Course is playing easier than usual compared to recent years, but I like it. Players will have their guard down when the teeth come out this weekend with faster, firmer greens. There will be blood.

Nobody could see where it hit, from the tee or from across one or two fairways, hence the conversation. 

 

 

The only thing I can say is that from the opposite side of the fairway there was a VISIBLE bounce. Looking at the slope where the red line is, I would find it fantastical to believe that it could have hit below the line and kicked up vertically enough to be seen from the opposite side of the fairway. It was too low and too sloped. It would have flown straight left into the water. So to me it MUST have hit above the line. 

 

However trying to figure out exactly where it crossed is difficult... Neither from the tee nor via the camera could you be exactly sure about that. I'm surprised they didn't try to use video to try to confirm Rory was "roughly" in the right spot though. From across the fairway you know pretty darn close distance-wise where it bounced and where it disappeared again, and could have confirmed to Rory those locations to determine a drop point.

I very much agree w/this.  As to Hovland's opinion it crossed "back by the turtles" (couldn't really see how far back that was), this isn't the first time he's disagreed w/a drop at The Players, and I didn't agree with him here.

He just hit a 5 iron with 153 ball speed and flew it 233 yards 20 feet from the pin.  That’s pretty incredible.

ball speeds arent that accurate it is impressive that he had enough spin on it to hold a green from 233 yrds though

It came up in the discussion and after the fact there was no video available to show where the ball hit.
