Wilson 2024 new staff blade/cb, dynapower forged, staff wedges, staff balls

Going to pick up a set of the CB—maybe grab the 5i in Dyna forged. Going to bend the CB 1* strong as I’m accustomed to 32* 7i. Shouldn’t change turf interaction too much?

i’m 64 snd my iron swing speed tops out st 74 to 75.  

I’m 55 and a good 7 iron is 145-150. The 5.5 always worked and was on the fence as to whether try the LZ or soft step the regular 5.5. Thanks!

It’s definitely a better feeling shaft than the standard PX in my experiences.

im thinking about trying a 5-pw mb set with 24 and 21 UT in long iron this year. 
 

anyone played the ut?  How does it compare to say a srixon ut?

No idea as of a release date. I’ve got a few rounds on the current offering and like it. It’s a 21*, 1/2” short.  I like it better than the Srixon, Titleist, or Ping as of late. I’ve tried several last few gens of all 3 mentioned.

Curious as why the bore thru look in the hosel isn't on this club. I believe its on the CB and Blade.

In the irons, it's a weight saving move, to help get the CG a bit farther away from the hosel.  I think they're probably able to do that in other ways with the utility clubs.

The older STAFF CB 7i has 4* of bounce.  The sole is wide enough on the new one that despite losing a degree of bounce (strengthening the loft 1*) the turf interaction should not change much.

Fellow Project X LZ user here.  I use the 115g 5-7 and 120g 8-AW currently.  I recently denied the STAFF MB with the "stock" TTDG Mid 115 and was VERY IMPRESSED.  May have to jump in on a STAFF MB 5-AW set with the TTDG Mid 115 for all the clubs.  S300 step pattern.

 

Long story short...try the new "Mid" shaft out.  Comes in a 105 gram version as well.

I’ll share that I’ve hit the new Wilson mb and cb twice head to head with the cobra mb and cb.  TLDR; if your in the market for any club in the players category add Wilson into the mix you demo.  You will likely has to ask your fitter to add them, but well worth the time spent.
 

With the 7 iron, I get the cleanest strikes with the mb heads, followed pretty closely by the Wilson mb and then the cobra cb is a distance 3rd place.  
 

Oddly enough, I get the highest ball speed and most distance with the cobra mb.  It’s 1-2 mph faster on average than the Wilson mb, about the same as the Wilson cb, and 2-3 faster than the cobra cb.

 

The cobra mb is also the lowest spin at about 5700-5900 off mats using a titliest prov1x ball.  Wilson mb is right at 5900-6000, Wilson cb about the same.  Cobra cb spun up a bit more to about 6500.

 

where they start to separate for me is dispersion.  The cobra mb has some sharper edges when it comes to ball flight for me.  It’s easier to work, and wants to work left or right depending on strike quality.  Occasional I would catch ball that curved too much left for my liking.  The Wilson mb was fantastic in comparison.  Still was easy to shape the shot if need, but when I wanted to hit a pretty neutral shot and mishits a hit the ball only went 10 ft or so off line at 180 yards.  Carry distances were also super consistent as well.  I think my lowest carry with Wilson was within 10 yards of my highest.  Cobra had a long left one in the tank.

 

the Wilson cb wasn’t far behind the mb.  Ball speed and spin were up a tick as was peak height.  I don’t need any of those.  And I didn’t get any better dispersion.  The cobra cb tended to spin up more and was the shortest club in the group for me.  I think the wider soles in the cobra cb in comparison impact how much dynamic loft I deliver.

 

Based on this.  I’m going to take the plunge in a 4-pw set of Wilson mbs with c taper 120s.  Trying to go a little lighted than 130 grams this year and these seem to have the best balance of feel and stability vs others in the 120 class (px 6.0, s taper 120, dg 120 x, mid 115 x100, modus 120x, tour v120).  I may consider swapping out the 4-5 at some point for the mb, or potential trying out a 24 utility iron as a 4 iron replacement.

Played two 9 hole rounds this week and I couldn't have been happier with the irons.  Just a pure great feeling on the strike, and distance wise they are at least as long as my T350 and on a couple shots even longer.  Looking forward to putting them in play during a couple league rounds in the next week.

Does anyone know if Wilson custom does hard or soft stepping? I called their support and the rep had no idea what it was and they emailed me back that they didn’t. I think maybe the people in support aren’t familiar with it, the question got confused, but through dealers they accommodate the request. Does anyone have experience with them stepping shafts?

I asked.   they don’t do custom swing-weights or soft/hard stepping.  They went further to say that I would need to work with a customer club maker after purchase to accomplish that.

If it’s really the case that they don’t do that stuff then I can see why Wilson is in the market where they are

It was rather disappointing since Wilson prices are now approaching all other oems that offer more stock options and customizations.  I ordered a set, but I understand why they aren’t more popular.  Either charge 10 bucks more a club to get more options, or 20 dollars less.

It makes me wonder if they even adjust swing weight to match specs if you order a shaft or even grip that is a different weight from their stock offering.

I think it’s far more common for an oem to not do this than it is for them to sw everything just right

There is also a RDX Black 60g 5.5 flex, 4.0 torque and a 70g 6.5 flex, 3.5 torque but those would be for extreme cases.

What is meant by ' extreme cases'  IV has my first fitting last week for the dp Ti. And was fitted with the 5.5 rdx 60g black and yes just the name  black  makes me a bit nervy if this would be the right shaft or not , s.speed is 92- 95

In typical golfwrx fashion I’m waiting to find out “what’s wrong with them” like an off center core or seam issue so I can find an excuse to play something else. But there’s nothing wrong with them. I’m playing the non x ball and love it from tee to green. Great all around ball.

So I saw on Wilson's instagram that staffer Martin Trainer came second in the Zurich Classic. I look up his WITB and he's rocking a 6.5° Staff Model driver. Now I don't need putter loft off the tee, but I think the clubs look sleek and am wondering if anyone knows anything about it coming to retail...
