Titleist TSi2 fairway vs TSi3 fairway

hypergolf

Recommended Posts

I am in the market for a new 3 and 5 fairway woods.

Would like to get some feedback for those who have tried Titleist TSi2 or TSi3 fairway woods.

What is the main difference in performance off the tee and off the deck?

Interested in this as well as I just ordered the TSi3 without ever hitting it because of the tgw deal on the AD DI.

😆 I did the exact same thing.

If I'm not mistaken, the F2/TS2/TSi2 models have shallower faces and the F3/TS3/Tsi3 models have deeper faces, meaning the 2 models should in general be easier to hit off the deck and the 3 models should be more effective off the tee. That's not to say one wouldn't be effective in the opposite application as well.

A good friend of mine was fit for a TSi3 with a Fuji Pro 2.0 and now only hits it about 10 yards shorter off the tee than his RadSpeed with a Ventus Blue, which he was also fit for. He's probably received about a 15 yard boost off the tee over the PING G400 3 wood he was using before.

It’s the WRX way. The 5 wood thread had me start looking. Ended up going with the 3 in the end but that doesn’t mean the 5 won’t come later.

I did the comparison in the Spring to go against my TS2 4wd and in the end it wasn't worth changing.  As expected, the 3 will have a flatter flight vs. the 2, nothing earth shatteringly different in performance vs. the previous generation.

As expected, TXG has a video of this as well:

I originally bought a tsi3 3 wood but switched to the 2. The ball speed was the same. Maybe even slightly faster. But launch was up and spin was more manageable.

The same could be said for someone with a more negative A0A vs. a positive with woods.  Also could be said for people with different path issues and just how much "adjustability" each has to try and help swing flaws.  But they are trying to do something in 20 mins that is higher quality content.  Having just Matt hit shots also remove more variables and is basically a known to those who watch the vids and can see the swing changes and speed gains.

The main point that they try to drive home, is that A. get fit if you can B. try as much as you possibly can and C. there isn't that much difference in performance throughout the OEM's, they are all making really good products right now.  There aren't any true dogs to avoid.

If you are seeing a segment that is missing, you are also free to start up your own channel and it can fill in what is missing.

Not being critical of their process, I just find a lot of their reviews to be slightly irrelevant to the average golfer. They do offer good info overall.

BTW, not sure if you intended to come off as a snarky fanboy, but you did.

Not starting my own channel, unless the OEM's want to send me free gear.

I went to school with Matt, worked with Mikey for a time and have met Ian a few times over the years, but not a "fanboy"...  Snarky is in the eye of the beholder here.

In reality, they are infotainment.  Would you consider watching the PGA Tour actually relevant in any way to 'the average golfer'?  Nothing is relatable in any way at all, courses they play for the most part, conditions, yardages, equipment completely tuned and anything they want at their finger tips.

What’s the deal???  I went on tgw and it’s the usual $200 uncharge do ad di. I know HD was free for a while, but seems to have been resolved now.

It’s only on the TSi3, when you enter custom specs, and only for the AD DI. I just checked and am still seeing a $0 upcharge.

Just jumped on the TSi 3 wood at $299 with the AD-DI 7x - hope they don't flag this as an error and cancel (like what happened with the error on the wilson staff irons a few weeks ago). Given the state of new club delivery times, they have a couple of months to change their minds.

Other weird glitch I’ve noticed lately is PGA Superstore offering Ventus Blue and Black HB shafts for no upcharge on the Epic Super Hybrid.

They also offer them as no-upcharge on the Apex UW. But that’s definitely an error. The Apex UW takes wood shafts, not hybrid shafts. I called their customer service to ask about them having the wrong kind of shafts listed with the Apex UW … and after they weren’t helpful (customer service rep I talked to totally got it, but the rep’s supervisor did not and insisted it was listed right), I just went ahead and ordered one on the off chance that they’ll honor their mistake and send me one with a Ventus Blue wood shaft.

Doubt it’s the real aftermarket ventus blue anyway

I’m not aware of Callaway having any made-for Ventus shafts the way TaylorMade does. On Callaway’s website, only the real-deal versions are listed as options at their full price.

For your sake, I hope you’re right

I just called Callaway customer service and they said they definitely don’t have any non-Velocore made-for Ventus shafts; unlike TaylorMade they only sell the real-deal versions from Fujikura.

I also called PGA SS and they confirmed this would come directly from Callaway, not out of any proprietary made-for Ventus stash that PGA SS happens to have. In other words, if Callaway says they only do real-deal Ventus shafts, PGA SS doesn’t have the ability to place orders for anything else. And for what it’s worth, these exact same shafts are shown WITH an upcharge on the Big Bertha hybrids.

The Callaway customer service rep said it sounds like a screw-up on PGA SS’s website and sort of laughed and said I should jump on it.

So, who knows? And I’m definitely not trying to sound critical of @Mobert19 here — I was skeptical as well, and still sort of am. Just sharing what I was told. It’s not an enormous deal to me anyway because I was planning on swapping out the shaft myself. But if I can get a real-deal Ventus Blue in it for free…

Anyway, this is off topic; just wanted to put it out there!

  • 2 weeks later...

I got a TSi2 a couple of weeks ago and love it so far.  5W but 3/4" short and set down to 18.75 degrees, so more like a 6W.

I played a tournament last weekend and although I played like crap, my only good shot was with that club.  Right at 255 carry, dropped onto the green and stopped within 2 feet of the divot, giving me a makeable eagle putt.  It is very accurate off the tee as well; just a fairway finder if I swing easy.  I have a ton of confidence with this club.   I have no idea the spin, but even on the range, I have hit plenty of balls where they checked up almost immediately, so it definitely is an "attack the green' sort of feel.

That is just what I bought it for!  Mine has the RDX 6.5 75g shaft.

I have a previous gen TS3 4-wood with AV blue 75TX shaft, also 3/4" short.  It goes a lot lower and I can belt that thing off the tee almost as far as my driver.  But I don't use it that much unless it is windy; the TSi2 6W gives me more options and is more accurate.  Downside is that I have a hole at the top of my bag now vs a hole between my 3H and 4W.

I would recommend it for sure.

I am not good enough to match that kind of consistency out on the course.  Most of us aren't.  Which is why they are pretty irrelevant.  Me playing well or playing poorly has really nothing to do with my gear and everything to do with me.  I try to find something that doesn't punish me too badly on a crappy swing and call it good!

Tsi3 is generally going to be lower launching and lower spinning. Tsi3 has a deeper face. Tsi2 has a shallower face. It should launch a touch higher and maybe spin a touch more. I found tsi2 to want to go left, even with the face set to open. I found tsi3 to be fairly neutral.

The two drivers have different center of gravity and that will impact how the head and shaft work together (or don't). Tsi2 will be more forgiving on off center strikes.

Has anyone got any shipping/delivery from Tgw on the tsi3 recently? Ordered with the GD DI, and have no idea when to expect it, if at all given the titleist lead times.

Ordered mine on the 15th and got my tracking information today. Looks like it was picked up yesterday and I’ll have it in hand by Sunday. Hoping it will come a day early so I can take it to my Sunday morning round.
