I finally bit the bullet and ordered some today from the Taylormade website. Not sure how long the wait time will be before they arrive.

Processing…

So right after I posted that I saw TM Canada had the regular marking 3+1 deal finally and just grabbed those.

I was on the fence with what I wanted to have made, also ended up seeing some balls and the print quality can be spotty up close on certain things so didn't want to wish I picked something else and/or not be happy with the end results.

I was hoping the Pix would have the 3+1 sale online, but it looks like it is just the four dozen box through TaylorMade.

It had an estimated date on the page after you completed your order.
I ordered on 3/20 and it said something like 4/08 for me. I’m on the east coast (PA) for what that’s worth

Well I’m nearly sold on the tp5x, second round today with the new one and chipped in for eagle. That’s two chip ins in two rounds - I chip in on average once a calendar year. Had lots of tap ins for par when I missed the green due to the control with this ball round the green. If I have a third good round with this ball then it’s knocking the pro v1 out my bag.

I have used both......the TP5 vs the Prov1...feel is the same......distance is v1 but almost 15 yards....the TP5 flew so much higher (must be the spin).....played one round of 18 with each.....shot 83 with the TP5, 78 with the v1

Next two rounds were TP5x and V1x......V1x was longer by 5-7 yards on average but MUCH better 50 yards and in and in the chipping around the green...just much easier to control.....distances were pretty close.....v1X won hands down due to the control i had in the short game.

for craps and giggles,  i played 18 with v1 and tp5x...9 holes each......totally different balls.....v1 just feels so much nicer and flew lower and longer.....but not by much in distance......

How was the play in and around the greens....  V1 vs TP5 in particular?

I think if anything threads like this really illustrate that no one ball works for everyone, and you just have to go and try things to see what works best for your game.

After several rounds with the TP5x I think it’s a great ball but I still like the left dash a little better. Which is good since I just did the 3 for 1 deal on them lol.

lol I agree

I highly doubt any top tier ball has a 15 yard discrepancy.

Exactly…. For some reason that guy has strong opinions against any ball not stamped Titleist. He always makes silly statements that have no factual basis. I don’t have a dog in the fight since I play Bridgestone golf balls, but no major manufacturer is making bad golf balls. They are all very good and the performance is very close with similar models.

Google and youtube is your friend

Only tests I find show the performance within all golf balls categories of the same construction are practically the same. I wasn’t the one who made the claim, you were so back it up….

Makes bold definitive claim that all tests show ProV1's superiority.  Asked for proof and basically says, "find it yourself".  I will admit that I did try to look when you initially said that.  For one, I didn't buy it so wanted to see for myself.  I couldn't find a test that showed it.  But, there really wasn't a lot and honestly, I lost interest.

I mean, I understand that the ProV1 is the ball you prefer.  Maybe the ball that fits you best.  You shot an 83 with a TP5 and a 78 with a ProV1.  Notify the presses.

I fired up the google machine again today and still couldn't find this proof you speak of.

Exactly….

My box of 3+1 TP5X balls came in last week now just waiting for the season to start but might start out with some other balls first to get the rust gone outside.

But more simulator testing had the TP5X, Left Dash and Chrome Tour with me just kinda rotating between balls every 5 swings or so and just noticed they're all close in a lot of categories and so I guess pick which you like best. But the one stand out for me is right now with the driver the TP5X is topping out just under 175mph ball speed with my low around 168mph for bad strikes which is a good sign that this ball goes for me and I'm not going after it right now I'm just trying to keep swings in play.

Finally got to play yesterday in Ohio.  50* or so.  Had both the TP5 and TP5x with me (the freebies from TM).  I have to say, I was shocked, but was very impressed with the TP5.  Ive always been an 'X' player in Pro V1x or TP5x, but the regular TP5 was really good.  Driver flight was a middle of the road and I was getting them out there 275ish in the cool heavy air, straight as an arrow.  Irons were on par with prior years offerings and performance.  Check on the short game is great, I had to actually start adjust and hit closer to the pin as I was getting great check.  Putting was fine - nothing wrong with the sound or feel for me.

Playing partner on hole 13 commented he loved the sound off the short irons and wedges I was getting with the combo.

I started off the round alternating shots with the 2 offerings.  By the 4th hole I bagged the TP5x and played the rest of the round with the TP5.

First round of 2024 in the books.  40-40.  No warmup (range wasnt open), 50*, and only 2 range sessions in 2024 so far.  Missed a couple putts and the short game, which is usually pretty good for me, wasnt sharp and I left myself some ugly putts for par saves, which I missed.  I will have that sorted out soon enough.

But the TP5 really did perform well for me yesterday.  Very impressed.

imagine how good Nelly Korda would be using a prov1. That pesky 15 yard discrepancy really holding her back…

Yeah, imagine how good Rory, Morikawa, Dustin, and Tommy Fleetwood must be to win with such an inconsistent ball… 🤣

I had the same reaction. I never liked the TP5 (non x) but this one goes and feels great. It really is a panoply of great balls that you can use any day and still get what you want. My problem is every time I hit a new one I have a "eureka" and use it until the next "eureka". They all work great and you can dial in what you want for height, feel and spin. And then just use the next great ball that someone gives  you.....
