Is Matt Wolff the longest now of top golfers?

I watched some of the Juno Beach, FL (Seminole course) 4 some. He was out there with 2 of the biggest bombers in DJ and Rory and he looked quite a bit longer.

If he's hitting high launch low spin draws, I'm sure he's up there, but there's probably at least dozen guys who can bring more ball speed than him. I've seen videos of Tony Finau hitting 200mph ball speed. Cameron Champ can routinely hit 190 while playing a Tour event. They just don't always use "optimized" launch numbers... Champ likes to hit a squeeze fade for control.

Yeah was going to say, from what I’ve seen, 1,2 is Finau (full swing he’d be a regional LD winner), Champ. Then I’d say a small handful of non-top name guys, then you get to the Wolff/DJ/Rory/Bruce tier.

Speaking as an old guy, these guys just p$$$ me off.

Tour stats say it's Bryson.

Finau doing what he does with a half swing, and knowing that he's got the other gear in the chamber, is frightening.

Let's revisit this when Wolff is one of the top players in the game.

Not so fast. We haven't seen if he can keep it in the ballpark with his "new" swing. Let's see what happens when he plays on a course that requires straighter driving. 48" driver be damned.

If Bryson swings as hard as he has on Trackman during the last few weeks, he will be the longest

I’d take Champ over Wolff all day when it comes to being a long baller. Bryson has become something of a freak show but I am sceptical as to how sustainable this all is. Sure he is bulked up but it all seems way too quick and whilst the muscles will have become stronger the tendons, ligaments and joints need longer to catch up, I can see it all going horribly wrong for him.

Dont forget Bryson. He is all in on the power play.

Well, he does have a win on the PGA tour.. That is pretty top to me.

Yup, I think I saw him make a few posts online with 200mph ball speed as well.

at the match Wolff was longer on the contest holes but he was hitting pulls which tend to go farther. On the first long drive hole, Rory's went way up in the air and fairly straight and didn't roll at all. Wolff hit a lower pull that ran forever. These three are generally all about the same give or take.

I agree that Champ is probably the longest but he is also the one dealing with injury, not Bryson. Time will tell but for the moment Bryson is doing just fine.

Forget how long he is, it's just crazy how good he is already!

Neither Champ nor Wolf are one of the top players in the game, at least at the PGA tour level. They both hit the ball far though......

Let’s see where he finishes the season... I don’t doubt that Bryson has made some serious gains I just wonder how they will stack up over a season. He has 15mph on average to catch up on Champ’s ball speed average from last year. That is a heck of a jump to sustain. It will definitely be interesting.

It depends how much you want to show off with your stats, as shown by Bryson bulking up and boasting about it and then proceeding to hit every shot as hard as he possibly can. You compare that to Gary Woodland, who seems to be holding about 20% back all the time. If driving distance was the only point of the game, I'd fancy Woodland to be up there but once you comfortably hit it over 300 you're far enough.

Same with Dustin Johnson, in 2007 he hits 309 yards, this year he's on 308, last year 312. But that's because he's playing a fade to hit a few more fairways, his end goal is to play the best golf, not hit it the longest.

Long story short, we don't really know who is longest and we put too much attention into it.

Odd tangential question but, is everyone else getting blank screened when you try to look at any of this season's Radar numbers on PGATour Stats?

Same boat for me, it was the same yesterday as well.

It's been that way all of 2020 for me. I was hoping that maybe they had some time to catch up with all of The 'Rona downtime and no tournaments. I'm a big time numbers nerd, and those Radar stats are probably my favorite of the ones they provide.
