I think everyone would be happy, if she did win the tournament..

Has this happened before? An Invite winning a tournament..

I hope she does well.

If memory serves (always a shaky proposition), Brooke Henderson did that when she was trying to play her way onto the LPGA as a 17 year old.

Brooke Monday qualified and won 2015 Cambia Portland Classic; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland_Classic.

Was watching last night. Is it me or do none of them look like they are having any fun out there at all. Maybe its just because its an early round or something. But they all looked so robotic. Where's the big gal with the kangol on backwards when you need her.

1/2 of the LPGA pros are pretty chilled during play and chit chatting walking up the fairway and/or on the tee block waiting....we just don't see it being shown much during coverage.

The big gal, Christina Kim is playing...but she doesn't contend much....therefore she gets minimal coverage.

Well, this field looks very similar to Thailand's. All around great and lots of possibilities. A lot of names I'm really not used to seeing on the alternates list, wish they could play too. Who could say no to Ai or Xi Yu? This is such a big tournament, is there ever any thought of expanding the size? I don't know how these things work or all the regulations

Yes far more exciting players I would rather see playing here than MW. I just can't see why she deserves an invite here her best finish is a T9... in her freak year! all other results have been appalling at least Ai has won this tournament. It's shame the sponsors have this misguided idea that people want to see the RR # 179 based on some perceived popularity above more talented players. I guess this photo says it all about what this tournament is all about for her being able to promote brand Wie.

You were saying?

Good thing you've actually never seen any of the marketing you speak of. To the general public she is still the most recognizable figure in women's golf.

One thing about MW. Most players you only get to see if they're leading. But Michelle we always get to see how things are going with her, rain or shine. This annoys some watchers (which I totally get, especially when you don't get to see so many others!) but it does have this effect of following her story. After following it for so long, I do care about what happens with her, and want her to be happy.

Also, she seems to use her star power benignly. There are some people I wouldn't trust with that, they'd use it like a club. But by accounts she's still good.

She's had a strange journey with both bigger positives and bigger negatives than most people will ever get.

Wie's swing is looking really good.

I watched her tee shot (iron shot) on the par 3 17th several times, just looked really simple, solid, clean.

Awesome leaderboard, should be a great weekend.

I have no idea who you are please so let me know how you know what I have seen or not seen...If your going to make a counter statement please now back it up with statistics from a verifiable source or else I still believe it's unjustifiable media hype that MW enjoys. I just feel sorry whatever the result here for all the players who on performance during the last 2 years should be invited here before her. It's a shame sponsors have to lower themselves to inviting celebrities over players who have put in the hard work to get their ranking up into the top 100 but just fail to qualify for these limited field events.

My friends were in MWs group today - they described her as 'special'

I'm going on Sunday - quite looking forward to seeing the Tanjong Course, I've played Serapong quite a few times and absolutely love it.

Kudos to Michelle, still hanging in there..

A ball striking clinic from Inbee, has she had some time off?? Ariya and Brooke were well past her off the tee all day but more often than not Inbee was putting last..

Nice to see Brooke can get her driver past Ariya's 3 wood, sometimes....

Still a great leaderboard, Great to see MJ up there, keep it going!

If the conditions stay similar I have a feeling someone is going to shoot a 62 or less tomorrow and blow this thing up, I just can't pick which of about 15 players that's going to be..

Lol. Inbee makes it looks so easy. Ho hum. 'Haven't played in 7 months. Let's go out and show the others how it's done.

It's definitely shaping up to be a great weekend with 15 players within 4 shots.

I do like watching Inbee play.. She is different than other players.. When you watch her, she seems like an executive playing golf and others are hackers..

No crying or complaining.. Just Play the game..

I remember watching her hitting 2 or 3 balls in the water, it didn't phase her much..

Just curious which players you feel deserve to be there? If they did not qualify they do not "deserve" to be there either. Limited field event and the sponsor wants the most bang for the buck. Like it or not- deserve it or not- Wie supplies that star power

Heck, Tiger has far less chance of competing these days than MW does. And his every move is shown. It's all about who the viewers want to see, and on an LPGA broadcast, MW is still one of the most recognizable. She's tall and attractive and has been a prominent figure in women's golf since she was young, if I'm a tournament sponsor of course I want her there.

And I hope she hangs in there til the very end.

By the way, where is Gerina?

Million dollar question will be whether Wie can string 4 good rounds together. I sure hope so, would really like to see her slough off her "tinkering/Parent/health issues/etc." skin and re-emerge as a regular contender.

Yes, she played last week in Thailand. A T59 finish. She's stumbling out of the gate this season.

Ooh. Lately she's been in contention most of the tournaments she's played. When I never saw her on the coverageI thought she probably wasn't there.

Maybe that's the best way for her to get the first win. Sneak in good round on day three to get within shouting distance and then post something low in the final round and have it stand. She just doesn't seem to play well on Sunday when she's close to the top.

Really happy to see Susan Pettersen up there. She's amazing to watch in person. Most players walk the course. She stalks her prey--Pettersen is practically leonine that way. Helen Alfredsson stalked the same way.

It looks like her and her caddie had a difference of opinion after her bogey on 17.

I'm sure there was some flowery Norwegian speech under her breath! :)
