Srixon z785 vs Srixon Zx7

The ZX7 just feel more dense/solid to me that its predecessors resulting in a higher ball speed.  I am tempted to go 1* weak on the PW to 5i and leave the 4i where it is because the distance is a little more than I need.  I am not sure what they have done to the weighting but it just works for me.  I have a GC2 with HMT so will try and do a comparison when I can.

Has anyone tried combo-ing ZX5 in the 4, 5, or 6 iron with 785’s in the mid-short irons? Did you leave the lofts as they are, or adjust the ZX5 lofts?

Considering ordering a 4 and 5 iron in the ZX5 and keeping the 6-PW in 785’s, but not sure whether to keep lofts the same or adjust them weak/strong.

Not an exact comparison but i have 4 and 5 in zx5 and 6-pw in zx7. All of the zx7 are standard, the zx5 5 iron is 1 weak, and the zx5 4 iron is standard

Yeah, pretty close for sure. That’d be my other option…wait until the demand cools off after the season and pick up a combo set of ZX5/ZX7’s. Or I could order the ZX5’s in the 4 & 5-irons and test them out with my 785’s in 6-PW, and could always pick up ZX7’s in the 6-PW after the season.

How are you liking the ZX5’s and ZX7’s? Did you have Srixon irons before those?

I have 6-PW in the 785 and actually go straight to Zx utility 4 at 23. The 5 series lofts are 5 iron 24 and 4 iron 22. I found on testing they carried the same distance with extra roll out on 4 iron. This lets me keep in my U65 3 iron at 20 and my 3 hybrid at 19. Nice to have the 3 iron as I play in very windy conditions.

Interesting. How do you like the ZX utility? I started thinking about that option last night too…maybe 5-PW in 785 and a ZX or U85 4-iron.

Not to doom and gloom but im

in the industry and the cumulative thought is that demand will remain at current levels through next year.. sucks. That what they’re planning for anyway.

Just snagged a new set of 785s from Budget Golf (4-PW, AW) with Modus 120s (which are my preferred shaft and their last set with it installed). I tried the 785 against the ZX7 and went with the 785 for personal aesthetic preferences only. Both are great irons…was thrilled to score Budget’s final set with the 120s, though. Think they may still have a 3-PW x-stiff set for $800.00

Decided to pull the trigger and put an order in for ZX5 4 and 5-irons. Took a look at them in the local golf shop and compared them to the 785’s, and also looked at the ZX  and Z U85 utilities.

For the cost of ZX utility, by the time I get it customized to my specs it wouldn’t have been that much cheaper than ordering the ZX5 4 and 5-irons through Srixon.

So once they come in, I’ll combo them with my 785’s that I’m hitting really well right now in 6-PW. Just find the 4 and 5-iron pretty unforgiving, so should get better forgivenesses and distance in the ZX5 4 and 5-iron.

What lead-time were you given on the ZX5s? Did you end up going with stock lofts? I am thinking about doing the exact same thing and would love to hear your feedback once you get some rounds in.

I ordered them through Srixon Canada and they quoted 6-8 weeks on their website. Fingers crossed they come in by that time or sooner since it will start getting pretty chilly here in Toronto by October.

My last round last season was November 29th though, so I’d still squeeze in as many rounds as possible once they come in! 😎

Absolutely, I’ll let you guys know! Actually found a brand new ZX5 4-iron head, so will have it shafted by the weekend!

I’ll keep the order for the 5-iron in with Srixon and hope for a quick delivery, unless I can find a 5-iron head somewhere too.

Nice. Just put the 785s in the bag but I know I’m gonna struggle with that 4 iron!

Yeah, the 785’s are beauties and am loving them so far, but no doubt that the 4 and 5-iron are extremely difficult to hit.

Couldn’t love the 6-PW more though and am feeling more and more confident with my iron play with every practice session and round, so hopefully the ZX5 4 and 5-iron will make a killer combo with them!

Got bored and pulled out the backups to look. Quick pics sorry for the saturation but took them at 10pm, poor lighting.

Left to right in every pic is 745-785-zX7.

Soles of the 745 definitely look fattest.

Other than that, boy I love all 3. Each is a tiny bit different but I’d be happy with any as my gamers. The 785 looks the “hardest” to hit of all 3 looking at them.

Interesting to see these all side-by-side, very cool.

Really very slight aesthetic differences, and don’t really know what the major performance or build differences are. All beauties in their own right…like 3 hot sisters and you’d be happy scoring any of the 3! 😎

Maltby MPF ratings support your comment about the 785 being the hardest to hit, also check out how much more 'forgiving the ZX7 is; I play the 565's and the MPF for 6I is 497 so the ZX7 plays at about the same forgiveness - how about that?:

Interesting, good to know. So sounds like you’ll be looking for a new U45 then huh?

I ended up finding a new ZX5 4-iron head that I’ll get a Modus Tour 120 installed in, and ordering a ZX5 5-iron from Srixon…so we’ll see how it goes with those!
