Depends on what you value in a driver. I am a +1 and former PGA professional (driver swing speed around 115). My gamer is the G400 LST. This is by far the most accurate driver I have ever played--very straight and forgiving on off center strikes. In fact, I recently purchased another 8.5 head to have as a backup if my current gamer craps out.

Here are my thoughts on other drivers I have tried:

Epic Flash Sub-Zero: Great for speed and lowering spin. If you are already a low-spin player; consider matching with a shaft that will keep your numbers in the 2100-2300 range. With a low spin shaft, my numbers dropped below 2000 which was sub-optimal. Because of the low spin and hotter face, I saw distance gains over my gamer, but I stayed with the PING for accuracy.

Taylormade M5: "Feels" hot, but when it came down to it, there was not enough difference from the G400 to warrant a change. Also not nearly as accurate. Also, I think the stock length is 45.75" which was too long for me.

Cobra F9: Good for speed and fairly forgiving. This would probably be the driver I played if I did not play the Ping.

Single hcp here and pretty good with the driver. I like the adjustable drivers and have had really good success with the M1-M3-M5 range. Really loved my 2016 M1 but would recommend the M3 or M5 (current driver), due to one reason ... Twist Face. It's the real deal. I skipped over the M3 but couldn't pass up the M5 - it was significantly better than my M1. If you like a smaller profile head the M3 comes in 430 or 440 cc too.

Never hit the Epic Flash but know guys who love it. Not a turbulators fan

I've literally put up my 2016 TI M2 against every Titleist, Callaway, TaylorMade driver and the Cobra F9 over the last five years. Even though old, ball speed is the same as anything else and launch and spin are ideal...for me anyway.

2016 Callaway GBB. I'm biased because I can't find one better, but also multiple pga pros still game it 4 years later. That's got to say something

Just switched from the Cobra F9 to the Ping G400 LST...both good drivers but I couldn't ever quite get the right feel with the Cobra which prompted the switch.

I was kind of in the same boat with both of my recent driver purchases, in terms of looking for something new to me from the last generation or two. I did plenty of research on shafts and testing numbers and demoed where I could find the clubs (GG, local shops, etc.), and then found on one of the many sites for used clubs (ebay, 2nd swing, cally preowned). It poses a bit of a risk since I wasn't really fitted properly but if you factor in a moderate resale value on a misfire, you can get about three tries before you approach the price of a brand new driver :)

I’m still playing a Cobra LTD.

Ive tried nearly everything since it came out Because I’m an addict like many people here, but I’ve never liked anything Better or hit anything better.

I think the biggest part of the battle is actually finding a shaft you love. There are a lot of perfectly good heads out there.

Just put a new shaft in my Ltd pro... it’s a monster... I might pick up a used head next season (looking at you mizuno st200g) if I can find one cheap, but I’m playing this one til the face cracks.

I own both the 2016 M2 and the 400 Max. Both are exceptional drivers for different reasons. The M2 is the longest driver I've hit and I compared it to all of the new stuff from last year (it's pretty forgiving too). However, the 400 Max is super forgiving and long (enough) for me to have it in the bag for most rounds. I will put the M2 in the bag if I'm playing a course with little or no trouble off the tee. Both great drivers but for different reasons.

I've owned a lot of drivers over the past 8 years and still have most of them kicking around.

2016 TI m2 is a monster if you want raw distance. Nothing has beat the ball speed this head produced for me.

Ping 400lst is the best combo of ballspeed and forgiveness. Very easy to keep in play, 2-3mph slower than 16m2.

The other head that stood out to me was the m3 440 head. I found it very easy to hit and produced great ball speed.

Ppppping. Long and straight. I have the 410+ now and love that you can set it up flatter than standard.

but as mentioned it’s the shaft that matters. So try out a few before you settle down.

second swing does a good thing here. You buy one hate it send it back within a month and try another . I’m lucky enough to have one close but the play guarantee should work through the mail just as well.

F9 when your swing is working, G400 when you need a little more help.

F9 if you need to lower spin, G400 if you need higher spin.

PS. The only looks that matter on a driver is what the the ball looks like flying down the fairway.

I gamed the g400 lst for over two years. In those two years I tried every new OEM release. Even went to club champion twice to see if anything can kick it out of the bag. For those two years literally no new driver could touch the number I was getting with the g400 lst. Only change was going from an ADDI 7x to a Tensei PO 60tx.

Recently I got fit into a Sim with an Accra TZ5 and the numbers were noticeably better with the sim. Surprised the heck out of me. Put the Accra into the g400 and numbers with the sim we’re still better.

For me, the best driver in the last 5 years is a toss up between the Sim and G400lst

G400 Max is very forgiving but I could never get used to the sound.

Mavrik this year has been fantastic. Went from Max to STD to SZ and now settling back into STD 9* +1 and it has been ideal with the Riptide 60 at 44.5”. D6 with a 14g weight but have 10g and 12g incoming to try with some PX HZRDUS Smoke Green Small Batch shafts or a Diamana D+ 70.

Sound and feel are so good and distance is a bit shorter than the SZ but quite a bit friendlier on mishits.

Now that all the popular driver heads have been named..... lol Find which one works best for you. The good thing is that there is a lot of quality drivers out there. Personally, I chose the Callaway Epic Flash last year. Doubt there would be significant gains from last year to this year. With the recent drop in price of the Epic Flash, definitely worth considering.
