2019 U.S. Women's Open May 30 - Jun 2

What an excellent tournament. For starters, the young American players seem to be quite motivated. Gee, wonder why? You have a top player from the JLPGA making clutch par putts to keep the lead. You have two amateurs in the mix, including one that tied the record for lowest opening round by an amateur. We've got the top rookie in the hunt. Azahara, the current pick for comeback player of the year, is in the mix. Inbee hanging in there looking to grab another major.

The course is playing tough, but fair. 'Plenty of birdies out there, but more so the bogies and doubles. The rough is really taking the spin off the ball, forcing players to pick their landing spots carefully. At first I was thinking that the course is definitely set up for the long hitters, but then you see Mamiko, Inbee, and Azahara hanging in there with their clutch putting. I don't really see the cut going to +4, so a number of players still have their work cut out for them in their few remaining holes to either pick up a shot or two to make the cut (e.g. Danielle), or hang in there to avoid missing it (e.g. Maria).

'Still plenty of golf left. I think any player at +1 or better still has a shot if they can get a pair of 67's over the weekend.

One bogey in two rounds is mighty impressive. She's playing very smart. 30/36 greens set up by 27/28 fairways.

The tough but fair is so much better than the weekly shootouts (on both tours). Maybe it's just that we don't see it a lot and would love the birdiefests if they were the exception.

But I think it's great when nearly all holes can be birdied with perfect shots, bogeys are easily made with a semi loose shot, and doubles happen if you are not careful. I also think it keeps more people in it over the weekend vs the typical tournament where you'd need to shoot back to back course records if you are behind any more than a couple/few shots (it's a lot different when the leaders can easily drop 3 shots).

Yuka will be better tomorrow, her game is suited for this course, unlike the AP Women's Amateur where she was literally all over the place...

I was disappointed at Yuka's 77 today to miss the cut but happy that Dottie made it with a 70 today for a 2-day total of 141(-1)..

I was actually expecting Yuka to do better than Dottie but that's golf..

am hoping for a good last 2 days for Dottie now..

Didn't read the whole thread, but yes Haney is an idiot. Guy tries to torpedo the women's open before it even started. Just another old man with some serious flaws in his thinking, he does not respect women or women golfers. See ya hank ya dinosaur, who needs you?!

I am just watching the second round of FOX coverage. Who are these people? They were laughing when Minjee Lee made a mess of the 11th. They take every opportunity to be negative, i.e. Green's missed cuts, Lexi's missed putts, etc ad nauseam. I'd like to see these "experts" play directly for their own money against these pros. And Julie LInskter, she never misses an opportunity to point out the faults either. Julie is the worst, she's no Judy Rankin that's for sure. FOX is doing a disservice to women's golf they are incompetent and they have no clue how to present a marquee event. And the USGA sold out for letting the FOX amateurs broadcast their biggest events. But it's all about the money isn't isn't it Mike Davis?

Anything else not suit you? Maybe the venue? The course as a whole? The rough? The greens? Or was everything after your initial rant just camouflage for a topic that was first moved and then removed and then locked? Did you miss out before the lock but couldn't resist?

Fit golfer. The one with the lowest score. That gal usually has a strong stomach. Thick.

I don’t know if it’s me but I feel Fox’s broadcast of the event is terrible. They had their “Feature” group today with the 2 previous US Open winners and former # 1’s and Lexi. It seems they were all over the place just showing shots here and there. They would show Lexi the most but hardly ever showed Park off the tee. Even when she made a birdie they didn’t show one shot of the par 5 she made it on but showed Lexi making a par and every one of her shots. The Golf Channel and others at least tape missed shots and go back and show shots from the feature group once they have shown another player elsewhere make a birdie or good shot. In a couple of cases even the announcers didn’t even discuss what Arya or Park made on a hole. They are terrible. If it was the a PGA event (not even a major) they always show most of the feature groups shots at some point.

Park is my favorite player and I was watching for her. But I knew if Lexi was in the group the announcers would talk about her 95 percent of the time and the producers would show her over anything else the others do. if anybody like Lexi is doing half-way decent expect the coverage to be all about them.

Jessica Korda is at -5 with only 1 bogey in 36 holes..

Nelly is at -3 with 13 birdies in 33 holes..

when Nelly eliminates or minimizes her over par holes ..watch out !!

..and I wonder what their best-ball score is over 36 holes..

What do you expect from a producer that watches ladies golf once a year? They are showing American golfers to an American audience. I haven't seen Brooke Henderson hit a shot. I see lots of putts, and not a lot of shotmaking. And of course, the broadcast team is out of touch.

No one does ladies golf better than Judy Rankin and Terry Gannon.

Spent 9 holes yesterday watching Yuka Saso and Alexa Pano play, 1 group in front of the other. Both those girls, while missing cut, have ridiculous talent. Saso is maybe 10-15 yards longer than Pano who is 14 and about middle of the pack distance wise already. Watching her hit driver off deck going after par 5's impressive. Both have complete games, and will win out there, sooner than later.,

I was there Thursday and Friday. Not able to attend today due to prior commitment. Unsure if I’m making the 3.5 hr trip back to Charleston for the final round.

At first, I thought the course had a bit of a bland factor to it, but it’s flat land sitting right off the marsh. It’s pretty open with generous fairways. As far as the rough, it’s Bermuda and it’s thick. Due to the green complexes, hitting those greens from the rough is really difficult. The green complexes are designed extremely well. The 11th green (par 3) is so elevated that it is unviewable unless you have a pass for the grandstand (I did not). By the end of Friday, the course had converted me and I was a fan. It’s not flashy but it has teeth.

Followed Nelly/Brooke/DK and Jessica/Aza/Jaye Marie Green for pretty much their entire rounds on both days. Would periodically jump over and see some others, but only for a few moments. Jess/Aza/Green all played really well, although Aza got off to a rough start Friday. JM Green played really good. Didn’t see her in trouble either day and if her putter warms up even a little bit, better look out. She was burning the edge both days.

I didn’t take a lot of pics. Even though others are, I still feel like a bit of a perv trying to get close ups of these young ladies. If I can figure out host to post them, I’ll put up a few.
