What’s your fairway finder 3w? I need inspiration.

I tried an oldie  on the range that belongs to a mate - of the 30 balls I hit, I missed the 'fairway' 5 times. I swore a lot but in surprise that it was so easy to hit, couldn't believe it

Pity it isn't mine and pity Cobra stopped using the bafflers.

2H, it finds more fairways and is almost as long on well-struck hits

Find a 3-wood with a -0.5 to -1.5" shaft if accuracy is important.

Most modern 3-woods are build longer for overall distance and less about accuracy.

You might also find a 3HL/4W better suits this, OR, you might want a low-lofted 3-wood and play runout. It depends on your conditions.

Alternatively, a 1-hybrid (16-17º) might be your best bet.

BRNR mini driver. 13.5* and 1/2” shorter. It’s not much longer than my tsr2 15* and 15-20 yards shorter than driver but is a million times easier to hit off the tee than the 15*. Seriously my favorite purchase in the last 12 months.

3 Wood's aren't fairway finders anymore. They're built to be driver 2.0's.

I have a 17 degree Ping G410 Hybrid with Tour AD 85 X that doesn't miss fairways and I can still get it out there 250-260. Strong lofted hybrids are the answer.

It’s taken a long time to find one, but I’ve settled on a Titleist TSR3 in the D4 (+.75 degrees) setting.

The spin range is around 3500 rpms, I just find anything around 3000 makes the carry distance very unpredictable and likely to be too close to my driver.

If I really have to hit a fairway, I’m skipping past the 3 and pulling my 5 wood.

3 wood off the tee is for staying short of trouble, not avoiding trouble on the sides.

My current Paradym HL 16.5*, I also have the Paradym 15* TD head, the difference between the two is that the 15* is long and if I miss I tend to push it a bit too much right, the HL is much easier to find the fairway, with almost the same distance of the 15*(higher spin helps me stay in play) the HL gives me more confidence on the tee when I have to find the fairway.

Titleist 15* 915fd (A1 surefit) with Tour AD DI 7s (tipped 3/4” ), hits yardages needed and very versatile. Was fortunate enough to find a new old stock head recently and it immediately replaced predecessor, a TSi2, that simply went too far to be suitable for needs.

I love my 3HL, and just had a Paradym 7w out for the first time yesterday and absolutely LOVE that club as well.  Putting the 5w in my lake place bag and goind Driver, 3HL, 7w for now.

Well welcome to the club, we will have the same top of the bag (D, 3HL, 7W), the 7W has been the best decision I've made for my game, easily has shaved a few strokes per round, good luck and hit them straight.

I agree with many of the posts above, the 3 wood is a  tough spot in pretty much everyone's bag.  If I were looking for a fairway finder, I would go with a 5 wood, 2H, or Utility Iron.  IMO these are better choices for finding the fairway.

I primarily carry a 3 wood to use when I need to move the ball from right to left off the tee.  I find it easier to hit that shot shape with a little bit more loft.  Having said that, I have recently gone to a higher lofted driver and can hit the right to left shape with it, so I am questioning the value of my 3 wood.  I hit it well and I can hit it off the deck, so it will probably stay in my bag for the time being.  I generally don't carry 14 clubs anyway, so having it in the bag in case I need it makes sense......I think? 😁

I’ll throw in another vote for 4w/3hl! Much better dispersion and a lot easier off the deck.

Tour Edge Exotics CB2 or OG T-Mag V-Steel. With modern shafts they will still compete.

PS,

also could throw in a Cally Diablo Octane Pro to the conversation. Seemed to work well for Stenson. Is it coincidence he disappeared after replacing it with something else?

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Short par 4 (especially a dog leg) I’m hitting something that lands soft on a number - give me the 7w Bones!  Quickly becoming my favorite club to hit right now.

Tight par 5 - depending on the length of the hole and the type of trouble (OB, water, woods) hitting running stinger or just sending driver and leaning on my elite punch-out game with my controversial/borderline illegal Xe747 club.

After years of trying I have given up using a 3 wood for "more accuracy" off of the tee.

I can just as  easily miss with a 3 wood.

And it looks like I am not alone:

https://www.golfdigest.com/story/why-you-shouldn-t-hit-3-wood-off-the-tee

I find the "middle child" TaylorMade fairways are always the best for my game.  I guess I'm not alone because Viktor Hovland (PING), Wyndham Clark (TItleist), Hideki Matsuyama (Srixon), Jason Day (Independent), Justin Rose (independent) and countless other non-TM staffers put this club in their 3w spot.

...I'm talking about the Stealth (non-Plus), the M6, the Qi10 (non-Tour).  The middle child "Core" model.

This year Rory and Scottie are choosing the Core model instead of the smaller headed players version of the TM FW.  It's very easy to hit.  I just tossed a quality shaft in my and point and shoot.
