Blade users thread (NO DEBATING CLUBHEADS! NO Buy Sell Trade!)

Had a good session at the range today. Still lots to work on, but I know what move I should be making now, so it's just a question of getting it into a reasonably repeatable pattern. It's nice to get that feeling of a pure strike back. It's funny, because with all my swing problems I've been having these past few months I've learnt just how unforgivable blades can be...but at the same time it thanks to them I know what I'm doing right. To put it another way, not every strike in the middle of the club is the same. In particular, if I don't compress it, it doesn't feel as sweet, and it doesn't go as far.

So, so nice to get the feeling of a good strike back.

It really is compressing the ball that’s so addictive and doubly so with blades. I hate it when I lose that and love it when I refund it! So, yeah, I believe you when you say ‘nice to get the feeling ... back.’

I was lucky enough to know the Titleist rep for my state in 2001-02 and she was able to get me one of the few Sets of Titleist 681's that were allocated to our state. the first run of the 681's were very limited, they later expanded the run and came out with the T- Stamp ones as well. Here we are in 2018 and I still play the 681's to this day, currently on my 5th set since then. Still own all 5. I have experimented with other irons for a short time. TaylorMade RAC TP's lasted a couple of months, which was the longest the 681's were out of my bag. Important to mention I did give up golf for 5 or so years in this span as well... But the Titleist 681 iron head is the best head I have come across, not just feel or performance wise but the quality control on these sets was truly amazing. I take each set of irons apart when I get them and weight the heads and put my shafts in them... there is hardly any difference in the head weights from set to set or club to club. The two 681 sets that I got NEW, one from Titleist and the other from a seller who never took them out of the box, the lofts and lies were dead on the money. These truly were titleist's best item to date IMO!. When you find a product like these, it becomes hard to believe or trust anything else. These irons perform like I want them to and as long as I can keep finding sets in good to excellent condition, I will continue to play them. Needless to say I no longer have the back flexibility to still play the 2 or 3 Irons tho! :taunt: :taunt: :taunt:

681's are righteous..........love my set. Them and the Mac-Cobra's get down time because I want them nice for a long time. Accurate and long. The long irons are of the best ever used.

Love it!!!! yeah Before I had back issues I use to be able to hit some unbelievable shots with the long irons in the 681 set... the ball came off the club in an excellent window, they would go high but never balloon up in the air. that's probably what I like most about the 681's is not many shots balloon. They produce a high but penetrating ball flight!

Thanks for all the best wishes guys. Really means a lot! I have been pretty depressed about this. I am a positive and proactive person, but I have teared up a few times from not the pain as much as the helpless feeling of being so not ok and feeling like you won’t be the same ever. Your back just effects everything, I truly empathize with those who have bad back issues, it is a mentally brutal situation. You don’t realize how your entire body as a 2 legged creature is just clipped when it flares up.

I Have an appointment with surgeon on Thursday to further discuss. I truly do not want to have another surgery, but at same time I refuse to take opioids (Not going there, don’t care to see for myself where that road goes, I can take peoples word for it) and I can’t really keep going like this. So we will see. Medical marijuana sounds like a nice alternative but while I have no doubt it would help my golf mental game, I am not sure it would mean much for when my pain is bad.

On my list of things to discuss with surgeon, playing golf is in top 3. From mri, the bulging discs aren’t the issue as much as I have my spine going out of alignment which has some bone on bone and of course both nerves (right and left) are displaced in L4/5 and L5/s1, which would explain the sudden shots of pain. I am reserving judgements until I talk with specialist, but in back of my mind, Tiger woods needed 4 to play again, and I don’t have his means or doctors. We will see. I am optimistic he may tell me the pain is nerves and I can’t hurt my back anymore by playing now or post op, I think that is best case. If he says that I can excellerate damage or hurt more from playing, I think It becomes a very easy yet painfully difficult no brainer.

Also, I was hitting a lot of balls off a mat in the months prior to all this, that is also on my mind.....I have to tell him all of this. I don’t know, I am just trying to not speculate and last surgeon said I could play golf post op, but then again I am really thinking I got a dirty surgery from him, also something to confirm at visit.....

Kingcat, I was going to tell you how gross those epons were, def look like Sutton’s, but the pics of them stripped really grew on me. Maybe Make them black or dark and make their “beauty” more understated? Haha.

Biggie, something to keep in the back of your mind...

Tiger had four surgeries because he was deliberately avoiding the fusion surgery he wound up having as #4, anyway. And we see how that one worked for him. ;)

Biggie, I hope all goes well on Thursday and the long-term solution does not require surgery. I have minor back pains which are all muscular in nature (sorted out with 3 physio sessions) and not a patch on your issues...cannot imagine what you’re going through.

I’ve got fingers and everything else crossed for you. All the best

Good luck Biggie, don't hesitate on 2nd or 3rd opinions and delve into the physical rehab. I'm thinking yoga, swimming and core strengthening. I have minor back issue that is related to posture and non-impact exercises do much to keep issue contained. My brother has a sciatic and bulging disc issue and his strength training helped to alleviate a lot of discomfort. Strengthening core to stabilize things is a solid approach to a murky problem that modern medicine is still a bit in the dark on.

Interesting, I didn’t realize that. That is the exact surgery i am avoiding. I didn’t know that with him.

