Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi

Correct me if I'm wrong but there is no thread yet for this club, even though some people mention it in the other Mizuno Pro threads.

So who has had a chance to hit it, and what are your impressions: looks, sound, feel, distance?

I ordered the 4i sight unseen to pair with my 225s (5i-Pw) but I have no clue what to expect at this point.

Hi OP @uglande: FYI @knudson81 has reviewed (or previewed?) the Mizuno pro FliHi on the ClubJunkie podcast

I have the previous model Fli-hi, and have tried the new one in a shop, which means hitting off a mat into a net.

I prefer the new one to the old. Liked the look at address more (just looks easier to hit). Feel and sound is tough to measure properly when hitting indoors, but I liked the feel for sure.

If I hadn't just put a brand new shaft in my previous model Fli-Hi, I would have probably ordered one of the new ones. If I could buy a head only, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I hit one at GG yesterday and wasn’t a fan.   I’m even a mizuno fan boy but I don’t get along with their utilities.  My new level flew about 15-20 feet higher and was more forgiving.

This here is what confuses me about driving irons or long iron replacements. Some players want flat piercing flight. While other players want towering height. Gotta test them yourself and understand what you need the club to do.

Guess it depends what your intended use is.  I use mine as a 400 yard par four set up club.  I never hit it off the deck in the fairway but use it for punch outs all the time.   The new level has been a diamond in the rough for me as far as driving irons.  Stupid good forgiveness and tons of ball speed/launch.   I saw the mizuno and just wanted to check it out.. I hit last years offering and it didn’t work out either.  This years does look better at address being gloss black , I’ll say that.

Yes. I have a 19 degree hybrid, and while I enjoy the forgiveness over my current mp60 3 iron... the ball flight is just stupid high. On long par threes even with the wind at my back I can stop it within a couple feet of the divot. Wind in my face though, it's almost unplayable. and I can't hit that thing low.

I'm looking for something with a much more "normal" lower trajectory. I'll probably be going the utility route.

The piercing flight idea originated in early 2000s when Project X shafts became popular. The piercing idea is this: the shaft give initial decent launch angle, but then flattens out during flight to maximize distance.

Caution: repeated studies show that the average amateur golfer does not hit the ball as high as he thinks he does.

Interesting turn to FLI-HI Pro. I always thought of FLI-HI as an all-players club that one tweaked with shaft choice.

Well, what are you using it for?  A driving iron and a long iron replacement are two different things.  My u500 2 iron sits between my 3 wood and my 5 wood distance wise due to the low spin.

The average golfer doesn't have a bonafide use for a driving iron.

Agreed. If you need a high ball flight and more spin, go with a hybrid.

Lower spin and trajectory, go with a driving iron.

I have used a srixon u45 with tensei pro white for a few years and really love it but of course since I’m a degenerate golfer I sold it for a u85 18 degree same shaft and it’s good but not great. Saw this and ordered 19 degree immediately after I found out they offer the tensei pro white at a ZERO up charge shaft. The club just looks so good. Hopefully it plays as good as it looks. Discount dans 199 feee shipping.  The shaft alone if you buy is 125. Go mizuno!

I've only had one range session and off a mat with the Fli-Hi 4 CK Red Tensei.

I had an instructor hit it once and he said, "I'm buying this one." High and far.

For me, with old range balls, it produced a mid flight on the slight high side. My 4H goes higher but don't know if it goes as far ... yet. Need to step on Trackman in a week and see.

I'll limit my comments until I have more time with it.

Going to get one too just not sure which loft. Right now I game a 5wood 7wood 4iron. Not sure if I could fit one in between the 7wood and 4iron or if it will be a club that just goes in the bag for certain courses or days??

I did hit it at a fitting last week and it was pretty nice. Looks great

I was looking at this to be my low running bullet machine off the tee. Would it make sense to put it between my 7 wood (21 degrees) and my 5i (25 degrees), or between my 3w (15 degrees) and my 7w? If it helps in answering my question, my clubhead speed is in the mid-90s with my long irons.

Also would I better off with the 225 or this? I was fitted into the 225 Pros, but chose a new set of the MP20 MMCs instead. I was impressed with the 225, but haven't had a chance to try the Fli-Hi.

Depends on the loft. I would think the 2i Fli-Hi would fit nicely between a 3w and 7w and I have contemplated that setup in the past. If you go the other direction, I would think the 4i Fli-Hi might fit between the 7w and 5i, but possibly encroaching on 7w distance. If you go that route, it might make more sense to go with a MMC or HMB 4i. But if you're going 2i, then the extra forgiveness and pop from the head of the Fli-Hi would work better.

I just ordered the 223 pro 4-gw last week. I too really want this club but not sure where to fit it in. Top of my bag is Driver, 5wood@16, 7wood @19 into my 4iron set club @22.
I might just be a windy dry day club??
