Yes, I'm happy re Leona and now it simply comes down to playing her own game, the right course management and excellent execution but the reality is that she can do all that but Marina has to only do it one stroke better than her. Marina's won before and is a quality player.

 

The one thing that is clear from Leona's comments down the years on this stuff is that she will just focus on her own inputs and not the outcome. She said in her post round interview that she had no idea what the leaderboard was looking like whilst she played (yeah I realise there may not have been any on display on the course for this event 😄).

 

One other thing that has been a big plus for her over the last 10 months is the recruitment of Dermot Byrne, her Irish caddie. He works really well with her and gets a lot of credit from her team for his positive impact on Leona's performances. Great to have that in a final round when you are in contention.

 

The other big plus for her is her liking and excellent performance in matchplay-type situations and her and Marina playing final group together creates a defacto matchplay situation, so right in Leona's wheelhouse.

On a really serious note, nice to see that Marina is a multi-sport athlete and her golf attire doubling for that netball ball game after the round.

Another serious observation - the American male announcers seem to really like Leona.

 

Now folks, you may be thinking something but that's not what I mean, simply they love pronouncing her name, it's usually Leona MaGWY-ERRRRRRRR, with the GWY-ERRRRRRRR very emphasised and taking about 10 times as long to say the Leona Ma bit.

 

Maybe they use her name as a sort of voice warm-up exercise before the coverage starts?

 

Listen tomorrow, you will hear it delivered like this often.

@Rapidcat Not sure the USA 🇺🇸 based folks = familiar with Netball 🗑?

Presumably the 🇨🇦 Canadians are familiar with Netball...ditto 🇦🇺 Aussies & other Commonwealth-legacy countries

So to your question: the Goal Attack (GA on the bib) is one of two players on a team that are allowed to shoot, the other is the Goal Shooter (designated by GS on the bib). The Goal Attack usually is a mobile player that covers the front 2/3's of the court whilst the Goal Shooter is often the tallest player on a team and usually parks themselves under the net and must stay in the front 1/3 of the court. The GS usually scores 70% of the goals, the GA 30% but this can vary.

So... Ronaldo CR7 at ManUtd should have a “GS” bib (as he doesn’t defend & mainly lives in the 6-yard box (and sometimes backtracks to the 18-yard penalty box)
