DeChambeau Up 25 Lbs

The calorie count in his diet that was listed by bscinstnct is ambiguous, at best. I could see a legitimate swing of around 1,000 calories based on how loose it seems ("two or three" shakes, no serving description for the dinner, etc). I know the Orgain are pre-packaged shakes, but when I was lifting I could turn up the wick on my shakes with ease... who needs to add water when 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, a dash of whole milk into a BlendTec blender were available substitutes? :)

Ol' boy is packing it on, I hope he has a game plan for maybe burning it off during the hot summer rounds.

A bag of left-handed junk.

For as science'y as he likes to think he is. His diet description is severely lacking. I am no where near his intelligence level and I know the macros, calories, etc of my entire day on a given day.

It’s amazing how many people don’t know their maintenance calories or their caloric intake.

And I agree you would think that would be something he knows.

He just looks (to me at least) is he could shred down like 25lbs and get to a strong 220 really fast with just modifying the diet. But I also get that you work out to live your life still. I work out and drink a lot of beers to keep the status quo, lol.

Based on his diet and what he said he is eating. It appears to me that he is after high protein, which is much to high and calories. Drinking 8 protein shakes in a day is simply easy calories. He is not doing anything scientific here. If he is just spitting out nonsense and has some super secret diet going on I dont know. I am strictly taking it at face value. He just eating a crappy fast high protein diet.

He'd be doing a lot more for himself by cutting down on the protein shakes and adding some more chicken, lean red meat, or other natural forms of protein. Shakes can be great for supplemental protein between meals or after a workout, but it is much more effective when it comes from natural sources. And 7-8 a day definitely explains the substantial fat gain he's experienced as well.

I think it's all a cover and he turned into a raging alcoholic over the COVID break. Drinking a case of Hoegaarden every night while crying on your TI-82 and your hygrometer while prepping for Rocket Mortgage catches up.

Here’s a scientist for the “mad scientist” to consult with...

“Being just 10 pounds overweight increases the force on your knees by 30 to 40 pounds with every step you take,” says Kevin Fontaine, PhD, assistant professor of rheumatology at Johns Hopkins University.”

https://www.webmd.com/arthritis/features/weight-joint-pain

So, each pound overweight is compounded 3-4x and that’s just in walking. Imagine how the extra weight compounds in the force exerted on the left knee in a golf swing. A 125mph golf swing at that.

Ha! You know the difference. I love squats, although I was doing front squats before the lockdown. In fact squatting, something BD says he does not do, strengthens the legs and takes pressure off the joint. Plus, I believe the “weighted resistance is good for the actual joint.

Plus squatting done properly is linear.

Im, as was that doctor, am talking about adding fat that then hits the joint from all kinds of angles, laterally impacting, and messes up the joint. You deny that being overweight is bad for the joints?

Golf swing especially at pro level is hard on the hips and knees.

You see guys like CC Sabathia, recurring knee injuries and arthritis.

Anyway, safe to say, adding 30 pounds of fat ain’t good for your knees.

HRT or not, that’s a ton of work on the gym and diet. You can take all the HRT you want and you won’t look like that without a ton of gym time and a great diet. In fact, guys younger than him could take gear and lift and still not get those delts and bis. Guy is clearly a specimen. Man, he was great but imagine if he was into this when he played?!

People also don’t realize how much weight they have to lose to look cut or lean. Nearly always it ends up being double what they thought. Plenty of guys who were lifting and got up to 220 thinking they could just cut 20 pounds and look ripped. Ends usually being like 40+.

In Bryson’s case for him to look lean like Rory was body fat wise, your talking for him losing at least 60 pounds on a cut from his 240. He would look pretty good then.

I resemble the BD look too, unfortunately I guess. I am right around 240 @6' tall. Definitely could lose some weight and look better but when you have big legs and broad shoulders you can carry that weight and not look gross thank goodness.

I did KETO for a while and got down to 215. Very similar to what BD is eating minus the toast and protein shakes. Salads and high fat foods, but mostly good for you high fat foods. Still at a calorie deficit though. I lost muscle through that though as I limited protein to an extent too. You could tell I had lost weight in my face and neck, which points to the fact you carry weight in places you just don't think about.

When I graduated HS I was 5'11" 165. First year of college I gained the freshman 35. I went from wearing a 32" 15.5" dress shirt to a 34" 17". I just got broad and my shoulders filled out. I also started working at a furniture store delivering furniture. Hucking around sofas and chest-of-drawers in the heat will build your upper body too. I am a 35" 17.5" now, 36" waist. Not an ogre but not slim and trim.

Ya, getting to teens is very manageable, especially if you take it slow. But once you get to 15%, that’s when it gets tough. That last fat just don’t want to go. You gotta keep strength training to keep muscle, do cardio, and really dial in the diet. Im eating 15 M&Ms as my after dinner treat, lol.

But BD doesn’t have to get lean. The genius of his plan is he gained so much that he can just get down to 215 and looked totally peeled! ; )
