Except he's a billionaire and he's looking to play his best. As Tiger stated the clubs are not as important as the ball. The ball is the most important part and everything else works around that.

What is interesting about this is that the former #1 player in the world appears to be choosing equipment based upon its effectiveness rather than contractual obligations.

 

So many of the Nike guys have gone to Taylormade drivers and fairway woods, Tiger too supposedly, and now Tiger is endorsing Bridgestone for balls.

 

For golfers who enjoy the equipment side of the game it's fun to see this play out.
