Yes they are.  However, TM has made 5 layer balls before.  Think Penta TP.  Absolutely loved those and bought 20 boxes way back in the day.

Oh, that was a great ball back then.  Loved the Penta.

Ohhhh the new TP5X is good.  Real good.   They must have put fairy dust in one of the 5 layers, because it's an all around great golf ball.  I'm very picky when it comes to a golf ball and am genuinely stoked.  It's firm not clicky, low spinning (but not too low), high with the irons, good in the wind and plenty of good green side spin.  I played 18 holes today, and I switched out balls on hole 16.  It wasn't scuffed but worn a little.   It was able to hang with Chrome Tour during yesterday's driver testing.  CT is long so, there's that.

I was ball striking today.  I hit 16 out of 18 greens, and the ball did all things well.  What more would you want? 3 birds and two bogeys and the rest pars.  I had some good looks for birdie and just didn't capitalize on them.  71.  I'm not one to share my round often but, I'm stoked for 2024 season if we are starting out like this.  Tp5X will be a top contender for the bag.

I don't even have to ball test, you're doing it all for me as most of our preferences seem to be the same. But this is a really good sign for sure especially with the TP5X and how they stepped up after 1-2 versions of being just ok it seems.

Taylormade has had at least one 5-piece offering in their lineup since the original Penta TP was released in late 2009.

Penta TP (2009)

Penta TP5 (2012)

Lethal (2013)

Tour Preferred X (2014)

Tour Preferred X (2016)

TP5/TP5x (2017)

TP5/TP5x (2019)
TP5/TP5x (2021)

TP5/TP5x (2024)

Callaway had a few 5-piece offerings in the past (Hex Black Tour and SR2/3), but with dual core/dual mantle construction vs Taylormade’s single core/triple mantle design (which I believe TM has a patent for).

Just watched a guy split a sleeve of the tp5x’s in half and every core was off center.  Must be tough to get right, I know Bridgestones struggled with that in the past as well.

I saw an IG post where they were cutting the '24 TP5x open and the cores were off-center.  The author was going to test if this was a fluke in his box or more widespread.  I'm trying to re-find that post.  Anyone seen this?  I'm trying to stoke anything but it was interesting but possibly just a one-off situation.

Again, might just be a small sample set, not a widespread issue.

Golf Ball guts account, cores did look a little suspect. But I think that's always going to be the case with 5 layers. More layers = more steps to screw up

this version still has a ways to go before being able to gain ANY market share.....these are the same as 2021 balls.....almost exactly.....x is still clicky and high flying....tp5 is still too soft and spinny

I saw the opposite.  '24 TP5x is a huge improvement over '21 in terms of bringing down spin.  They're still firm, but not nearly as the '19.  I found the '21 to be the softest of the bunch TBH.

Is the 24 x lower spinning than the 21? I’m still using the 19 Tp5x but almost out. Debating getting the new ones but the 21 version has me a little hesitant because it spun more than 19.

also, is the Prov1 the closest to the Tp5x in titleist’s lineup?

'24 is definitely lower spinning than the '21, however, not quite as low spin as the '19.

Yes.  '24 TP5x is a more durable version of the the left dash, IMO with a touch more green side spin.

I’ve been flipping back and forth between the 24 tp5x and 24 chrome tour.

tour is softer off all clubs,  has a bit lower spins, and seems to reach its apex sooner and just carry a bit longer.  Doesnt move left or right quite as much.  Ball has multiple patches of scuffs after 9 holes.

tp5x is firmer, but not as firmer as 19 versions.  Seems to launch a hair lower and rise up to an apex over a longer distance.  Easier to move left right and up down.  Ball looks new after 9 holes.

Still want to test the chrome tour x, but as of now the tp5x is the winner for me.

I've been testing the TP5x and CTX.  Like them both, but I think I'll go with TP5x for now.  Higher launch with driver and irons but wedges come off a little bit lower with more spin compared to the CTX.  Honestly, I could play either ball, but it's been cold and wet here in SoCal which is unusual and the little bit extra carry is helping.  May switch over to the CTX once the weather starts warming up.

This sounds pretty appealing. Does it last multiple rounds?

I love the left dash but never put the same ball in play for a second round. After 18 holes it’s pretty beat up. Same is true of the ProV1 and ProV1x though to be fair.

I'd say two rounds max under normal conditions.  It's not Vice Pro Plus durable, but it's not as fragile as the '21 TP5x.

So the chrome tour launches higher, spins less, is straighter and longer and youre choosing the tp5x?

Send them over this way, haha.  Seriously, keep them and play them.  When you run out, switch to left dash or '24 TP5x.  They're both pretty close to the '19 TP5x but launch a little higher.  Vice Pro Plus is also a close match, IMO.

I played 5 rounds in Myrtle 2 weeks ago with the AVX and bought some TP5x to see how it performed.  I liked the performance of Left Dash but hated how they felt off the putter so wanted to try the TP5x.

went to the course just to putt today and wanted to see how much a difference these two balls felt off the face.  I don’t even really notice a difference when playing a different ball on different days.  But back to back?  Took both my putters to try out today. White hot OG 7 bird and LAB DF2.1.

wow did TP5x feel firm off the DF2.1 and somehow came up short too.  The AVX was obviously softer by a lot but again, when not putting them back to back I hardly can tell.  I mean you know the AVX is softer because of the specs and my perceptions but I would say only marginally softer if you asked me when not putting back to back.  But a HUGE difference when doing this.  The OG 7 Bird is a much softer face putter.  Still the AVX feels much softer of course, but was continued to be surprised that it traveled further than the TP5x on the greens.  I still really like both balls but off putter the AVX felt great.

The AVX is generally one of the, if not the softest and quietest premium ball out there.  BXS is right up ther but the AVX is like a marshmallow.  TP5x is going to be in the opposite end of the spectrum, one of the firmest and loudest.

I find it unusual that CTX spins less and flies higher than TP5X for you off the wedges.  I love that they added more spin to the new ball, but def saw lower spin across the board than CTX, especially with the wedges and around the green. But, we all have different swings and impact positions vary lol.

I have a very steep AoA with wedges.  Irons, not so much.  Might be why I saw different results than you did.

I recently tested the TP5x and found similar results when putting.

I haven’t tested the new AVX so will give it a try. Otherwise I will just have to learn to hit it (TP5x) harder with the putter as I think it’s an excellent ball for my game
