Well i'm all the way up in Illinois and I haven't been picked in 8 years so maybe you could let the selection people know about me. Thanks!

Now you sound like a Cleveland sports fan lol...

Serious question though if you put in for max tickets every day and you get picked for one of the days do you have to purchase the max tickets for that day or can you just purchase one or two for the day you're chosen?

I’ve gotten plenty of the rejection emails in past years. I’ve been fortunate enough to through friends that Marshall annually. I think the lottery works or at least I tell myself it helps keep the cost down on the tickets. I’m amazed that face value remains decent and it’s the least expensive food and beer of any tournament I’ve been to.

Lottery system would work better if they wouldn't allow tickets to be resold. Or only allow resale through masters.com at face value. Would clear out a lot of people who apply for the lottery just to make a quick buck and give people who actually want to attend the opportunity to do so.

I agree changes need to be made to reduce secondary reselling. Maybe printing the name of the winning person for the lotto on the tickets and only allowing entrance with that person? Seems reasonable.

I will be honest though. If I win the lotto, there is a chance I will sell mine. How can you not consider it?

Agreed. I always thought ticket scalping was illegal in most jurisdictions? Make it illegal to sell a ticket above face value and it would also curtail the problem. Seems like the govt turns a blind eye to on-line scalping because they can collect taxes. Is there anyone in the know on this topic that can shed light on this?

It is obviously not illegal, or it is unenforceable, meaning it is therefore not illegal. Nothing you can do about it. Season ticket holders to sporting events do this all the time. It is a good way to pay for your seats, go to a few games and make a little back at the same time. I do not see anything wrong with it. Supply and demand, it is simple economics. Augusta could just raise the ticket prices to the amount that people are paying for them on the secondary market and keep the money themselves if they wanted. I still think they would sell.

Many states have laws against scalping, reselling above face value and/or limits above face value. So I'd like to hear from someone with expertise in the field that can explain how ticket brokers are getting away with charging prices that are charging exponentially above face. These dirt bags have made it miserable buying concert tickets and add no value.

As for Augusta raising prices to match the secondary market that certainly is an option. But given how tightly Augusta regulates the lottery and isn't into ripping off Patrons (cheap food, drink etc) I doubt that's an unlikely option.

That doesn't work. Most residents in the Augusta area share their tickets with family or friends. My friends share their 2 tickets with up to 8 people during the course of the week.

My point is that if a law is not enforced, it is not really a law.

I don't think it's a crazy law, just inconsistently enforced and in need of updating to account for technology.

I've done a little research since asking this question.

This one is about proximity to the venue.

https://www.ticketnews.com/2018/03/omaha-police-arrest-four-scalpers/

Then of course Ticketmaster like pigs at a trough all the while claiming publicly to me righting against scalping

https://www.engadget.com/2018/09/19/ticketmaster-caught-enlisting-pro-scalpers/

As for saying this is a simple case of economics and supply and demand, that is mischaracterization since the supply is being artificially manipulated, often via illegal means.

I am not saying it is crazy. I was simply trying to illustrate that there are a lot of laws sane or otherwise that just go unenforced.

Residents should be given the choice of what days they wish to go and get tickets with their names on for those days only - whatever days they don't choose those tickets go back in the hat.

Bingo. Exactly. Not nearly as many would enter the lottery of that were the practice. And then I might get to go. I know of a couple guys here who’ve been picked more than once. And each time sold their tickets here. Irritates me to no end that the site helps them flip the tickets.
