Well...  I guess the glitches from the "live event" caused a lot of the content to be lost.  There are lots of gaps in the replay where Henri is in the midst of answering one question and the video skips to him answering another questions.  Betting the FlightScope guys are PISSSSSSED at their conferencing vendor.

The flightscope software is nice.  It will display any metrics that the unit can track along with showing ball flight.  There is also an FS Skills that has games and such.  The 5 free courses are on e6 for iOS.  The graphics for e6 on iOS are not good compared to PC offerings like e6 PC and TGC, but they are passable. 

 

I use flightscope app for practice sessions and then TGC 19 for simulation.

This is worth a listen. Henri and Flightscope come off very well. No BS, honest answers. Sounding almost too good to be true for the price. It will be at the very top of consumer grade LM's for sure.

Indeed. The presentation took a while to get going, but they are really trying to do right by their users, even indicating that they are trying to figure out what they'll do for a discount to existing owners.

 

Although Henri answered in the negative, I imagine they'll eventually come up with a solution that can unlicense a hardware unit if the owner wants to transfer the license to a new unit.

Hey, If I may ask what issues you found?  If I may state my positive and negatives.

 

 

I have a small area 16ft long, with vaulted high ceilings.   This means I have 8ft to the screen from hitting and 8ft from the ball to the unit, the basic, minimal Indoor distance it needs, My hitting net is only 6ft wide by 9ft tall, its a small hitting window .  The area is the old living room with a couch and a treadmill along with a TV mounted above the treadmill. Other than that, no major interferences.

 

is the unit perfect?  I cant say its perfect,  Is it suitable for practice and simulation. Absolutely here are my thoughts.

 

1) Accuracy (Radar)- I have had 3 PLM in my lifetime, SC100, ES14 and now the Mevo Plus,   What I have found for ALL Radar units is the ball speeds are spot on,  I would say all within 2+/- mph of each other, I have setup all 3 at one time to see.

 

2) The issue is the other data.  SC100 is ball speed and swing speed with calculated distance (total and carry) VERY Very sketchy,  but again ball speeds are spot on.

2a) ES14, gives much more data,  Smash, launch, calculated spin, carry and total.   The data is more accurate relative to the SC100 as there is more calculations and measurements, so distances are much more realistic. Especially in regards to missed shots. The drawback is there is no horizontal dispersion, (left and right)  Just launch, spin and carry/total  the spin is the hardest as likely total spin so the dispersion is unknown.

2b) Mevo Plus,  gives the horizontal dispersion with calculated/measured total spin and side spin.  Given a dispersion/shot shape in addition to the carry/total.

 

3) I kept evolving in radar purchase to reach this somewhat final destination of dispersion.   At this point I accept my swing, I just want to get it as consistent as I can through practice.  The NEW Mevo plus Pro info, is icing on the cake as really even with the additional data for me personally, unless I plan to go through a major swing change.....the current data is telling me basically what know based on the ball flight. 

 

4) Issues and work arounds.  Its finicky I get it,  environmental conditions etc.  But this is a known factor it should not be surprising.  That is also why Skytrack (Camera based) Is the budget contender to the unit.   When I purchased I accepted the difference.  So that is why I am a little concerned about your outdoor issues?

4a) Indoor issues.  Flat surface as it lacks the X3 self leveling. I found that my accuracy suffered when I put the Unit directly on the existing carpet,  But my hitting mat is on a 3/4" plyboard plus the 1/2" mat so 1-1/4" higher than the unit.  Once I put the unit on a 1" riser, closer to the same level height as the hitting position the accuracy started to get better. Next is direction, you need to align the mevo using the FS app, I also have a marking point on the screen (frame) as well as an alignment rod on the ground in front of my hitting mat to try to keep the alignment as consistent as possible.  If the alignment is off the shots will be off. That is the same for Trackman & GCQuad which are Xtimes more expensive right.

4b) 8ft is NOT the best position,  you kinda have move it around 7-9ft. Its in a 2ft sweet spot,  my exact distance is  7' 4" right now much less than the 8'ft requirement and I have zero issues measuring.  The distance to the screen from ball is solid 8ft but my strike area (strip is 24"long so I could put the ball well up (driver) so its only getting 7ft of flight yet it still reads solid.

