Mizuno JPX 923

The Pro 223 is a smaller 921 forged with similar pop and forgiveness.  Makes one wonder where the 921 forged goes from here.  I like everything about them other than the 7-4 irons have too much of a backside which is visible at address.  If Mizuno takes care of that and improves sound and feel a bit more I may be in the market for an upgrade.

I am coming from the 921 forged moving to the Pro 223’s this season. 921forged is a great iron but I do get along better with the 223. At least during my fitting session. We will see what happens when I get them in play

I'd love to see the 923 Forged move back toward what the 919 Forged was in terms of look, feel and size.

I think the 923F is going to be a killer set of irons considering the 223 being a leaner, cleaner and sleeker version of 921F.  How exactly you keep the 223 and 923F from basically becoming one set of irons is really the challenge.  I could see the entire set of Next Gen JPX Forged being all GF Forged HD chromoly.

They have to have some differences between them that could kee them in the JPX but it would suck not to have the full flow grain

I play 223s now and personally, I feel like they're an evolution of the 900 forged. Played 900F during it's release year, instant fav. Loving 223s now.

Also played the 900 forged since the release year.  I loved them and would still be playing them but they had the wrong shaft so got fitted for 921s.  Would absolutely love if they went back to the satin finish in the 923s.  I think the 900 forged are the best looking of all the JPX forged irons.

Give me the JPX Pro head with the 923 offset and I would be in heaven. I wonder how well the 923 sells.... Why not just have the JPX Pro line as the "players cavity"? The two clubs seem redundant. Two nice but imperfect clubs. Take the less offset and smaller footprint of the 923 with the JPX Pro head and call it a day.

I'm so confused here. Do you mean the JPX 921 Tour head and the Mizuno Pro 223 offset? (Not trying to be a jerk, just trying to understand which models you're referring to.)

For me, the 223's have more pop than the 921F - and softer feel due to the copper layer, and the thinner face (gives the pop). Great irons and more forgiving than most of us thought.

I hope they leave the overall chassis of the HMPs alone. I truly believe they are in a perfect sweet spot for blade length, MOI, and playability. Seems ping I series and HMPs are the lone holders of 81-83 mm blade lengths.

So can I assume the 5 iron in the 223 will more or less be able to keep up distance wise to the 921 F even with a degree weaker in loft?

Sure hope you’re right about the supply issues. It gets frustrating having to wait FOREVER for custom orders.

Just ordered a Titleist TSi driver from Dan's (who is really good, and has relationships galore with OEMs). Wanted it with a Tensei CK Pro Blue 60g shaft. The guy there called the shaft "exotic". and said the wait time would be 4 - 8 weeks. Seriously, two months. In all the years I've bought clubs, I've never seen anything like this. Up until Covid, custom clubs would get shipped in, like, 4 - 8 days, not freakin' weeks.

I don't expect anyone to be getting their hands on the JPX 923s until early 2023. The global supply chain seriously blows right now. (Then again, a lot of folks are having trouble even getting food right now in some parts of the world, so I guess custom clubs are a sort of "first world problem".)

That may depend on your shaft, but if in doubt, bend it stronger. And with ANY new iron set from an OEM, always have your lofts and lie angle checked by an independent party - they are never correct. Even my Ping set was off by 1-2 degrees in loft and a degree in lie angle. Will get my Mizuno's checked out, too.
