There was nothing "cavalier" about how it was handled - and there is NO evidence to support any further action, let alone a DQ.  

 

Frankly, a good example of how it should be handled and Rory dropped where all agreed would be a conservative spot when something closer and different could have been insisted upon.

 

 

 

 

Anytime a conversation is had about “splitting the difference” when regarding a drop I guess my bs meter goes off.

It either hit above the line or it did not. If it did not, you drop the ball where it crossed the line the first time. You do not split the the difference For sake of coming to an agreement.

We heard hovland say it crossed down by the turtles, and then we heard hovland say well if it did cross down by the turtles, it likely crossed where Rory was dropping based on how the that area land jutted out and he was good with that.  It’s right there in the video clip

And you misrepresented what happened because you don't like the player.

 

Nobody could see where it hit, from the tee or from across one or two fairways, hence the conversation.

Regardless of my opinion, which is unanimously declared wrong (I’m okay with that), it seems like with all the money on the line in these big events and knowing that these sort of things seem to happen a lot in certain parts of this course, that they could make a better effort with cameras and tech to show those lines and banks better. 
 

I’m going to enjoy a cloudy south Texas day watching the afternoon coverage and licking my wounds!

You make the best judgement about what actually happened. 

 

If there is >50% likelihood,  in the players mind after any available opinions are weighed, that the ball crossed the red line, then the drop is correct. 

 

The goal is to get it right and not take liberties OR to take unwarranted penalties.
