Anybody working with Down Under Board?

Had no idea what this was. Just discovered Bradley Hughes a few days ago, and i'm so glad I did and so pissed it took me so long to find him. Just got back from a really good range session after watching a few of his videos where the feels in SF's ET all came to life for me. I am definitely going down this train. Down Under Board looks intriguing. Why not a cutting board?

I'm intrigued by this too and have been working on getting the same feel without the device. I actually found a plastic cafeteria tray on Amazon for a couple bucks, gonna try that to see if I can squeeze it with my insteps like the DUB is meant to be used. If that doesn't work I might try an office supply store to see what they have.

It's an interesting concept, but $65 for a $1 piece of plastic just seems obscene to me. It comes with access to one training video...eh, okay.

How did the cafeteria tray work, @me05501?

It is still on a slow boat toward me, it seems.

Wanted to try before I bought and I like it. Biggest issue for me has been my hips spinning too quickly and then arms being caught behind causing left wrist to break down and flip causing a chunked shot or a hook. Feel like this swing looks pretty good with the board will

I cut a piece of plywood similar to what you’ve got ... looking forward to trying it out tomorrow. How have your results been?

haven’t really been using it, but haven’t been practicing much. Feel like when I do use it I am hitting big hooks bc my body stops rotating while squeezing the board and I flip the face

I'm the one with the cafeteria tray idea. I've also used the lid from a plastic storage bin. Either will give you the same sensation. I think the storage bin lid works a little better because it's easier to squeeze.

Honestly I think you can simulate this feeling without a piece of plastic between your feet. That's what I've mostly been doing at the range, trying to feel tension on the inside of my legs that is similar to squeezing something laid between my feet.

I love the concept. I don't think you need an $80 device to feel it.

Interesting. When you hit these hooks, are they starting right of the target going left, or left on left?

I threw a 12x18 piece of plywood down and used it. Pretty cool. Really decent ball striking and no sway. Keeps you very centered and it seems to take a lot of excess motion out of the swing. Gonna have to check out this Brad Hughes guy.

wondering if this squeeze the board with your feet does the same thing as the squeeze the ball between your legs drill?

I have the board and have watched all the videos on the site and YT.

Can anyone take a crack at an explanation on how to feel what he wants you to?

Even with the board, I don’t think I’m doing it right.

Squeeze the board with your feet in transition.

Contacting Bradley for a quick lesson seems like a good idea.

Is it just in transition? I would have thought the backswing too to feel a more solid rotation into the right heel?

In the backswing it would probably limit hip rotation for some. I had really fast hips and when I took a lesson from Brad he told me to sqeeze the board on the downswing to get my arms to speed up.

This is a common problem - it's why Monte tends to work so much on speeding the arms up.

It's about sequencing really. If I were to make purposely make the arms go faster it would be a mess. Basically it slowed my hips a bit and the arms sped up on their own. Does that make sense?

Have you actually tested that theory? Monte suggests that if you speed your arms up then the body reacts, but from what you've said it seems that you're a hitter so it might work differently for that pattern.

I hit from my core. That's why I still use a steel shaft in my driver and 3 wood because the newer gear promotes a slappy release.

Yep, as I thought. Pivot driven.

You can see one of my sets from my avatar, so I'm completely down with the benefits of vintage gear.

I saw that. My driver is 360CC and both my driver and 3 wood are about 5 degrees flatter than today's standard.

I play a Titleist 983K which is my compromise. Dodgy health means that I can't swing a heavy steel shafted driver very fast anymore. I do play rounds with persimmon when I'm able to though.
