I switched to the zip cores a few months back.  They are great.  Love the shape and feel.  Previously player Mizuno Wedges until I could no longer find new MP-R wedges.  Then a few generations of the Callaways after Roger Cleveland came on board.

These remind me of the old days when Cleveland controlled the wedge market.  A really solid club.

I'll check out the zip cores. Can someone help me better understand how I go about deciding if I need a standard, low, or high bounce wedge and at what degree? I've never really customized any of that.

I have a slightly steeper angle of attack, but can adjust my swing to achieve certain shots. I play in a mix of hard and damp conditions in Iowa. My perfectly struck shot would take a nice divot way more often than not.

Thanks!

I was in the same boat having gamed Vokey 200 series wedges for 10+ years. I emailed Titleist asking for the current grinds for what I was gaming, ordered the SM8's, and couldn't be happier. There is something about the Vokey line that just fits my eye and they just perform for me

#1: Titleist TSi3 9* - Ventus Black 6X

#3: Titleist TSi3 15* - HZRDUS HC Yellow 75g 6.5

From what I have gathered:

High bounce for soft lies, low bounce for hard. I use a 56/12 for my off green rough shots and a 52/8 for my fairway saves and fringe bumps.

Have not tried either out of sand yet, so that will be fun. Guessing same rules apply.

<edit> low bounce for little/no divot, high bounce for scalp.

Honestly, going out and hitting them all would be the best option to see how each bounce works for you. It is a lot of personal preference for what works for your swing or type of shots. However, that's not always possible. This vokey bounce guide explains them pretty well.  https://www.vokey.com/explained/wedge-bounce

Give me your recommendations. My last set of wedges were Vokeys, purchased new in 2012 or 2013. I'd love to find some to demo if I can. My current set up is 50, 54, and 58 degree.

Sub70 wedges are great and you can return them within 60 days if you don’t like them... for three wedges, the price difference really adds up.

im playing a 286 54 and a jb low bounce 58... really like the combo... customer service is great... reach out to Jason and he’ll help you out! [email protected]

Actually after reading about the 3+ hour wedge fitting with Artisan it is now on my bucket list. That is a fitting I would be happy to pay for.

VokeySM6CoG.jpg.90de248fc11ae899ee528049fd8170a5.jpgIf you want to stay with Vokey try the SM6 or later models. SM6 introduced the progressive center of gravity, in which vertical CoG moves up as lofts increase. This is designed to lessen the chances of balloon shots on high-face hits.

The Hogan Edges worked it the other way: Higher CoG in the PW to get lower, spinning approaches, and Lower CoG in the SWs and Lowest in LWs to foster higher, softer greenside shots.

And, the new Edison Wedges (see GolfWRX Equipment area) offer a CoG that's more midface to lessen yardage loss on non-low face hits. Wishon Golf had featured a similar, somewhat higher CoG in a wedge model circa 2014.

Something for everyone!

New Zip Cores being released in MAYish.  May want to wait if you want to try Clevelands...  either the new may be good to try or the Zip cores value will come down.  A win win...

Quick question all - last couple years I've had a terrible time thinning my wedges within 50 or 60 yards or less. Wondering if some of that stems from have 12* of bounce. Could it be that a lower bounce would help? When I do strike my wedges okay, there's never a divot, but with my irons, always a divot. I'm also wondering if my desire to open the face up a little also hurts me because of the higher bounce.

I have always gone by the thought of standard bounce in the 50 and 54 and low bounce in the 58.  That way you have a 54 and a 58 with different bounces depending on the situation in which you find yourself.  To me, I don't notice a difference in bounce on full shots.  But I want different options in the chips, pitches and bunker shots. I could also see someone going Standard in the 50, low bounce in the 54 and Standard in the 58.

From what I have gathered a low bounce wedge is best for players who have less angle of attack and sweep vs divot.

My Nike 56 is a 14 bounce and I switched to the Lazrus 56/12 and have noticed my chips are less thin. That's why I ordered the 52/8 in hopes of a better full swing and hard lie option.

If the SM8's interests you at all, they have a fitting tool on their website that can point you in the right direction.  A big factor is on how you use each wedge and the types of courses you play (fairway conditions, bunker hard/soft, etc)

I have been benefiting from the same 2 - Vokey 52'/8' F and 58'/8' M SM6 wedges since 2017.  I have those moments where I say it's time to get new wedges, but haven't done anything about it.  Why?  I subscribe to the belief, if it works don't fix it.

A couple degrees of bounce isn't going to affect hitting thin half wedge shots, most people will barely notice the difference, sounds like a swing issue not a bounce issue.

This.  If you can find some 2.0, I'd say go with them and save a few bucks, but the Ping wedges are legit.  I moved to some 2.0 stealths from Vokeys and I am not looking back.

I have a lot of Pings and Vokeys.  I played a lot of everything it seems but I’ve come to prefer the look and feel of Vokeys around the greens and the grind options are cool.  I like to strip off the jet black and save a few bucks.  S grind seems to work best for me if I could only choose one.

Ping makes great wedges and I especially love them for full shots.  The previous es and eye2 sole wedges could be the best bunker wedge ever made.

If you want to save money and get top performance. Rtx4s I just bought the gray raw ones for $99 each 48(bent to 50) 54-58 all mid. Very nice club that comes with s400 shafts.
played yesterday and today and was executing all my shots and getting serious stopping power. Half shots/pitches are a real gem if your technique is on point. The v grind sole and the soles in general really work for my game.
the zipcores are nice too. I just didn’t want to spend the extra money on those and preferred the rtx4/s400 combo value.
