Mizuno MP-20 - July 2019

I have 2 rounds under my MP-20's SELs now. Really liking them, I don't feel like they are punishing at all. Compared to my old Miura blades, these feel softer and are 100% better on thin contact, which was exactly what I needed. Pleasantly surprised by the nice feel on the HMB, too. Didn't think it could kick out my P790 but I think it might.

Agreed they have more punch to them.

I hit a bunch of balls with my 7 iron yesterday at the range having not played a lot (snowy as hell) and am so surprised by how much "help" (for lack of a better word) these offer. I gamed my previous set of them for two rounds and once at the range but didn't get on with the shafts that well. My favourite iron in the set was actually the 5i. I feel like I'm missing something but I don't think I've given anything up in the forgiveness category vs 785?

I have got on with the MB, but I just can’t see eye to eye with the MMC or HMB. I would love to game a combo set 7-P but not sure what to try with the MB’s. All things being equal the MB’s just feel better, launch significantly higher, and spin better than the other options.

Paired with Modus 120 the combo is just stupid pure.

Unless I can find something to pair them with I will likely stick with my iBlades and possibly go the Blueprint route in 8-PW.

Why not MP-20 MB all the way through? If you're playing a full set of iBlades now, would the 20s be that much more challenging? Since you play Titleist at the top of the bag, a gapper club that I recommend is the Titleist U-500, which at 23 degrees would sit nicely between your 5 iron and your hybrid.

I'm considering either the MB or MMC but am fairly certain that the top line of my lehman box toes are thinner. As to the MMC, not even sure if I should expect any better feeling. TBH, I'm not even sure I should bother upgrading as I can't even explain what I'd be gaining except a new shiny set. Just started played again and my bag is over a decade old.

First round today with my new Mizzies. In fact, first time I'd hit them since they arrived yesterday. Had wanted to take them to the range last night but it was a nasty, wet day in LA and I just wasn't into it.

But gotta say man; that whole "Mizuno feel" bit is as true now as it was back in the day when I had the MP-14s and exactly why I was seduced by them in the store. I mean, just fucking amazing. Had one 8 iron that was, like, everything - I didn't even feel the ball, man.

All the lofts are stronger than my Vapors and the tiny touch of offset on the 7 down to the 4 threw me off a little bit - getting a bit more draw than I expected. Which I'm not complaining about at all - I totally loved the flight, I just wasn't lining up with it in mind, so that's just going to be a matter of getting more familiar. Though I MIGHT swap out the MMC 7 for a MB 7. Gonna give it a few more goes. (But fuck me, then I'll be like ... eh, well ... the 6, maybe go MB ... oh, no, yeah, probably 5 too ... shit, ok ... 4 too ... NO IDIOT, you went CB for a reason)

No clue yet my actual distances with the stronger lofts. Blew a 7 about 15 yards past where I thought it'd go. Another I thought hitting an 8 where I used to hit a 9 was right but it wasn't. Then a 6 went exactly where I expected.

Just need to get down to the range and work that out.

I was generally a bit rusty today as I hadn't touched a club in two weeks but I was hitting them far better than I expected ... as I went into this round expecting garbage thanks to my laziness over the last two weeks.

Oh yeah, the feel - legit.

  • 2 weeks later...

Last year, around this same time, I ordered some MP-18 SC irons and they were back in the store in a week. But I think the buzz and demand for his year's line is so high that they are swamped. Mizuno is killing it right now with the MP-20s, so they are probably victims of their own success at the moment.

Finally pulled the trigger myself. 3-PW with Ctaper130. Ordered on Tuesday, will update when they are shipped out.

Ditched my IBlades with x100 for these and picked up 10-15 yards due to spin numbers with tighter dispersion. These clubs are just too much fun to hit, and you can’t beat the no upcharge for most grip/shafts.

I finally had a chance to hit the demo 7i in the MP-20 MB's to compare them to my Cobra King Forged MB's... I was actually surprised to see that the MP-20's sole is actually wider than my Cobra MB's..feel on both were good, tiny edge to MP-20's maybe feeling a touch softer. Not sure I would be gaining much moving to the MP-20's as the loft specs are the same between them and my Cobra MB's.. I would add that I think they MP-20's are a little more forgiving.. albeit not measurably much. I snapped a few photo's for size comparisons..

Yea not soft at all. My srixon z945 were prob th softest out of the 3 which to me isn’t good because I almost couldn’t feel the misfits. The mp18 are perfect in every way soft AND solid feeling hard to describe. Good forgiveness and love the clean lines and shape of the PW which was always an issue with mizuno. That being said those cobras were very close to perfect in shape but man you mishit it you do not get any help!!

can someone please help me out, I am currently looking for input on a mixed set of Mizuno MP 20 irons, I current have an hmb 2 and 4 iron, 5 and 6 mmc irons

2 iron hmb 17 degrees

4 iron hmb 22 degrees

5 iron mmc 26 degrees

6 iron mmc 30 degrees

now I’ve considered going both ways with this and just going mmc the rest of the bag or putting the mb in 7/8/9/PW. I would like to go with the MB. Can anyone comment on the two, I’ve heard the feel of the mb and mmc is different, also since I’ve bent the 5/6 mmc weak I’ve added bounce. Do I need to

be concerned that my 5 and 6 irons would have more bounce than the 7-PW. Thanks for the input!!
