Rory "not patriotic"??

Can't comment on Rory's life or his decisions, as I have never met the man. As for the whole Olympics thing, I personally don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling for it and most likely won't watch the golf portion.

I have traveled the world a lot and don't think that true. All the countries I have been to,the citizens have a strong patriotic views about their countries.

Rory seems really whiny, like he’s almost always about to complain about something. 
 

It doesn’t seem like he really enjoys playing Tour golf anymore, so maybe he should take a break.

The last year has made it abundantly clear that my fellow Americans in general hold a very narrow world view.  As a result, the hammering of Rory Mcllroy for not being patriotic, while not having any idea what it means to be from where he is from, is not at all surprising.

Agree 100%. I believe Rory belongs to the catholic minority of Northern Ireland and one of his extended family members has been murdered in the past during the violent clashes between protestants and catholics - which have been ongoing for more or less frequently for generations. In his junior years Rory has been competing in the same events and teams with Irish, which has just been the practicality of golf in that region. He probably deep down feels more connection to Ireland than UK, but due to political sensitivity, sad family history, and his current super star status, has decided to keep his mouth shut and take a neutral stance on the issue. The patriotic nature and flag waving of the Olympics is making it only worse for him. 

 

There is a saying that if you bow down to one direction, you will be showing your a## to the other, and this is exactly the case with Rory.

It’s your own view of Americans which is “narrow” and speaks to you possibly not having a broad interaction with Americans across geographies and demographics. 
 

The US has, by far, the most immigrants and this includes both those who emigrated here as well as multigenerational great great, great, grand, and sons and daughters of immigrants. 
 

This results is an enormous wealth of culture and direct influence of views from being part of international families and communities. 
 

If you gain more exposure, you may not generalize about Americans…in general ; )

we actually know Rory's swing speed, but on wrx everyone flies the driver 340 has a small factor of 1.59 and hits the lob wedge 144.
