iBlade - am I crazy?

I would have loved it if "Blade" was just in air quotes like that. 😆

I've never swung either the i3 or i3-blade model irons but my recollection is that the two were essentially the same in all factors except the blade was of slightly small head size. So , a unique opportunity to play rounds of golf with each and learn which head size performs better, but I don't know if any player actually did that process.

Iblade is by far the best iron I have ever played. I am a lower launch and high speed player which would typically fits into a “blade” profile for best results. But I personally do not love the look of irons with minimized top line + offset (albeit I still like a compact address look).

I have been playing these setup 1weak with an i210 3 iron and cannot ever see myself changing. I switched from 716MBs ~4 years ago and have since become a far better iron ball striker — that used to be my biggest area of concern!

All that being said, at the end of July with mumblings of a i59 release I went ahead and ordered another 4-pw set with my modus 130X shafts (identical to gamers) to keep as my next set.

TLDR... you’re not crazy!

Oh I don't think you even need to qualify that with "properly speaking". They are definitely not a true blade, but pretty clever to invoke that in the name for some player's vanity. 😄

You got me on that, but definetly irons for "good golfers" 😆

I’ve been wondering the same about the iBlade but wasn’t sure about the forgiveness

Ive fallen out with my P7MC and was all ready to go for the new T100 if I can find a stock set this week (I played my best ever golf with AP2)

However I can get a brand new set of iBlade in DGS300 for just over 1/2 the price of the T100

I was concerned that the iBlade would not be any more forgiving than my P7MC but the offset on i210 bugs me

if you want forgiving heel/toe strike, iblade should be fine and better than MC, if you are talking about missing high/low not much difference

i210 are in a different league, wider soles, more offset, very consistent irons but for a specific type of golfer, gamed 2 years the i200, skip de i210, fit for iblades but went back to my old mp53

What happen with the p7mc? Is it that bad? I wasfitted for P7MC I am considering it or may wait till 2022 to see any other new irons coming out

I've got them with C-Tapers and something just doesn't feel right...I'm getting a bit older and the C-Tapers just require more effort to swing and the longer irons are a bit low spin...I've always played S300 in either DG or AMT and for some reason they just seem to fit my swing

I LOVE the head shape of the MC, I'm tempted to resift with normal MBS 120 but not sure if it's worth the hassle

If the pings are more forgiving in the longer irons then it may be a winner

I love my Iblades, play 4-pw in them.  I think they are still the best irons ping has ever made hands down.  I know there have been a bunch of other models come out since then.  But I still think these are the best they have ever made and continue to game them!  Also think they Anser hybrids are the best they have ever made and still play those too!

IMO Iblade was too forgiving. I had absolutely no sense if I hit it good or bad. And when I hit it good, it went 15 yards further than expected.

iblades are amazing. I shot my lowest round with them years ago, sold them, bought them sold them and of course just bought them again hoping to have the delivered today or tomorrow! they are truly the best blend of feel, forgiveness in an iron that is not tiny blade like. I like the thinner sole as a picker compared to i210 which I had as well. Will see if they perform like they did in the past.

I am a bit of a picker myself…AoA at -1*…  prefer thinner soles… did you find the 210 or if you tried the 230 …, soles to be too thick??

funny you should ask...I have tried a bunch of different clubs recently but just went back to the iblades and goal was to beat 78 (low round this year was 77) and I shot a 77...treated myself with a glide 4 50 that I had been eyeing in the proshop. I have tried the i210s before, feel was amazing but with my shallow angle sole was too big. Tried the demo head of the i230 on a mat and I could feel the sole hitting before the ball...as a superintendents dream golfer as I barely take any divots, I just prefer narrower soles like taylormade p750 and iblades. The differences are not significant but noticeable for me. The benefit of the iblades is that they were actually forgiving..hence I have come full circle again on irons and selling off stuff that didn't work for me.

And the i59 just didn’t get the job done?

I had it with the project x ls shaft which has a horrible feel for me so it translated into a poor feel for the club head. Given the expense of the clubs, I wasn’t inclined to tinker with reshafting and so forth so I got rid of them. My junior pro has a set he doesn’t like using either so I have entertained tinkering with his set.

The i-blade is still the best iron PING has ever made (would have loved a set of s-55's though, missed out there). I have a set and they are as good as anything in the players cb/mb category.

you still gaming the iblades? I am considering making a switch but love these clubs

I am still gaming iblades. Wish they would release them maybe in a limited edition black finish as well. It would sell like hot cakes.

I personally think if i59 doesn’t receive the tour love or sales they predicted, they’ll move that club back to a cast/players cb similar to iblade. Many ping players like myself prefer their cast-players feel and that still shows in the number of pga guys using s55/iblade/i210/i230

My guesstimate though is that ping won’t release another players iron in that category until 2025ish, so it’s hard to suggest we will see a successor soon.

As I’ve said in other threads… iblade 2.0 trademarks are owned by ping and have been for many years.

I have iblades.  I love them  (even though I am a high-handicapper).  I have a brand new backup set (exact same specs) waiting in an unused bag.  Hoping these get me through for the next several years or even decades.

I don't have a handicap  (not an official one).  I seldom break 100.  My short game isn't good  (need to practice).  I don't give up many bad shots because of my choice of irons.  They feel great.  They look great.

Anyone have an opinion on if the 2019 first gen T100 or iBlades are better in terms of forgiveness and MOI?

I went to hit the i59s today - lovely looking iron, great spin. Very comparable to the Callaway Apex Pro 21 in my opinion.

Before I left I went to hit the iBlade which I had never hit before. Great feeling iron. I absolutely smoked it. How can an iron this small be so forgiving? Is it just the honeymoon period where you think you found the holy grail or can others confirm that the iBlade is extremely forgiving? Honestly felt as if not more forgiving as a Mizuno JPX Forged or Callaway Apex.

Am I crazy?

Honeymoons and hoing can be a bit**.  LOL  Crazy or not depends on your regular mechanics and ball striking.  It happens to a lot of people, especially with clubs that have a small indefinite amount of forgiveness, and look similar to small blades.

IMO having a set of t100s, and tested t100's before buying.  Reason there's a gradual increase of t100 sets in the secondary markets.  If you don't use the COG nut, they are not that forgiving.

Another win for IBlade. Ping really needs to rerelease either S55 or IBlades or come out with new cast iteration. My S55 are getting worn and not interested in any of Pings current iron offerings. Come on Ping.

They tried too hard and outthought themselves with the i59. Should have just revamped the iBlade with the tungsten weighting and increased TPU used in i230.
