We can mentally punch a clown ourselves about this for 4 more pages but, at the end of the day, I don't like the perception of the company.

 

Very well written post, but I just can't take someone serious when they propose inflicting mental harm to clowns.

Very sad way to view things, David Mills, Lamont Mann and Byron Morgan are all guys I have personally spoken to over the years, all are very nice guys and doubt are hated by anyone. Not to mention they have probably forgotten more about the art of building a balanced putter by hand mill and hand shaping only "without a CNC program" than this guy knows.

I'm a precision milled fan myself and think Tyson's work is pretty amazing. Can't wait to get my order from him.

 

As far as Tyson being "Brash & Arrogant" it really doesn't bother me one bit. Oh and neither did the Phantom of the Opera...lol

His stuff looks nice, but nothing that immediately stands out from Machine or Bettinardi to me from what I've seen. After reading the MGS article and comments after, kind of turned me off to him a bit.

The only reason anybody doesn't like this guy is that you either A: want one of his putter, but are butt hurt that you can't swing and now decide to vilify him. Or B: you are jealous that he get to live a life selling $1,200 putters and laughing at all of you while he does it.

 

This is Art, it's not function. A blade putter is a blade putter. Many people make very similar styles of putters, but the art and design in each define he biulder and he artist. Art reached the price that it reaches and artists are absolutely entitled to sell the fruit of the labor for whatever price they deem appropriate.

 

Now all of you people who think he has it easy because he uses CNC machines; there is still a lot of design work and industrial work that has to be done to bring a putter out from a solid block of raw steel. You guys all talking s*** are hilarious thinking that you know what it takes to do what this guy does.

 

The putters are amazing, truly unique and functional works of art that go far beyond a CNC machine.

A couple of things I have been dying to say and ask, just gonna let it flow. I don't know Tyson Lamb at all but my first impression of him based on what I have seen written and his interview leads me to believe some neg. things. I have some questions for those who may know him: if he is so busy and selling everything he makes why is his work "putters" not being posted here? Is he an affluenza young man who has that world class equipment through other folks hard work or has he built his business and bought his own equipment?

There's a lot of faith being placed in that mgs article. Having dealt with both parties in the past, mgs isn't above moving some things around to get the story they want instead of the story that's there.

gioguy, I agree with much of what you're saying. But if he's getting his price, what incentive does he have to lower it? He can establish himself as an elite craftsman, then eventually leverage his success into a lower cost/high volume line and proceed that way. I am guessing that could be his long term plan.

 

Also, margins aren't quite clear cut. A car is a car, but there's a lot more mark up on a McLaren than a Mazda.

 

I tend to agree with this. Think putters are his passion/side biz. The other non golf work pays the bills and CNC machines.

 

The article had some good points, but MGS framed it as Scotty vs Tyson to get hits and numbers for there advertisers. Look at the damn title of the article.

 

If you have the means/skill, why not position yourself to go after the person at the top of the industry/game? He knows the model, and it's not pumping out $200-500 "custom...ized" putters.

I'm in love with his putters as much as the next guy and can't wait to try one.

 

But posts like that don't help improve the image of his fans, or the image portrayed of him from the article written about him.

I really do like the putters this kid creates. He has a ton of talent that a lot of us wish we had ourselves!

 

His "stair step sole" seems eerily similar to the "rockersole" that Guerin Rife used in his Guerin line of putters. Also seems to be the same (or similar) sole on the new EVNROLL putters. I have a Guerin Tour Spec mallet and I will say it does seem to sit much more square.
