Tiger is playing a Bridgestone ball this week (merged)

Lying about what? I was only stating a satirical opinion. As for what ball he plays, yeah, get a life. Besides, the ball that Tiger uses is not necessarily right for you, I or the rest of the masses.

lol. Guy arguing on the internet, telling others to get a life. Comedy gold right here folks.

I think Tiger expects a very specific reaction from the ball based on the swing and the resulting shot he executes. It makes sense for him to move to a Bridgestone ball since the last two versions of his Nike ball were manufactured by them; ONE Platinum and ONE Tour D. His time with the RZN stuff was pretty limited.

If he is playing the B330S it would not surprise me that this is very similar to the ONE Platinum in performance and feel.

Regardless, I hope he plays to his expectations for this tournament; it will be good to see him tee it up again and get a feel for where his game currently stacks up.

I was really torn about posting in another Tiger thread. I felt that I should do my part to "move the needle" because, you know, nobody moves it like Tiger. But, honestly, I really do not care what ball any pro plays because, frankly, my game is not remotely similar to theirs. (If so, I would be on some tour, somewhere.)

So, go Tiger!! Just remember - If you never win another tournament the rest of your life, you will always win GolfWRX!

No offense to the OP but I don't really care what ball the 879th ranked player in the world is playing. Or #1 for that matter.

Thanks for letting us know how much you don't care about what ball Tiger is using by posting in a thread about what ball Tiger is using.

You're very welcome!

Every time someone does that it reminds me of these scenes.

Playing a new ball is yet a new excuse for short game issues.

Dave, exactly what did Tiger do with a current or former family member of yours?

Over the years I've posted that he is one of, if not THE, most talented player ever to play the game so let's keep this in context. I have immense respect for his talent but not a ton of respect for him on other regards. I'll leave his personal life out of the mix and focus strictly on the professional part. Let's consider some of his excuses for not playing well or withdrawing:

1. My glutes aren't firing.

2. I'm between patterns.

3. I'm vulnerable.

4. This is a different release pattern.

5. I'm going through baseline shifts.

6. We're going to go through the numbers and see what the spin rates are

7. I'm just having a hard time finding the bottom

8. Because of my old pattern, I was so steep

9. It's going to take time to get the feel of my hands where they need to be through the entire swing and shaping shots.

After you play a bad round do you make any of those excuses? Hopefully not. I had a terrible year with the driver in 2016 and my "excuse" was that I sucked hitting a driver. My glutes were fine, I wasn't between patterns, I just was bad with the driver. Period.

Let's not forget he just withdrew from an event where they doubled the number of tickets sold after he announced he was playing and just a few days later, he withdrew and all of the people who bought tickets expecting to see him play his first event in a long time were denied that opportunity. Not sure that refunds were given.

I believe that the game is better off with him competing. More competition and the better competition will only lead to seeing better golf and we all benefit. I hope he shoots lights out this week so all of the Tiger fans have that to hang on to during the off season. I hope he plays early, often and competes in calendar 2017. I hope he's in the mix in every major throughout the year. Seriously. That will lead to great excitement for all of us and great conversations on this site.

If he does play the Bridgestone, anyone think they'll see a large spike in sales?

There won't be in the UK......shame they already pulled out of the UK market. Thought they made a great ball.

Isn't Bridgestone's 330S supposed to be more like the Nike Platinum and the 330 more like the Nike Black?

Have I gotten my marketing hype confused?

Also didn't Bridgestone at one point make balls for Nike? When did they stop? Was it when the "RZN" technology came out?

Far be it to have to defend my friend Dave (I probably don't), but I will tell you that he's the straightest shooter to ever shoot. As a Tiger fan, you have to admit, the excuses are quick. Are they valid, probably. But then again, doubt exists and it's not surprising. When you have such a high profile guy who was so dominant, he probably doesn't want to be embarrassed when he's playing. When you've held the world by the sack for two decades, it's not easy to go humble. He's in the process of doing that and he's won a lot of people over by doing that. Being out for 18 months it raises a lot of hope and doubts.

Being totally honest here, I'm bouncing off the walls excited. I want to see him first, not grab as his back. Second I want to see if he can break par. I have no expectations other than to see him beat the ball around and work to get his game back. As he gets back, I think it's safe to say that a large majority wants him to be healthy and at least be competitive. The dominance is gone, but if he can beat the ball around and maybe win one or two every so often, that would be OK. No one should be rushed into retirement when they still have the ability. But if he's not healthy, that's a whole different conversation. Here's to hoping for a good season, and a healthy one regardless of what sticks he uses.

To play Devils Advocate, #2, 4, 7, and 8 are the same thing just reworded. Everything else is valid though and I agree.

I think the issue comes back to that level of social awkwardness that seems to persist. As charismatic and charming as he can be, he still falls back on a lot of canned "tech speak" without providing any real explanation for what the hell he is talking about and IMO, he'd be better off saying nothing most of the time. The classic "non firing Glutes" comment being the prime example of this. If you're going to say it like that, it needs an explanation, otherwise you just look like a doofus. "Yeah my glutes just weren't firing, that sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Well, when that whole area of your body has been immobilized for as long as mine has for rehab, things don't quite work right immediately and that immobility leads to some stiffness that i'll just need to work out". Instead he talks to everyone like they all know what these phrases like "release patterns" and "baseline shifting" mean and it just comes across as weird excuses when in reality he should just shed a little light on wtf he is actually talking about.

i'm in the same space as TIGER now... start having back issues and ALL of these become relevant. is it the chicken or the egg? ALL of them are relevant. you chase it around - circle the wagon - have a team of people help you...it's so frustrating. especially as an athlete - we compensate so well...do anything to stay in the game and compete. i wish i could properly verbalize this. those who have faced this issue will understand.

*EDIT BELOW*

the emotional / psychological side of things is a HUGE factor too. these types of issue come to the forefront when you are attacking physical pain.

I (a non-psychology trained person) subscribe to the theory that many high performers come up with excuses to keep their ego intact as their ego gives them the confidence to "get it done" at such a high level. Michael Jordan, from what I've read and heard, falls squarely into this camp. The excuses come off as petty, childish, and whiny, but they likely also stave off some of the self-doubt that can be a career killer at that level of play. "It's not me, it's that d-mn spike hole that caused me to miss the putt." If such thinking allows you to hole the putt on the next green and collect $2M, then I understand it. I don't like it, but I understand it.

LOL Dave, your post made me chuckle. But then again these athletes need something to say during these interviews. Sports interviews in general could be some of the dumbest ever.

My new pet peeve is the NFL half-time interviews with coaches as they exit the field.
