Cameron guys....to game or not to game?

What to do about headcovers. I've got several. Some worth over $150. I'm getting tempted to start gaming. What do you guys do or suggest??

Pick your favorite and use it. Sell the rest.

 

Hint: find a way to like one of the ones that's worth $30 not $150.

If it has been used already, I game it. If it collectible and is 'mint' it is staying that way.

 

I know there are a lot of people that say game everything - and good luck to them - this is just the way I roll. :-)

My personal policy is if I'm willing to buy it I'm willing to play with it. I've got a ton of slightly used Cameron Headcovers in a drawer at home. I don't currently use a Cameron putter so for now they're on the sideline.

The ones that I wanted to use stayed and got used, the others were sold.

Completely agree. That was my point. I love the last look on someone face when they see a rare cover outdoors being used. Same with the Miura irons I'm hitting. I don't use covers and they have lead tape on them. Makes some folks pee in their pants a little. Lol.

Only game one of them and sell/collect the rest of them. If you love the one you game, buy a backup for collection only.

I used to have a lot of them. Sold them all except for a red nylon.

 

I now only buy a headcover when I need to replace my old one, and the one I buy is one I am going to use. In a life where it is easy to accumulate stuff(most times useless stuff), I now only buy to replace when it comes to golf. Except for drivers. For some reason I always end up with two drivers. And irons, but mainly because I can't get myself to sell my MP33s.

I'll never understand collecting headcovers and not using them. I'm not knocking guys that do, it's your money, it's just not the way my brain is wired. I buy to use.

 

If you buy a cover for $100 and it sells used for $50, you've lost $50 for the enjoyment of using your cover. If it goes to $150 re-sale, it's a $100 "loss". I'm good with that $100 if I can enjoy the cover.

 

There are very few that actually go up 100%. And you usually know which ones those are within a month or two.

 

I guess it comes down to:

 

1. If I'm going to gamble, I'll do it in Vegas

2. If I buy something I want to enjoy it. I don't like dust collectors (I suspect this is the key difference)

3. If I'm investing in a future, it's going to be something of substance that has real growth potential.

 

I have a small box of covers and grab one on the way out. I like them all!

I have the same situation. The few I have are unique and look pretty cool. However, I am leaning towards trying to sell most of them because they will be collecting dust without growing much in value.

 

If I step up my putter ho'ing I will hang on to them. I think that only makes the problem worse in relation to cost. :swoon:

My biggest problem with mine is the stupid bag. I feel like if I want to keep them mint and not game them, I might as well leave them in the bag, but there isn't a good way to display them in the bag. If I take them out of the bag, then I feel like I killed the value anyways so I might as well game them.

I dont buy anything to sit on a shelf, I'm not a collector, a lot of guys do and have very nice collections.

I game everything.

There's a limit I'll spend on something I'll game.

As a collector of Jordan I get your dilemma but in my case I buy some to wear and some to keep and display. Pick one you really like and want to game and shelf the rest. I have a well used club Cameron from 08 and just got a USA navy junk yard dog with my custom shop order that I'm going to game even though they are about 100 bucks on eBay.

I have a few that sit in my collection, but for the most part I'll game everything I have as long as I like the looks of the cover.

I played with some guys down in Orlando during the PGA show a couple years ago and I was gaming a 500-600.00 original Cameron paintsplash cover and thought I was cool, Second day I got paired up with a dude gaming an Agave cover. That put me in my place real quick. lol

 

Collecting is cool, but these things are made to USE.

I collect all of mine and display them and don't game them. To me, each one of them is a piece of art and they look so badWord not allowed. I only game the black custom shop nylon cover. The thing is indestructible and it looks awesome in my bag.

I have several, and display them NIB. If I find one that I really love and want to game, then I buy a duplicate. Usually if I am going to buy one to game, I look for one that is slightly used. Personally, I am not going to game the really high value covers. Looking good out there is not worth the depreciation to me. I choose a cover that looks sharp and is durable, then I game it as long as I like. My current gamer is the 2010 Masters. It was the right balance of cost, durability, and looks for me.

I'm not a huge Cameron head, but I have a few from putters I've sent to the Custom Shop. I usually just use them for extra putters that stay in the closet.

Gaming a nice Cameron headcover is a lot like enjoying a fine wine, a nice Tequila or a smooth cigar.

Some things in life cost money to enjoy,

I currently rotate between the Masters/Augusta 2010 & 2011. They were gifts and have some sentimental value to them so I game them. Get lots of compliments, would definitely never sell.

the putterman is such an underrated cover, not much love for this one in the collecting world for some reason. I love that its leather and has a cool character, i use mine every year during Masters week.

The leather has such a great feel to it. Unfortunately mine has faded a bit. Still amazed with how well the leather has held up around the neck of it.

Have a couple of fairly rare covers that were given to me by friends that have subsequently passed away. Those are used solely during annual events played in their memory. Anything else that I own, is meant to be used regularly.