 

5) Spin... spin... UGH spin,  Ok so I had the ES14 and I was super happy about having any spin numbers (no metallic dot). I was impressed while calculated, it was still accurate enough to work out shots,  The MEVO is supposedly MORE accurate due to having a spin axis.  Factors?  Ball type and Metallic dot.  I didnt use the dot and the spin is a crap shoot. I now use the dot ALL the time on my gamer ball and its much more consistent.  does it miss a little yes but the ball speed is still the same. 

 

5a) Now here is an interesting one, it say do not use the metallic dot for Simulation.  But the biggest issue I have with simulation and spin is chipping IT sucks......But once I used the Metallic dot the chipping was MUCH more accurate and I mean MUCH more, night and day.  So now I surely use a metallic dot for E6 period on the driving range, on the chipping range and on the simulate course.   FS app says use it anyways so the data is the same. 

5b) Driver, SPIN Sucks, this is a known issue and hope to be worked out with both FUSION and any updates. Driver spin sucks period.

5c) Use a new sleeve of balls with your metallic dots.  Dont use old balls give it the best chance to read it.  I know some people used recycled balls or whatever, but really.... use new actual gamer balls to get a better chance at spin accuracy.

 

 

 

 

 

So is it perfect, nope, was it worth the $2000 + Fathers day discount $1800. ABSOLUTELY.  Is there better options? POSSIBLY based on your environmental conditioned that you really need to  understand to make the $1000+ leap.

For me what I think is the unrealistic expectation. (OPINION)

 

I came from an SC100 5 years ago, which I got on ebay for $120 which was a freaking deal as was helpful to understand ball speeds. I had a lot of fun with the UNIT at the range and learned alot.

 

I then wanted more during COVID, and got a deal on the ES14 for $300 and used it during the whole lockdown phase.  The app, the ability to use indoor, hooking the app up to my phone, to Apple TV and projecting it on my TV above the treadmill, JUST AWESOME.  With that, building confidence to hit indoor in my house without blowing holes in the drywall and breaking stuff.... priceless.

 

I finally came across funds to make a huge investment.  $1800.   Now the MEVO, I can chip with visual results of dispersion, (Biggest benefit)  then the practice range to just hit balls. Finally simulation but it sucks I live at sea level and 4 of 5 course are elevated so hitting distance is a learning curve for me. But I still get the "simulated" practice as well.

 

 

The Mevo+ is not a Trackman, it is not a GCQuad, It is not an X3, its not a GC2 with HMT..... but its a $2000 unit well below the professional grade units, for personal launch monitor categories.  It provides adequate date. They are evolving it and updating it to compete at its price point.  If your expectations are REALLY that high, then drop the coin for a GCQuad or try to find a GC2 with HMT or heck get the X3.

 

But I just think some peoples expectation is very high,  Play around with an Swing Caddie model or even a PRGR, then you might appreciate what the Mevo+ really provides?

My Mevo + arrived today. Had it up and running in less than 10 minutes. Hit some shots into a net in my garage with a brand new ball and metallic dot. Data seems reasonable. Weird hitting shots in there. No new ground for me to cover on the unit until the Fusion Tracking / Pro Package / RCT balls are available but will share periodically how I am getting on with it.

Depends on what you want to work on and the level of spin accuracy you want. Ironically the pro package will not help with improving spin readings indoors. That is contingent on the new Titleist RCT ball. If you are working on swing changes the pro package has more to offer than even the GC3. As of right now, for better spin and carry accuracy got to go GC3 or Launch Pro.

He was a bit vague about the difference between Mevo+ and X3, maybe he knows something we don't 😉 

 

It comes down to usage scenario to me, an X3 will be crunching numbers for a pro in a studio/range all day and demands reliability and power to return responses, where as for golf nerds like us the Mevo+ is served with its battery unit for a limited period for our fix up.

The pro package offers new data points like club path , face to path, etc. It has nothing to do with getting better spin readings indoors - or out. Fusion tracking will help with some accuracy issues but they will be relatively small and it will not help reading spin. Spin is read by the radar only - the camera doesn’t help read the spin. Helps refine other data parameters, launch angles, AoA, etc but not spin. The only thing coming that I am aware of that could improve spin readings - if someone is struggling w estimated spin numbers due to lack of flight time - is the RCT balll. 
 

