Tiger on Sportscenter with SVP

Anybody see this interview? My ESPN phone app has been pinging with clips of it this morning. Tiger said he can get on the course now but needs time and then somehow believes he can still plat the Masters. Thoughts?

He has earned the right to play. But why show up and potentially embarrass himself?

There is no chance his game will be ready.

It seems cheesy to play just to plug a book. Or (worse) to give the false impression he might play in order to drum up interest in the book.

He'll only play if he's ready, and he'll only play if he feels capable of winning.

Playing, or talking about playing, in the Master's has nothing to do with increasing interest in his book. He respects and loves the game too much to do that.

I thought he was fairly honest with anything, SVP is probably the only guy who could get him close to being transparent

There are no alternates for The Masters. Spots go according to rankings, past winners and those with tournament victories.

It's this mindset that keeps getting Tiger in trouble, that he thinks he can play. Rather than full rest and recuperate he keeps coming back too soon, and keeps hurting himself, costing him season after season.

The first 12 players, including ties, in the previous year's Masters Tournament

The first 4 players, including ties, in the previous year's US Open Championship

The first 4 players, including ties, in the previous year's British Open Championship

Pretty sure Jeff Knox is the only guy waiting to come off the bench for The Masters.

he's not playing in the masters. All he's doing right now is drumming up buzz so his book sells more.

If that is his mindset, I disagree.

He should realize that his game is nowhere near in shape to win and not put that sort of pressure on himself because tension is going to really mess up his game and even could mess with his back/health.

He needs to set far more reasonable goals than be thinking "Im here to win" on Thursday morning. Hit the fairway, shoot par, make the cut. Get *some* semblance of consistency and flow to his game. Gotta build back up.

Hopefully, he realizes that most have nowhere near the expectations for his game as they had even a few years ago.

They have occasionally offered a special invites. Ryo Ishikawa got one, I think.

It was somewhat expected they'd do it for Ernie Els a few years ago when he slipped out of the top 50, but they didn't. So he missed that year (but got back into the field for the next 5 by winning the Open).

Watched the interview and with regards to him playing it seemed he tried very hard to say he wasn't going to play the masters without saying "I won't be playing this year"

Thought it was a great interview. There is a way to ask Tiger questions where he'll open up and SVP is one of the best at it.
