Is it possible for NBC to play MORE commercials?

It's just a matter of time before NBC figures out instead of the "play through" feature they can ad banner ads throughout the entire broadcast.

Then next will be 2 commercials, then 3, at once.

Rights fees to the Tour going up + ratings going down = more commercials.

Two reasons the ratings are going down:

The decline of Tiger

Too many commercials

I am more likely to watch a broadcast when Tiger is not entered.

 

When he is there, networks pander to covering him way too much, even if he is finishing DFL. It makes the broadcast unwatchable. If he is in contention, it becomes even worse, as if he is the only person playing. It shows a tremendous lack of respect to the others on the leaderboard.

This is why I got rid of PGA Tour Live and The Golf Channel. I'm not going to pay to watch commercials.

The NBC coverage has been better than the CBS coverage for a while now, and that has gotten worse since the changes CBS made for 2020.

The Peter Kostis interview on No Laying Up provided some interesting insight. I was surprised [yet not surprised] at his statement that the Tour does not care about the quality of the telecast. Based on the current state of affairs, I would tend to agree with him.

“From the bottom of my heart I believe this, that no one in management of a network or at the leadership of the PGA Tour gives a rat’s ass about the quality of the telecast. They don’t care about the quality of the viewer experience. They don’t care about anything other than promotion. They’re interested in the marketing of the product.”

I watch from livetv.ru and cricfree.sc and pick the channels that don't have many ads. Super Sports is good (it's South African) and Sky Sports (from the UK) is pretty good, too. I used to prefer livetv.ru as the interface is less messy but cricree nowadays has a better choice of broadcasts. The choice of channel is also better at cricfree.

Just need to have the pop-up and ad blockers in good nick, and make sure the virus prevention is up to date. Need to be prepared to mock about a bit as well. Not all the streams work on all browsers and some streams require a VPN as (I would guess) the streams are only available from some geographic locations. Especially cricfree.sc takes a bit of getting used to for accessing the volume and other controls. Of course, sometimes the streams die just in the middle of a play-off or other critical moments so not having ads introduces other types of annoyances.

And why do you think TV shows Tiger so much? Because he brings eyeballs to the screen. Well, not yours of course. And when he’s not in the tournament many viewers don’t tune in. But then the networks do get you.

Yeah but then they scroll through the entire leaderboard for like three minutes at a time quite often.

I don't watch much live golf anymore, have to give it a head start of at least 90 minutes. Same with NFL. Too many commercials.

Yes, you CAN get more commercials than on NBC golf coverage: just watch an LPGA event. Sad, because I really like watching the ladies play.

I am in without issues--watching Ricky hack it up. Have had login quirks on other days though. It usually sorts itself out with a few login attempts, closing out of the app and going back in, etc.

Best coverage is Masters online with the multiple camera feeds etc. Wish every Tour stop provided the same option. I would pay for it.

All kidding aside I have basically given up watching golf. I watch the DVR version the next morning and skip all the nonsense..leaves me with about 40 minutes of actual viewing time.