If you only have 8 feet of flight even the X3 could struggle w spin. Not sure how much the size of the radar helps there, it simply needs more time or a stronger return signal.

So after a lot of equivocation between BLP & Mevo+, I pulled the trigger on the FlightScope.  My use case - entirely outdoors - and frankly the fact that I was tired of all of the jerking around with the pre-launch stuff (1 minute to get an order in!?) made the decision for me.  Obviously we'll all have to wait & see if the Pro Package lives up to its promise.  

 

But I have to say my one remaining hesitation about the Mevo+ is battery life - esp. in that I'm using it 100% outdoors.  1.5-2h seems insanely short.  It is a shame that they didn't build it with a 25% larger case and put a big honkin' battery in that would last all day or even multiple days!  I guess I'll use an external rechargeable battery with it?  Any better ideas?

YEa, so I read somewhere if you join the GSPro DISCORD server group, you can find information on what users are up to.  There was talk of a workaround of getting GSPro onto the skytrak, but they are still tinkering with that.

 

Apparently, in the first Instagram Live chat earlier this week, I believe the Flightscope founder or sales director hinted at integrating GSpro with Mevo plus in the future.  But he was very vague and didnt give any details.  Maybe you can find answers on the GSpro discord group.

Easy fix as you mentioned,  Buy/use an external battery pack, I have them stored together with my  Mevo+. JUST USE THE SUPPLIED CABLE, its proprietary.  I have a cheap 20$ 10,000mah pack,  I keep it plugged in the unit even indoors.

 

It extends the life of the battery as well as keeps the unit out of the annoying power saving mode.

are other people having trouble capturing videos with the mevo+ camera?  When I set it to capture video, I have options for the iphone rear, front and radar cameras.  When I choose the radar camera I see the image from the radar but it doesn't seem to capture/record?  Anything special that needs to be done???

I just connect a Romoss power bank that I got from Amazon while I play sim and it keeps the Mevo+ charged at 100% until the power bank drops to 0%. My power bank outputs 5v at 1.8 amps when connected to the Mevo+. So yeah, any power bank that can output 5v 2A should do fine. 

 

Btw, Mevo+ has a Nitecore NL1835 3500mAh 18650 battery inside, and it lasts about 1.5 hours. 

 

So if you connect a 20000mAh power brick, we can extrapolate that it should extend the battery life by approx 5x longer.

my 10,000mah pack to be 100% honest, I dont know LOL I have never been able to drain it.  I would say I have done 2 hours with practice and heavy simulator play, with it plugged in the 2.1A plug and I would say the indicator was still at 3ish bars (4bars total).  I think it burned 30-40% of the pack,  so I would say a solid 4 hours on the 10,000mah pack and then another 1.5 hours with the Mevo+ by itself?

 

So maybe 5 solid hours.  TOTAL guess, could be more.

Got my Mevo+ on Friday. I only have a net & mat setup with 8 feet either way at the moment. I have the room to extend out to indoor mode if I want. I am going to start building a frame for a screen & when installed I will test different ball to screen lenghts to see where I am happy. Obviously the further back I go the better but that will require more ceiling protection, so I will finalise my dimensions in the future. 

I am very happy at the moment with everything. I haven't had one misread. About 3/4  of my spin numbers (160 ball speed) with driver are in italics but hopefully with more flight & the RCT balls better things are to come. Spin axis seems quite reasonable to me. Carry numbers with irons maybe a little far sometimes but not bad. As a 5 handicap player who has used trackman enough in the past I have a good grasp of my numbers & I'm pretty impressed with the Mevo+. Looking forward to getting my sim enclosure up & running.

 

Couple of questions;  

1. Is it ok to use the mevo+ when it is plugged in to the charger? I got my Mevo+ from MIA in the Uk & they sent me a spare charger with a 1.5m lead so I take it that is OK to plug in whilst using the Mevo+

 

2.How do you know what firmware you are using? Is it where it says DSP version in the  FS app?
