What's Your Longest Streak w/o Shanking It?

A few weeks? Months? Years? I'm curious to hear others experiences.

On the golf course, specifically? Or do shanks on the range count? I honestly remember vividly the last time I shanked it on the golf course (second shot on the first hole at Ancil Hoffman GC after a poor drive, trying out a new swing thought which I quickly abandoned). That had to be three or four years ago. Not that I'm some great golfer (your handicap is much lower than mine), but it's just not something I tend to do often on the golf course. My miss tends to be more towards the toe with the irons.

On the range, though, it can happen to me every so often. I tend to get crossed up when I see the lines of the mat. My body wants to line up square to the mat, but my eyes are trying to hit a flag or some other target down the range and my body becomes horribly misaligned. When that happens, it's el shank-o.

Certainly years, perhaps decades. I can't remember the last time a hit a lateral.

Enough to tell me I have strong shank genes and I'll never get rid of them. I don't think I've gone more than a month without it popping up in 11 years of playing. It sticks around at least a day and more times than not it's at least a week. Current stretch is 2+ months of nearly everyday outright shanking it and multiple heel misses. I've even debated playing a bag full of hybrids to help mask it. Thousands of dollars in lessons, practicing most days of the week has not gotten rid of them that's for sure.

Last time I was on a range I hit a couple... good for $hit talkin with the guys lol

Maybe a season. I think i have a season without one in an actual round. I play 50-70 rounds in a year so its possible

I usually have one about every 3 - 5 years.

I remember when I was 25 or so, I got them on the range and just hoseled ball after ball after ball. LOL. Crazy.

I do like Theegala and shank two or three in front of people with money

On the course, years, I mishit it quite a bit but a true shank is very rare. Granted I have one this year so the counter has reset, lol.

On the range, I had a spell of them over a week or two years ago and again this year.

On month #2 of that one happening. Now you see why I was sending you messages about gaming an entire bag of hybrids

I've developed a shank as of about 2 weeks ago... i've played 2 rounds with them and im terrified to stand over an iron

A couple of years until I tried a new swing then it was shank city...I quickly abandoned the so called new swing.

First hole of a playoff for the club championship 2 years ago LOL. Nerves got me hard and fast on that one.

I'm up in Canada and its not uncommon to go five months without hitting golf balls so I usually have a few the first month of the season.

I have had some serious bouts of shanking in the past and I probably hit one or two per round now. To clarify this, it is my observation that golfers hit far more shanks then they realize. A lot of shots that come up short right for a right hander are way up on the neck catching just a little bit of hosel and that is the type I am referring to. I also hit a real serious hosel rocket while practicing every once in a while but have not hit one those the course for some time. knock on wood. LOL I suppose that my definition of shank might not agree with most peoples. One thing that I have observed is that guys who hit the partial shank and think that they left the face open will pull the heck out of the next solid shot that they hit. LOL I did that many times in the past before I realized what was really happening on the short right shot. So I would guess that if your shot pattern happens to be towards the neck you are hitting a lot of partial shanks for every hard serious one and you are pulling a good number of solid shots. Of course if you hit em all in the middle of the face all the time then that is great and I wish I could do that!

Been years since I had a shank from a full shot.

Sadly the last few years I tend to shank pitches and flop shots all too often.

I was working with a well-known tour pro and well-known former coach of Tiger. It was indoors hitting out to the range. I picked up a wedge during a lull and shanked a ball off the carpet, not the mat.

Twice.

I'm no slouch of a player, but that was embarrassing. Never done it before or since.

Probably took close to 40 years before getting one on the course. Range more frequently because I'm always experimenting.

I shanked one on the range earlier this week. First shank in about 25 years. Granted, it was a Hogan Apex II 2-iron..... old timers will understand.

Gone a long time without a shank but just as bad are the hundreds of chunks and skulls in that time. A shank is so out of the blue it's funny when it happens, unlike them other two evils of golf.

Sorry! They're chronic for me so I was trying to find out if others struggle with the fear of them over most shots. I should clarify that I just end up necking a lot of shots on the course, not full on shanking them. Hitting it off the neck produces the same fear though.

if you have a fear repeatedly nag itself over and over before you hit shots, you need a lesson to help come up with swingthoughts to lessen the issue imo. That’s not ok

Are you talking about a wedge pic from a WITB where the mark was way out on the toe? I doubt he hits it that far off the toe all the time. Wedges I can see, but I don't see it with a 4i.
