It just me or are a lot of pros switching to Nippon Iron Shafts?

I've been gaming the 130x in my Cobra King Pro irons for about 3 months or so now. I honestly can not speak to how great these shafts are. I have been a C-Taper guy for just about the entirety of my golfing life - I had messed around with the modus plenty before making the switch and knew what I was getting. However, everyone on here always talks about the 130 being the the higher launching shaft in the line, which had me a bit hesitant to make that move. That being said these things are SIGNIFICANTLY more penetrating than the C-Tapers with oodles more feel. No problem at all launching it, but I am just totally impressed with how much my iron play has improved in terms of flighting and trajectory control. Just wanted to add this to the thread for those wavering on the 130 because of the fear of them being the "high launching" shaft.

Wholeheartedly agreed on the 130's

one question I had was view on using them through the 52 and 58 wedges

did you try the n.s. 125 wedge shaft or ?

thanks

So I actually didn't shaft my wedges until I had played about 10 rounds with the 130's in my irons. Once I saw the ability to flight the ball and that they were not in fact the "high launch" shaft that I been concerned they might be I had zero reservations putting them in my wedges. I also was weary of using wedge flex shafts as I really enjoyed the feel of the 130X and wanted the keep the continuity throughout.

I had previously used DG TI 100X in my wedges, and I prefer the feel/performance of the Modus 130X in the wedges by a wide margin. The most noticeable distinction is the feel on the tweener shots. I only play PW 52 58, so I have a hand full of these every round and the smooth feel of the Modus just seems to work for me. s

Hi guys I need your input on a shaft selection.

Infos on me: 2hdcp, draw tendency, play my clubs -1/2" (37" 6 iron), late releaser, little divots, prefer shafts at 115g max.

I'm a Px guy (6.0 at the moment), but with a slow swingspeed for this shaft (86mpH for 6 iron) and I feel I have to make a perfect swing to use them (really tight dispersion, great distance, but I have to commit 100% to the shot).

I want to try something easier to play, especially under pressure, at the end of the rounds or when I'm not at my top capacity.

I tried a X100 SL and my swing speed jumped at 89mph effortlessly.

But I feel them really harsh.

In the past I tried modus:

120S, it was a total mess: fantastic distance (1 club longer) but 5 to 15yds right all the time.

120X, seems better but I'm not in love.

125S, found it heavy feeling and cumbersome, like a S300.

130S, maybe a tad too stiff and the counterbalance will produce a too heavy club.

Proto 2T15, my best shaft ever, the perfect shaft for me ! Fantastic distance, ultra tight dispersion, I regret selling them, but I needed some money .

Do you have something to suggest ? 105 stiff ?

I really need your expertise here !

Thanks for you help,

Arnaud

Anyone know the cheapest place to pick up a set of 130x shafts? ebay? Saw you can get a set on tourspecgolf. Thinking I may just reshaft my current set of MB's until I find my next love affair.

sticks n stones golf on ebay usually has cheap/new sets. was about to buy my 105x through them but found a better deal with grips from a WTB ad i put out.

Thanks for the info! I was going to start with the WTB route first as well in hopes I can get grips included. I checked a couple places today and they all charge $16 a club for reshafting. I wanted to keep the reshafting total cost under $300 if I could. Otherwise, it doesn't seem worth it.

Wanted to hold of on new irons until fall when everything is out.

yeah my local shop wants to charge about $20/club to pull, save grips and re-shaft. i said screw it and did it myself. it's actually not that hard. i've been doing my own re-gripping for years now so that's cake.

I've been fitted to c taper Stiff..... didn't have the Nippon line to try. Can anyone recommend a similar profile that'd match with the c taper ??

Doesn't really exist. C Taper is a pretty unique shaft. I guess 120 would be closest but I hate the 120 and really like C taper for whatever that's worth. Probably not worth much.

Shafts are so personal. People say C tapers are "boardy" and "harsh" but Once I hit them that never made sense to me.

I agree - I played C Taper 130X for the longest time. I used to think they were incredibly smooth feeling. That being said they are a different being than the Modus.

If you're swiping from CT to Modus you shouldn't be looking for something to replicate the C Tapers, otherwise just stay with what you got. I made the switch b/c the Modus seemed to produce a much more penetrating flight believe it or not, and they felt easier to swing to me. I've noticed my iron play is much better throughout the course of 18 holes because of this.

Those do look interesting, but I wonder how they'll wear over time? It's just paint. I got a black onyx S400 last summer and it Chips like crazy.

It's a shame. It looks sweet.

I think I am going to go 105x vs 130s

Been testing 8i and 5i for a month

Flip flopped a few times

105x feels smoother

More repeatable

Holds off left better

i did the same test, 105x and 105s hs1x vs the 130s and the 105 s won. The 130 went a little too high for me in the wind, but both are great and way better then the 120

How durable are these irons shafts? I will not play KBS because of how easily they bend near the hosel. Wonder if there is anything similar happening with these.

I have played a lot of Nippon shafts and never bent a single one. And I'm not babying them.

EVERY set of KBS that I have tried, the tips bent.
