If you watch the shot go into the hazard, and look at what is in the background on the other side of the water, where he dropped clearly does not match the background of where the ball landed. If the camera zoomed out during all the discussion, one could tell exactly where it went in. No way to know if the drop was an advantage or disadvantage.

Rory's lucky this happened on featured group coverage on ESPN+ with an audience of tens of people, and a broadcast crew beholden to the Tour, rather than on network coverage with someone like Johnny Miller in the booth.  Contrast this with the Tiger drop on 14 at the Players in 2013 when he was in the final group with Casey Wittenberg.

If I hadn't watched Full Swing, I might feel as you do. But in it, he is candid about not dealing with anger issues and tragic events in his life until recently. We're all a work in progress.

Rather than expecting to make a putt, shot, he seems more like he's hoping to do so. (IMO)

Agreed.  Seems like he doesn't have a go-to shot, makes things too overly complicated.

They all AGREED the spot chosen was the "safest" - it's on videotape for crying out loud - a conservative spot was agreed on, not another possibility further up, they were "good" - Rules Official was there and satisfied and made sure everyone was on the same page.  A good discussion which concluded with consensus.

Yes, I am right and the video speaks for itself and a resolution was had and nobody was carping about it - now you're just doing mind reading of the people involved to fit some personal narrative that apparently doesn't include belonging to Rory's fan club.

 

There was nothing "cavalier" about how it was handled - and there is NO evidence to support any further action, let alone a DQ.  

 

Frankly, a good example of how it should be handled and Rory dropped where all agreed would be a conservative spot when something closer and different could have been insisted upon.
