Rory to start 2017 with Callaway in the bag!

Recommended Posts

Now that the Nike diver is out and the GBB is in, I will be extremely interested to see the distances Rory puts the golf ball out there.

Probably around the same distance he's hit his Nike driver...it's the Indian not the arrow

I'd offer that bet also :)

There's a reason Nike doesn't make clubs any longer and it's not because the drivers were too good. ;)

I'll take that bet. 186 ballspeed during his rounds multiple times with Nike when they show the trackman stats. They're all maxed out. Only way he gains distance is better launch conditions. If nothing else, all of these reviews have proven to me that ballspeed is maxed, and it's all about finding the right set up for you to get a more consistent center strike

so....who is actually making these things? unless these are going to be released to retail, playing "callaway" irons in this capacity is completely meaningless. furthermore, if he's not going to play an actual callaway iron, doesn't that go against the notion that callaway isn't paying him?

STP posted its the same forging that taylormade uses for DJ and Rose, but I heard they're Nike made with Callaway stamping

Hate to break it to you man...a new golf club isn't gonna magically add 10-15 yards if your driver has already been fitted. Work on your swing and hit the weights

10 yards is a pretty big deal, at any level, I don't care who you are. I won't get into any opinion on Nikes club performance, but if it was that good....everyone and their brother on staff would not have IMMEDIATELY dumped their stuff on tour after the exit. Paul Casey, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, etc., all switched drivers as fast as humanly possible.

How can you tell that the DBD fitting is/was optimal?

Did you have the same AD-TP in your DBD, if not what shaft did you play in it?

I did not test the ad tp in the dbd. I did however start with my fubuki k in the epic and got better numbers right away. The numbers got even better with the ad tp

Perhaps the lack of Callaway wedges and ball signifies that Callaway is not paying him? Just guessing, of course.

Why else would he bag irons that clearly are not Callaway irons, yet still have Callaway markings? Callaway is paying him, of that much I'm pretty certain.

These are Callaways new blades for 2017. They are not paying Rory.

Oh, man you have got to stop injecting truth into this discussion. It is just crushing everyone's preconceived notions of how the world works.

I'm excited that he's trying so many different sets of clubs trying to find what works best! It's so good for the golf industry.

I haven't had the chance to hit the EPIC driver but i've heard great things and can't wait. I saw it back in October and got talking with one of the R&D guys from Callaway. When a guy like that is as excited as he was, you know there's something good there!

The blades are what they are really, nothing new. I read a few posts ago about someone saying "What do you think Callaway is paying him?"...you gotta think its a decent number! There isn't any technology in the irons, in fact they are probably a secondary company that forged the irons with a Callaway stamp. Probably the same company that made his Nike irons.

Sorry, but this is the first I've seen of those clubs. I guess I don't obsess about ever piece of gear every manufacturer is releasing like some on the WRX. Any links you Callaway experts can send regarding these MBs?

Except it's not Rory to Callaway anymore than it was Rory to TaylorMade in the fall. He's not signing a contract, he's tinkering... Nowhere in the article does it say he's signing with Callaway.

if he's playing 12 Callaway clubs. Including an Odyssey putter, and he's genuinely doing so because it's what works best AND they aren't forking over big money for him to do so, isn't that a bigger win for them than if he was merely fulfilling contractual obligations?

I Love Rory and I like Callaway but the irons he's playing no more resemble a Callaway Iron than my Titleist MB's. Profile wise I can't help but think Miura with a V on the back. Huge get for Callaway either way.

Need more photos of that putter. From the appearance in the single photo, I'm hoping Callaway starts building that model for the masses.
