New 2020 Callaway Chromesoft

I'm not rewarding them as much as I'm just playing the game and buying a ball to support my golf addiction that we all have. Equipment in general have been climbing up up up in price. From tees to balls to drivers and apparel and everything.

So the ball is $1 - $2 cheaper than ProV1 but, in my opinion, Chromesoft appeals to so much more people and customers. Truvis pattern, as I'm sure you're aware, has been boomed into a huge thing along with triple track which could get new colors / customizable options soon too.

Callaway will get their money back and I'm sure in short time after all of this Covid-19 stuff.

bridgestone and Tm have been steady at the $44.99 as has the Prov1 at $47.99. With all the changes that have come over the years titleist has been able to keep the price the same for decades. It would be a surprise to see titleist up the price. Bridgstone and TM are trying to get market share and know people were buying CS because until last year it was a “good” ball and was cheaper than Prov1. Now that CS is same as Prov1 Tm and Bridgestone have the chance to be the good ball that’s cheaper than Prov1 and cs.

It will be interesting to see how sales look this year once things get back to normal. Does Callaway lose market share due to price increase and the customers not trusting them after last year. If they do who gets that share. Is it titleist adding to their dominance. Does titleist stay about the same and Srixon, tm and Bridgestone take what Callaway loses or does one of them take it all while the other two stay the same

Any comparison on the old CS to the new? I love the old CS and still have about a dozen of the Stars and Stripes version left.

Does the new version play any better?

No numbers to compare as I haven't put them on an LM or anything but, feel is very very similar to the last gen on each design. Maybe a hair higher compression on each. Durability is the same if not a bit better. If I were you, i'd just play the previous version for now. They might be a tad softer than the new gen and the new gen seemed to cut through the air a bit better.

That's likely what I'll be doing. I've found the prior gen online for $29.99, and if I'm not getting 10+ more yards and holing every putt with the new ball, it doesn't make sense.

The CS TT is an awesome ball in every regard. Plenty long off the tee vs Pro V1 with driver. Stable flight in wind. Plenty of spin off the long irons. With 8i thru LW, the CS hits the green and stops dead. pitches and chips aren’t jumpy like some soft balls. Rather the CS comes off predictably. I’m getting great check on sand shots and pitches. I’m playing more shots at the flag since the ball gives me more confidence to play this way. It took a bit to get distance control dialled in with the putter because the CS is softer than Pro V1. I think my calibration with putter is good now. Can’t wait for summer to see what this ball will do!

While the price increases have been relatively minor over the Pro V1 line’s 20 year existence, Titleist pricing has not remained the same for “decades”. The earliest retail price confirmation I could find was from 2007 so there could have been earlier changes between 2001 and 2006.

2007: $44.99

2009 - 2011: $45.99

2012 - current: $47.99

When the Pro-V1 hit retail in early 2001 they were supposed to be sold @ $39.99/dozen at retail. Of course due to the buzz around them they were sold for more than that. In part due to availability. What's interesting is the Callaway Rule 35 that was released in 2000 (with Callaway licensing Titleist ball patents) were being sold then for $42 for ten balls.

If you want to really get "technical", decades is plural. i.e. MORE than one !!!

The previous TT ? Or the previous Chrome Soft ?

Isn't this Chrome Soft TT the FIRST Chrome Soft TT ?

I was under the impression that the original TT was the ERC ball, i.e. NOT a Chrome Soft.

The original CS version was a lower compression of around The second release was slightly higher which had been the ball Phil had played when CS first came out. The CSX TT when released was about 7% higher than the CS and CSX. This was the version that Phil played last year and wasn’t available when mgs started their testing

These are all the reasons I love the CS, currently playing the Suits Truivs from last year. I tried them as a goof last fall but it turns out I love them. I really dig down with my wedges and the CS does not rip back 20 feet like the TP5x did - it just sort of hits and stops. Looks like they arent making the Suits anymore but when I run out of these, I'll definitely find another CS truvis version to play.

I had no issues with the previous versions of the Chrome Soft and ERC Soft as the number of HIO and my handicap while using those balls can attest. However, this 2020 version is the best yet! A little firmer in feel than the previous version, definitely longer and some really great spin with the irons and on chips and pitches around the green.

I have several rounds under my belt with the 2020 CS TT ball. It’s a darn good ball for my sub 105 MPH driver CHS. I find it to be plenty long, as accurate as any other ball I have played and offers loads of short game spin. Durability is on par or better than Pro V1. TT has helped my putting alignment too.

I’d like to try the CSx when it’s released however I so satisfied with the CS, I can live quite happily without giving it a go.
