LOVE the camber of i230 sole design.  It looks like it wants to just glide right though the turf.  I’ve played Zx7 for a season 1/2 and it’s been great, just wonder if that sole would suit my sweepie ways just a little better.

Roger Dunn in Southern California got 5 sets in today. Will go on the shelves Thursday along with the iCrossover. I couldn’t convince them to let me buy them today 😂

I received my set this weekend, the irons are silky, they look incredible. I currently game the i200s, yet to bond with the i230s but did play a full round with them. Definitely need to dial them in as they weren't a straight transition from my current set - oddly.

Tried the i230 7 iron and it was lovely…but I couldn’t beat a new set of ZX7 currently listed at $899. Two fantastic sets of irons but at very different costs.

I finally got a hold of a demo tonight by chance… wow! I have not hit an iron and smiled in a while.

 

If you're here, you're fairly interested. If you haven't had a chance to hit them, I came away with three thoughts:

 

1. These were a delight to hit. A full club longer than my side-by-side blueprints, and maybe a little longer than that, while still holding height and descent angles. If anything, the Alta Stiff was too high for me, but it was lovely nonetheless.

 

2. Speaking of, that Alta has come a long, long way since I last hit it. If you fit it, you're going to appreciate how smooth it is. Maybe it has been for the other iterations, but when I last hit it, that shaft was a mess. Now? Smooth and holds on nicely. Just had a wee draw on full out shots.

 

3. If you haven't hit it yet, and you want to scratch your OCD itch a little, I'll describe it similarly to others as "solid". It's freaky solid. It feels like you half-trucked it even off centre. This is not an iron where you hit the middle and it feels like a marshmallow. It's the other side of the spectrum; it feels like you hammer a nail all the way in on one swing solid. Axe-in-tree solid. It's unique to me… in a way it feels like you flushed it kind of like old-school persimmon. It makes no sense until you hit it yourself, but it's a feeling that says "put another one down, I want to do that again".

 

This is an absolute buy. Apologies to the wife ahead of time but merry xmas to me. They're so good that I'm not 100% on buying the 4XR… I hope it feels half as good!

Yeah it's pretty clear that the consensus here is that the Wunder comment was general ignorance and he shouldn't be taken seriously anyway..

 

Ping website actually doesn't specify that bounce changes when doing Retro / Power spec, it just refers to non-standard and as Power/Retro is listed it could mean they are seen as standard:

 

"Club bounce angles will vary slightly if ordered with non-standard loft specs."

 

But still would like hear a confirmation of how things are from someone like Marty Jertson or Paul Wood.

I ordered from DD on Monday and I noticed the charge went on my card that night so I'm hopeful they are being built as we speak.  @karstens_ghost review from earlier has me giddy.

I ordered mine from DD on 10/25. I am really hoping they ship by the end of next week. Fingers crossed. Now I just need to move some of my extra gear. Haha

I ordered last Thursday and mine shipped Monday as well. Due to get here Friday, but tracking shows them moving pretty quickly so fingers crossed they show up tomorrow.

I would imagine that the i230 are going to be longer.  Likely leaving a gap between your 54 and PW.  I guess it depends on what you would use that club for.  If it's just a full shot club, I say go with the set UW.  If it's going to be a specialty type shot maker, then get the glide.  Can always get the irons and figure out the wedge situation later.

 

BTW, I also struggle with a severe lack of legit demo/fitting options.  I had to adopt the buy and try method a long time ago haha.

You are right, it has a unique feel that is hard to describe. To me it felt like it just exploded off of the face but not in a SGI way. By far their best feeling iron.
