Rory or Jordan

Hard to argue with the Spieth consensus, The Open win was crucial for that though because if he blows it to Kuchar, that's two blow ups in majors and serious questions about his mental game in majors. That also narrowed the gap to just 1 major, and Spieth is 4 years younger. He could go on a 4-year drought like Rory but it's hard to see it, especially when he's not even playing that well this year, and he still nearly won the Masters with a final round extravaganza.

Rory seems as though he’s more content to let his talent get him through rough patches, whereas Jordan seems like he’s willing to put in alot of effort to fix things wrong with his game when he’s struggling. Although he’s won plenty since, I feel like Rory was a better player when he was with Titleist compared to Nike. I think his success has gone to his head along with off the course things(getting married). Just like Tiger only cares about winning majors, Rory seems to only care about the grand slam. I wouldn’t be surprised if he retired the day after getting a green jacket. Out of the two, I’d pick Jordan to be the one who’d reach #1 again over Rory. Rory is one of my favorite players I still like him more than Jordan when it comes to watching golf. Hands down my favorite swing in the history of the game.

Jordan because he has more secret sauce. The guy regularly puts great chances to win and is a closer. Remember what he did this past April? His game elevates at majors. Jordan was born to win.

Looks like Spieth at the moment but let's wait until today's round. Rory is 4 back, which is fewer shots than both Harrington and Lawrie were after 54 holes when they won...

Today is a great opportunity for Rory. If he can come from behind, he will burnish his legacy.

Not going to happen. his swing looks choppy, and so does his putting. He moves his head up and down to much, which is something that tiger used to do, but is not doing this weekend.

Rory looks like he slaps his putts. It sure isn't a pretty stroke.

Spieth will have a vastly better career and it won't even be close.

After watching Rory come back towards the top of the leaderboard today, I wouldn't be so sure of that.

He tries not to express the fact, but there is still a little fire in his belly.

looking at the way both Rory and Jordan struggled today, the statement that Rory has no fire and cant grind a round out is so wrong. Whether Jordan just had a bad day(probably) or just couldnt be bothered (very unlikley). however Jordan didnt seem any where near as motivated as usual imo

Absolutely. All this talk of Spieths bad day. 1 bomb putt by Rory is all we saw of him. The chilly dipper wedge on 18 told the tale.

That's because NBC's coverage was terrible ;)

It's interesting to me how people ascribe mental states of mind to areas of the game. For example, if you're a bomber off the tee with a great swing but struggle putting then you're mentally weak or don't want it. If you struggle off the tee but are a great putter you're mentally tough and a winner. Putting is a skill just like driving is a skill. You can have a mental block off the tee and on the green. These narratives are really silly.

Lol. So because I think Spieth will have the superior career I "hate" McIlroy?

You must be a teenage girl.

I've been saying for a long time that McIlroy won't win another major and I stand by that despite another T10 for him today. He's too mentally fragile though undoubtedly talented.

Spieth was out of sorts today which happens to everyone. Can't read anything into it and look how he's bounced back from disappointment in majors before. He still has that x-factor and competitive fire like no-one else in the game right now. He's a force of nature.

Spieth is 24 now, with:

3 Majors, 8 PGA Tour wins (excl majors)

When Rory was 25:

4 Majors, 6 PGA Tour wins (excl majors), 5 Euro Tour wins (excl majors)

In the next year, Spieth would have to win another major, and at least 3 more other tournaments to be where Rory was same time.

The point I am trying to make, is that it is next to impossible to know how Spieth will go 2/3/4/5/ years from now.

We thought Rory would have won 10 by now.

There are too many Sharmas/Champs/Scauffeles/Kims/etc out there.

This was Jordan's last golf tournament as a 24 year old. A year he can't wait to see the back of professionally.

If I had posted last year at this time that Rory would have more PGA Tour wins in the next calendar year than Jordan, I would have been sent off to yet another mental institution.

All the things being said here about Rory could also be said about DJ. Seems to lack that grind out effort, mental game not there consistently, needs a better caddie, putter disappears at times. Only difference is he has Butch to kick him in the butt every now and then. DJ was 5 over on the 18th hole in two rounds to miss the cut by a stroke. That would never happen to Nicklaus or Tiger. Some of these Bomb and Gouge guys are seen to be inferior when the game is played differently now, except in the Majors.
