Is he not still a "free agent"? My guess is he prefers playing the JPX irons, but wants to have his choice on his other clubs.

At some point he probably just decided that he would rather just put whatever clubs he likes in his bag rather than take the money and be forced to use what they tell him to.

This. He wants to play the clubs he feels gives him the best chance to win (majors). Ultimately I think it would be beneficial for a lot of these guys to do the same thing.

I agree but at the same time, I think it’s great that certain companies are also building clubs for a particular player. The RF irons from Cobra for Rickie, TM and the P7TW’s, Rors version of the 730’s, DJ’s, even Honma with the Rose Protos. But it would be interesting to see what these players would put in the bag if money wasn’t involved

I understand what you are saying, but what they are playing really doesn't interest me in the slightest. My game is so far removed from what the tour guys are doing, we are barely playing the same game. Plus, outside of maybe the few exceptions you listed, the clubs they have in the bag are not the same ones I could even buy at GG or PGATSS even if they have the same name and graphics.

I would be somewhat interested from a spectator standpoint to see what they would play if they weren't getting paid. My guess is you would see some changes here and there, but probably not an overall rush to one manufacturer or product. As good as all of these guys are, they are still different and different clubs will work for each of them. There might be a slight improvement in their games, but they are already so good that they are able to work around any deficiencies in their equipment. If they can't, most of them will probably make a switch regardless of what their contract says. I'd love to know the reason why Rose left Honma, especially after such a short period of time.

Right, nobody should ever apply their own equipment choices based on what the pros are playing but like I said, it would be interesting to see which route they go.

I understand that the PGA Super Store in Austin was told today that they can not place any more JPX 919 custom orders with Mizuno. Hopefully we will hear and possibly see something soon about the new JPX lineup.

I look forward to this release. Currently playing MP-18 MMC irons and liked the JPX 919 lineup. 921 or whatever they are called will be on my radar.

I can't wait to see these. Going to get fitted for new irons towards the end of the season and the top of my short list has the 919 hot metal on it along with the G710. By the time I'm ready to get irons, I have a strong feeling that the 919 won't be available so these are going to be replacing them on the list barring something crazy unexpected with the new version.

I would like to see more independent equipment guys too. Back in the day, yep I said it, Mizuno was the #1 iron. Now Titleist seems to have a lot of non contract guys playing their Ap/620 irons.

Mizuno) are done already. They sold out a week or so ago. Some stores and online retailers obviously have stock left but no more custom orders.

Anybody have any news on when we will get a peak at the new JPX line?

I honestly don't understand what Mizuno is doing here where they have stopped taking orders for new clubs without even teasing a release or pre-order date for the new clubs. Seems like a recipe for missing out on a lot of potential sales as every single person who is getting fitted between now and whenever they announce, can't actually get any JPX clubs.

I don’t think they intended to be in this situation. They have zero inventory left, as their ops likely shut down with COVID with demand surging with the price drop. I ordered a dead stock m series putter from them and was told it would take 3 weeks to ship.

Technically the jpx 900 tours were designed for Brooks Keopka even though he didn’t know it at the time.

Mizuno has always been pretty successful at keeping their new products under wraps until they decide to release info and pics. Making us wait is not a bad strategy since Mizuno knows its loyalists will always be waiting with baited breath. Then once the products are revealed, we’ll be drooling over the pics and wringing our hands in anticipation until we place our pre-order.