Yeah, I know the stuff like yoga and all that, but I got the MRI because it is so far past that. The nerve displacement and ligament issues I think re more problematic than the bulging discs and stenosis that I have.

Biggie, man I just hate reading all this. It’s funny how one can care about the fortunes of someone he’s not met in person yet met in a shared passion...

I know nothing about backs and major injury but from what I do understand the skill of the surgeon is a big deal.

Treatment options are like a long second shot over water on a par 5. Lots of risk, lots of reward.

I can relate to the back pain, however not to the severity. Sending happy thoughts. And, being from the Marijuana capital of Canada. I've got to say the products that they come out with nowadays are amazing (the ticture you just spray on your tongue or the more powerful gummies are both out of this world). And the best thing is when you feel like you don't want them, there's no physical or psychological addiction, at least for me. Kicking tobacco was a mind FXXX and I've never experienced anything like it with marijuana.

The faces of the Epons and the old Yamahas are a spitting image, the more I look at them. The curvature of the toe is more severe than anything I have by Miura. One of the prettiest designs in my closet, though a test to play for sure.

I think you're right to avoid opioids, Biggie. It's more important to treat the cause of the issue, and opioids won't do that.

Talk it through with your surgeon, and don't be afraid to get a second or even third opinion. If you do opt for surgery, look around for one with a good reputation.

I have a relative whose back was butchered by an inept surgeon. I got a good one, and I'm doing alright. Big difference.

The surgeon I am seeing tomorrow has been raved about by a few local in field I know, So that is calming.

I am a pro pot guy, haven’t used much since younger, but I have more than a few hundred rounds under my belt with the help of some “mental game” and I stopped on a fine no issue when I started a family, so really in the pain management realm of options, this is only avenue I want to consider, but do fear it won’t touch the pain when it is bad....however 90% of time the pain is manageable by focus detraction and in combo with anti inflammatory pills I think that could be my safest best route, but again not trying to speculate.

Tomorrow is big talk day, I wish I could record his face when I get seriously concerned about golf. All my non medical friends are like “you play so much golf that is why” and I truly believe that it isn’t. Not saying it helped, but This is from a past trauma, and I had some really good summers with my back playing a ton, like when I found you guys through 5 months ago, so maybe it is over optimism, but we will see...

I wanted to post the Sutton Grind pics I had, but it was easier to just buy these. They've got a shaft I really wanted to try out, Modus3 105X - and, they look basically the same as the Suttons, except they don't look to have pins.

You can see the obvious similarities between the Epons posted earlier - toe shape, soles etc.

Back at you Craz-e!!!! I wish you all the best in your endevour.

Christian, as much as I thought I hate me the Sutton’s, modus shafts and some serious double take grip action. That has to be the best set of those in existence today. Like really. I bet the

Modus shafts really modernize the feel of those.

Indeed! I couldn't make a swing with those, I'd be busy focused on that whacky colour scheme :)

Psychedelic grips! Must...have.....

Nice looking irons, as well. Let us know how the Modus 105X works out for you. I'm curious about that shaft as well. I've tried the 120X (OK), 125X (just about playable for me, but it's probably too much shaft for me, vicar), but I've only tried the 105 in S, and that very briefly.

Now those are some sexy irons. WTF is with the golf ball diameter grips? Someone must really get their wrists into their shots. Is it just me? Dude, you gotta throw a caliper on those grips. Those look like they're 30mm in diameter. I had no idea Tommy Bahama made golf grips. Those grips open up a whole new world of ferrule and paint fill.

I just won the bid on those bad boys last night, so no idea what the hell the grips are all about. They kind of go against my whole thing. I like to go for understated and classy, though it's more just keeping quiet, lest I do or say something offensive. Anyway, we'll see how long they stay on...

I do like a big wide grip though. It gets me how every time I go to get a grip put on and ask for 4 or more wraps, the staff always look at me like I'm nuts. I had 6 wraps put on the Modus 120s and they still feel too skinny.

When the grip is nice and big, it slows my hands, so I have to square the club more with my swing. When the grip is skinny, I've got to be more conscious about waiting and it becomes easy to flip the club.

Just got back from a range session with the TN87s. They are such a sweet feeling club. I'm really controlling the mid-irons nicely - trying to stay right of my target ever so slightly and I'm doing it pretty consistently. Distance is pretty good too. Just finding the Modus3 (stiff) get a little loose with the longer irons - the grail might be the 105X. That being said, I don't want to hit any other iron right now, so that is a good sign.

All of the lifting weights and stretching has me able to find great positions. I have more ability to control the sequence, so when I get to the top I can start the down swing with my lower body and maintain lag. My miss is over the top with some draw, but I'm getting it so the ball starts, right of the target, as I said. Really feels nice with the irons, but the driver is really nice now too. Just hammering it. Now, I just have to get out to play.

Won bid, that makes sense.....

Japanese dudes are not like North Americans in terms of stuff like that. Those kinds of grips(well, maybe not that wild but..) are on a much higher percentage of gear over there.

I was bidding on a Hiro putter, had a similar grip. At first I naively assumed that would help me get it becuase it was so whack looking. Then as bids happens I realized how ignorant I was to me being the one with the wrong perception. Not saying the grip drew more bids over there, but it certainly didn’t hurt it haha

That set of sticks I had went around twice without a bid. I was the only bid. Got the whole set for less than two new Modus shafts.
