Driver Fitting Booked for Monday - Anything I should Try??

tigerfan23

Recommended Posts

I play a 2017 M2 with a Tour AD DI 6 and probably had the best driving season of my life (Ping G10 with a Blueboard was up there too!)

I have a fitting booked on Monday. Planning on Trying the M3 M4 Cobra F8 and Ping G stiff. Might give the Rogue a shot but hate the colour and wasn;t crazy about the Epic.

My SS is way down form before it's about 106 ish and usually play a high draw with the Driver.....

If anything Beats my current combo that is stock im walking out of the store with it.

You are better than me, but I was fit this week and loved the Ping Max. The Rogue and F8 feel and sound spectacular. Really thought I was going to walk out with one of them. We were just about done and trying to decide between the two when I asked about the Max. SUPER consistent. My swing speed is slower (90-92) but all three were great. I probably liked the F8 a smidge more than the Rogue but I would have been happy with any of those three.

I did not like the M3 or 4 at all. Same for the Mizuno. Have fun and good luck.

Rogue sub zero is the only thing I’ve see I would buy. Maybe g400. But haven’t hit one yet.

I think you should go in totally open. Tell the fitter you want what works best. If he/she is a good fitter then he/she should be able to fit you into what works best. I think if you try not to have preconceived notions of what you want, you just may be surprised by what gives you the best numbers.

I always hit Ping, TMAG and Callaway no matter what.

Ping drivers for me aren't always the longest but tend to win out on the course where accuracy is more important then a trackman. My general rule is if a Ping is within a few yards of whatever, buy the Ping

I hit a couple of Ping G400 Max drivers today and, frankly, I have never hit a driver so well - and I've hit a lot of drivers this past year or so. Will be probably dropping the dough to get one after next pay check. I didn't like the Epic drivers when I hit them. Was talking with a few guys in the shop today about a fitting I had about a year ago when the best-performing driver of the bunch (last year's models) was the XR 16. That driver has flown under the radar but it's a legit bomber. I think a lot of shops don't even carry it anymore.

I prefer to purchase if I can hit outside and see the ball flight and aim at real targets. If it is indoor, it is really just for fun and I put a lot less stock in it. If I like how a driver looks at address and feels, I will go with it over one that has numbers a little better. Dispersion is my big key. If it is difficult to hit the fairway, it’s out.

I also say pay attention to who the fitter is. Some are really knowledgeable and others have been trained to read a machine and sell, the golf equivalent of the “mechanics” at a 10-minute oil change.

outside on trackman using Pro V...

I refuse to even hit a driver indoors - waste of time for me.

The fitter is excellent. Hes done my iron fitting a few months ago and knows his stuff.

Im pumped

Sorry to be that guy but why change if you just had the best driving season?

if something is better why not..

The swing is 95% of it.

There is a reason the pro’s don’t change very often. Also I would have to disagree about the swing part, I would say the swing matched to the driver and shaft.

In reality there is what maybe 5-8 yards difference between 5 yr old drivers and the current lineup? If distance is your main priority cool. If it’s accuracy, make sure you check it against your numbers for the current driver.

Look at it like Tiger said about the M4. Something about during testing he loved it and wanted to put it in the bag but needed to see how it really played, when on the course things are a lot different than in a fitting.

Still to this day I wish I had never let my old Cobra ZL Encore w/ a Motore Speeder go. Not the longest i’ve Hit but matched my swing very well and was a fairway finder.

EDIT... that said good luck and not trying to talk you out of it, just trying to say make sure it is justified. Most fitters will try and sell you something even if it doesn’t make a difference numbers wise.

So I left late and family stuff happened so i missed my fitting time...

But I ended up trying a ton of drivers today...

Currently play a 2017 M2 with a tour ad di 6.

Ping G400 max - was Just Ok - Ping Drivers to me have felt kinda cheap since the G20. The ball went straight but wasn't crazy about the feel or the looks or the looks at address.

Meh

M3 - Looked a litte bit different at address - the twist face looked a bit off. But this thing striaght up bombed and the forgiveness was off the charts. Tried with White and Blue Shaft and with my tour Ad Di shaft - best results with the Tensi White shaft with Weights near the back.

M4 - Looked and Felt like a low quality driver. The sound was bad and the feel was bad. The head felt light and I had wild results with this. Didn't like it at all.

Rogue - Meh some decent shots but did not feel like the most expensive driver in the test - I hit a few massive hooks with it and didn't hook another shot with the other drivers.

Cobra F8 - Another flat out bomber - Feel was amazing and it looks so sharp.

That's all i hit. I am going to purchase a M3 with the Tensi White Shaft.

@@@@@@

Hit a few fairway woods as well and the M3 was the cream of the crop again. Going to get a 15 Deg 3 wood set to slightly higher 15.75 ish with the weight in the heel.

Funny the stock blue shaft was only 60 something grams and it felt fine and stable. usually play high 60s in driver and high 70s in fairway - today i hit the opposite and they felt great.

Looks like the M3 Driver and 3 wood will be in the bag.

Didn't have the time or energy to hit any hybrids.

I was going to say F8. I hit that thing today and it feels incredibly good off that face. Seems pretty forgiving and keeps up with everything else easily. I just don't know about that Optimus Prime crown.... Other than that, it may be better than the LTD, and I love the LTD. Good news is, Cobra driver prices become very appealing, very quickly. Good luck with the M3, I found it to feel a bit harsh but I can see how it is a performer.

My advice is just to keep an open mind. The launch monitor is important but not the end all be all. Trust the 4 most important tools you have, your hands and your eyes. Look and feel are just as if not more important as monitor numbers. If it looks good and feels good to you, chances are it will give you confidence.

I play M2 and tried a few of them, the G400 is pretty meh, I didn't like all the ribs and bumps and stuff in particular. The F8 is a serious driver, that thing was cranking it out there. M3/M4 were spectacular for me. Set up to the ball perfectly for my eye

When I’m getting fitted, I don’t like to know things about the equipment ahead of time. So, if the fitter throws in a different shaft, I don’t want to know anything about the flex, kick points, etc. That way, my own personal biases don’t take over and change my swing. Case in point. I was getting fitted for a driver and the fitter put in a shaft and told me that the shaft is suited towards aggressive swings. As a result, I found myself over swinging.

You had the best driving season of your life and you're looking to change your driver? I'll never understand WRX sometimes...

Sorry to be that guy but why change if you just had the best driving season?

The swing is 95% of it.

It's your money and your game, but change is not always better. It might look better on an LM, but it might not work out on the course. Then you're out a few hundred bucks and you might get barely noticeable gains in performance. C'est la vie....
