Hard to believe they would just let it go easy.  Take it down, fortify it inside with some metal rods, etc.  They've built their entire branding and marketing around the course around that tree.  Get rid of the tree and you might as well throw away all the merchandise with that logo on it.

It's like the tree guarding #18 green at Pebble Beach.  Iconic.  It was diseased and they took it down about 2001 or 2002.  Brought in a new one, huge, over the fairways of about 3 holes, laying down sheets of plywood in front of the truck so the turf wouldn't be damaged.  Took about 3 days.  But that new tree was up shortly after the old tree came down.  And almost nobody realizes what happened.

After my last trip I said that they should scan it and 3D print a replacement for if it ever came down.

I know of few ‘iconic’ trees that have been cast and made into sculptures.

given ghost trees are also a feature of sheep ranch Ian sure they have along term preservation plan in place for keeping the dead trees around.

For you ship sticks veterans any of you ship  in your hard case? Ok to have them arrive a couple days early in Bandon? 🏌️‍♂️

Yes. Ship in any case you want and I usually try to have them arrive a few days early.  Include your arrival date on the shipping tag (there is a field for it when filling out in the website).  Bandon will store until you arrive and will have them waiting at guest services (by the main lodge) on the day of your arrival.  They have it down to a science.

Have shipped in my hard case 3 times now. This past trip I allowed for a little extra time to be safe and they were way ahead of schedule with my clubs being almost a week early. Early is always better than late.

But then what do you play with in the week before you leave home?

This is why I don't use ship sticks (also it is more expensive). Can't go on a trip to some of the best courses in the world and not practice the week before. I've also never had any issue with flying my clubs, but I know that is becoming more and more rare 😂 so we will see.

I've gotten screwed by the airlines and by Ship Sticks so it seems a lose-lose proposition 😂

For flying into North Bend it is really pretty risky to fly with your clubs, if the plane weight is off they won't load them. That's part of why Bandon recommends shipping your clubs.

I know this might be sacrilegious but its actually OK to rest for a couple days before a trip in which guys tend to play 36 a day over 4 or 5 or 6 days.

I paid for the 2 day shipping, shipped them out 3 days beforehand. And before people say how expensive it is, if you sign up for their emails, I feel like you get four or five email discounts a month, maybe more than that. I took advantage of one of their holiday sales months before my trip.

IMO I dont think I'd ever do another golf trip without ShipSticks.

just got a 20% off promo today from Ship Sticks so I’ll at least ship them there then probably fly home with them ( hopefully)

I think it depends on your travel logistics. Our boy's trip this year to Bend was direct from Seattle so we all flew with our clubs. Same with this year's trip to Pinehurst - direct to RDU so we'll fly them. The second there's a layover involved we use Ship Sticks.

I've always flown with my clubs but they didn't make the plane on my last trip down to Bandon in Dec - but the advantage of flying Alaska from Seattle is that I just waited around for the next flight.  Slightly annoyed not to get to Bandon during daylight but otherwise a minor inconvenience.  If I was traveling from further away or was definitely trying to make an afternoon round, I'd be more inclined to use ShipSticks.

Geez it’s blowing out there today. How far in advance of a trip do I look at weather forecasts only to ignore them lol ? 😁

I usually start looking about 2 months in advance but ignore everything until a week out.

Wunderground has been very accurate for me.
