned above, Tokatee is closed for the season.  Trysting Tree in Corvallis, 45 minutes north of Eugene, is decent but not worth going out of the way for.  The closest course worth playing is Emerald Valley, 15 minutes south of Eugene in Creswell, but like Trysting Tree it's a decent course but nothing special.  You might consider Bar Run Golf, 70 minutes south of Eugene in Roseburg.  It's a brand new course that's gotten some national attention this year, but I haven't played it myself so can't speak to how good it is.  Others above have mentioned Fiddlers Green, but just be aware they're referring to the golf store only, not the golf course itself.  As a golf shop, Fiddlers Green is great but the associated golf course is just a super low-quality par 3 course.

I’ll be coming to Bandon early next year and on my travel day I’m staying in Roseburg ( with hotel points). Morning Sheep Ranch round the following day. Is the drive from there about an hour and a half ? I’ll be drinking the Bandon beers but is there a good Oregon bourbon for my flask ?

 Thanks y’all.

You'll mostly be playing Scottish style links courses at Bandon.  Your flask would welcome a single malt scotch from Scotland. I might recommend a Laphroaig or a Lagavulin.

Well the 10 day trip is over and I'm back home in the snow, 5 days and 10 rounds of which were at bandon, weather was quite solid, had two tough afternoons but the mornings were quite great. Count down till next year!

Allow two hours.  You’ll be on hwy 42, which is a beautiful and winding road.

+1 on the single malt for your flask

Little out of the way but a few of the caddies said the course in Florence is great.

There are 2 courses in Florence. One is formerly known as Sandpines, I think it’s Florence Golf Links now. Nothing special but a fun round. Not a links course at all but not bad prep to get you used to playing on a sand based; not just a sand capped, course. The other is Ocean Dunes, I believe, it’s golf. Nothing special and not as good as the other but you can stay at the casino and get a great deal.

Thanks I have a later a.m. round plus with the time change and excitement I’m sure I’ll be up pretty early. Honestly never really drank single malt just whiskey and bourbon but I’ll give it a shot.

Westward, Burnside and Ransom are the best imo; Oregon Spirit is pretty good.  Rogue (the beer maker) also does some distilling, but it is not the greatest.

Here is part of the Scotch whiskey menu from the Bunker Bar at Bandon Dunes. It's located in the main lodge.

To my knowledge there aren't an abundance of Oregon distilleries, and many of the ones in state simply source juice from elsewhere. A brief search shows Oregon Spirit as an actual made in Oregon whiskey/bourbon, but the distillery is in the opposite direction from Roseburg. Oregon's liquor commission is very different from the norm across the country, and as such they're required to keep a public (crappy) website that shows inventory for every liquor store location. There's a decent little liquor store in the town of Bandon, especially for the size of the town, that appears to have it in stock at the moment, as with many websites your mileage may vary. Store 1056 and you can see everything they have in stock.

I’m about 20 days out from my annual solo trip, so in the over researching and analyzing phase.  The food at Bandon has always been solid, nothing crazy, but has anyone gone recently and had a dish that blew them away?

Dont think I’ve ever eaten dinner at Pac Grill, may need to give that a go this time around although not sure it’s the best solo spot.

Dining options are shrinking (Trails End is not serving dinner due to staffing shortages) and all the menus are getting slimmer.

That said, the grilled cheese at Pac Grill remains one of the best items on the whole property, IMO.  The elk burger at McKee's is pretty tasty, and the steelhead at Pac Grill was killer last time I was there.

Only issue with Pac Grill is you can get unlucky and have to share the place with a big crowd of people finishing their stay and trying to settle all their money games over several bottles of wine.  Place gets really loud...

They are working on the new restaurant next to OM - most of the framing was up when I was there in October, and they are targeting next summer for opening (if they can find the staff to run it).  Also, the new patio by the BD putting green is done and really nice.

I heard the forge will be moving there and an Italian place will be taking over the current forge/gallery/puffin whatever.

Had the steelhead at pacific saturday, it was good not great, slightly overcooked imo, grilled cheese was great.

Can still do private bookings for dinner at trails end so if you have a big group it could be worth it. We had thanksgiving there this year and was really good and had two meals there last year that were family style (beef tenderloin, rock fish, sautéed greens, ect)

Was just there a couple weeks ago and the seafood chowder at Pac Grill was unbelievably good.

Man I miss the old Trails End lunch/diner menu.  It was the most unique food on property, sad that it's essentially been grab & go for the last 2+ years.

Have to think the resort is close to peak size, purely based on the staffing issues.  Any more dining and lodging and they'll probably run into more issues that could sacrifice service.  That, or they have to overpay to recruit and retain folks to the area.

Guessing Mr. Kaiser's philosophy is, "If I build it the employees will come".

I thought I heard that the new building near OM clubhouse was going to be a brew pub...I really hope that's the case instead of moving the Forge and adding a fancy Italian restaurant.

Who said it would be "fancy".  Maybe it's just oven baked pizzas...

Nobody said.  Just thinking if it's in the current Forge location/previous Gallery restaurant, seems more likely to be upscale rather than pies by the slice.

I could also just be talking out my a**, just going off what my dad told me when we were there last week. I assume he was told by the lady that handles our group bookings as they were locking stuff down for 2023 and 2024.

Mike Keiser knows his market/audience.  Doubt he'll do anything too "fancy".  He knows that after a round(s) you just want to kick back and relax, and prep for the next day.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good dish of pasta.  I just know the last few times I've been, McKees has been slammed and the idea of a new brew pub with burgers and great pints is what I've been longing for.

Agreed, you can still get the lounge menu at The Puffin in addition to the forge menu but it is fairly limited, burger was pretty solid.
