Smoke Max vs Smoke TD

Curious if anyone has had a chance to hit em yet. The Max head has been far and away the monster for me.

Jokes aside I'm waiting to see if the standard Max will provide anything over the Paradym std tour I have in 9+ right now. If anything maybe just the new face tech will help on some off-center hits. MOI and overall performance/shaping seems similar. I do want a head that sits open so I can loft up to around 10.5-11 and not have it sit closed which is why the spec'd tour 9+ is nice.

 

Can I trade in my std tour when you're in town in March for a TD Max or Max 9+?  🙂

That's what I'm hoping for as well.  I went from the Epic Speed to the Paradym Standard and it was such a game-changer for me during the last season.  

 

I'm hoping for slightly higher launch and just a touch more spin than the Paradym.  Other than that, I'm actually excited that the chevron is back on the top line.

 

Currently playing the Paradym in a Ventus TR Red with no plans on switching that out.

@JohnnyDub curious what are you seeing with the smoke 3wood max vs TD out in the wild... is it similar to last year where the spin was a touch lower in the reg. paradym vs. the TD?  I prefer the shape and look of the TD 3 wood but couldn't get the TD spin numbers down on last year's model, so looking at AI smoke TD this year.  Thanks!

Hit both, TD was better as it brought the spin and launch down a touch.

 

TD ball speed was also marginally higher..

I’ll let you know when mine arrives. Pre-ordered the Max 10.5 with Denali black. I played the Paradym TD last year and while it was the longest driver I played, it was not the most forgiving when my swing was off.  
 

I have some other shafts to try out if the Denali does not work. First pre-order I have done in years.

based on this may be up my alley. would this have any benefit from the epic max ls I currently game?

Is it just best to wait 2 more cycles and then get refit since they say driver technology really only shows an improvement every 5 years or so?

Played paradym 3D last season and had my best driving year ever really had no reason to change this year other than I’m a wrxer. I really thought this would be the year I got back into a taylormade driver head but head to head it wasn’t even close the ai smoke TD and the TSR3 Blew away the QI10LS.

I have a Paradym Ai Smoke Max with a Graphite Design Tour AD VF 6S ordered. Can’t wait to hit it. Callaway customer service said it will be built and should ship next week.

Long time TM guy here. You guys got me with standard paradym last year in about October. I'll hit the new one soon enough, but I don't see how it'll take over for paradym.

Since the Paradym Super hybrid experiment seems to be coming to its expected end performance wise, what are the feelings for the smoke fairway woods?

Just waiting on my club’s demo’s to arrive. Really looking forward to tying a Max and seeing if I can make an anti left bomber with it.  Haven’t played a Callaway since the original Epic.

For anyone who has seen the Smoke Max in person, does it appear to sit a good bit open at address? Saw one in right handed today and it looks like it did, but i’m a lefty and its always a little tough to tell backwards. Thanks!

I like the look of the max head but need aggressive spin reduction which is why I got along so well with the Paradym triple diamond last year. It was the first driver I could consistently keep in a good spin window. With the forward weight available in the max I could probably make it low spinning enough but I had the best year ever driving with the triple diamond last year so I would go with that again.

I took one out for a spin today!  Dropped the loft to 8* and hit all but 2 fairways.  Club sits naturally open to my eye.

 

 Coming from Paradym TD 9, I had to loft up with AI Smoke TD to 10.5, which is what I have ordered. I saw a few hundred rpms less spin with new TD.  After today I am totally questioning ordering the TD instead of the Max head.  GREAT driver.  It has speed to go along with the forgiveness.  And being able to move CG around is a bonus.  In fact, it was so good I may call our rep and change my order.  It sounds and feels very good.

The 9* head I tested today sat square to open for me.  Just lays very nice on the ground.

I will say the thing for paradym triple diamond that sold it for me was it was the first true low spin head that I didn’t find sat open or was super fade biased. My miss is sometimes leaving it open and losing it was right and all of the low spin heads I have tried in the past I tended to lose more right or had a hard time turning them over when I try to work it left and with paradym td I was actually able to hit that draw. I find the max head easier to turn left but I can’t get away from the total spin killer that the td head is for me.

Yep, thats what I'm thinking. Today I had some wind and it performed well.  I was a bit worried spin would kick up a little but it never really did.  Held lines pretty well paired with VF

I ended up in std paradym as 23 came to a close. It may take a tweak here or there but you can get the std/max heads to sit in a spin window that's optimal and not worry about the low spinner. But the forgiveness of them is just unreal.

Our demo heads are 193G to 195G without adapter and stock weight installed.
