Tried to let the design settle with me before I put some thoughts out there.

 

I like them, but unless they've put some kind of new coating on them? I don't think the SM9s are in any danger.

 

Think I prefer the SM8 and SM9 design a little more, also prefer the new Pings over them.

The TSR line had an earlier US retail release (9/23/2022) vs previous cycles (I would expect the next cycle to follow suit). 909 to TSi had October/November retail releases for drivers.

I think it’s worth at least testing the s159 this year for sure, never has a ping wedge looked better from address and had so many amazing grind and finish options. Ping is always up there with the top technology so now that they have the looks to go with it I don’t see why it can’t be something to compete with Vokey.

Personally I don’t know what’s not to like.  I wish they offered raw at standard pricing, but it looks like a vokey, and if it feels like a vokey, and they have the grinds, I’m good.

Ever since the SM7, I've never really needed any upgrades except to replace worn grooves. I could happily play the 7, 8 or 9 without any complaints, so the only thing motivating me to get the 10s is cosmetics, but if these are the real images ... I'll pass. It's a busier design that makes them look more like RTX and PING. Step backward aesthetically.

They have a jdm vokey/sm9 mix vibe to me. I wasn’t expecting anything ground breaking so I’ll stick my a fresh set of 9’s

I just don’t get getting excited about new vokeys. Of course they aren’t going to change them. It would be as stupid as when coke changed their formula in the 80s. Why would they change something that works. 

 

I just grabbed SM9s tour chrome at $129. Raws were $210. Don’t get me started on that. 😅

You can order custom RAW SM9's right now from RockBottom for $179. GolfUSA also had them on 15% off over black friday. I picked me up a set and had them reshafted with modus wedge shafts and am in love. If these mockups are real, i'm happy I got the 9's. Just not a fan of the big badge on the back. Looks very CB wedge to me... looking for a more Mizuno T24 look with Vokey grinds/bounces.

A grind is definitely intriguing. I like the idea shaving off the ribbon sole to make it go faster thru the turf. But cringe at paying for a WW at retail. With tax and shipping making it a ~$250 wedge is bonkers considering I picked up a new spare sm9 T grind for $85 lol 

 

Yes I remember when WW felt ridiculous, but it is about the same with any custom wedge/grind. There aren't a lot of experienced/expert grinders in the custom wedge space either. I have Artisans in PW and SW and then WW A-grind in 60º. But then again, I am a wedge ho.
