The one and only player that took his gamer driver to callaway that didn't have the Callaway Epic beat it was playing a ping Driver either a G or GLS with stock Alta shaft.

I gained 3.3 MPH ball speed and 5.5 yards carry.

Without a doubt. Why would UST allow a $250 shaft to be sold by Ping for $50-$65? Why would anyone buy a Chrome from a club fitter if you can get it for much cheaper through Ping?

I think that's one of the reasons PING has never identified who makes their shafts. I must say, the Alta shafts are outstanding and do feel like Chrome's. I played nothing but USTs for a long time. Maybe I'm crazy, but they feel the same.

The stock shaft in the G25 was a UST shaft. I happened to get a good one, and it has performed very well for me. I believe that it is pretty close to a Proforce VTS Red, or maybe Silver.

Unseen, in the background, Fate was quietly slipping the lead into the boxing-glove.  P.G. Wodehouse

I have the stock Alta in my G driver and the Tour in my G 5w. I prefer the Alta. If anyone has an Alta fw shaft that plays at 42.5", let me know.

Having owned a lot of Ping drivers and shafts I can say the following.

Tfc189 (G25 shaft) as well as PWR shaft (i25) and TFC in Anser were all UST shafts.

The Tour 65 and 80 are UST. I reached out to Danny Li at UST who confirmed it's a slightly lighter and slightly tip softer version of the Elements Chrome.

The TFC419 in the G30 and G Alta Shaft are Aldila shafts. Long skinny shaft label.

I would second this. I had a Chrome and compared it to the Tour 65. The Chrome was definitely a bit stouter and had a heavier feeling during the swing. I still always maintain that the AD-DI was a closer comparison from an overall bend profile perspective. I had both of those at the same time as well and it was really hard to notice any differences.

Ping was once on the bleeding edge of innovation, but today I would describe them with:

Fitting

Forgiveness

Quality

Their marketing strategy seems to be "nobody ever went wrong buying Ping."

When you sell $400 drivers and $1000 irons that makes sense.

The fact that Pings hold their value also contributes to this idea. Heck, you can find pre-2000 Ping iron sets selling on eBay for a pretty penny.

Wonder if this is the year we see heavy use of composites and going after Callaway and Tmag for distance or stick with super forgiving high moi designs of the g30 and g. Ping got absolutely left in the dust distance and spin reduction wise with the 16/17 m's and epics but man are those drivers FORGIVING.

good question! I'm curious as well!

New drivers should be showing up at dealers in the next few weeks. A local Ping dealer is expecting one to show up very soon. Have heard more adjustability than G line.

Seems way too soon for that to be true

Just saying what my local Ping rep is telling me. Will have 1 driver in a few weeks.

Agreed. If so, it will be the first time Ping has released before July/August.

Whatever new driver they come out with.. they need to do something about the sound!!

I loved how G30 and G performed and how forgiving they were but the sound were just too awful.

Hot melting to deaden the sound is not viable option for most as their heads are already pretty heavy to begin with.

I removed the back weight from my G and then brought the weight back up with hotmelt. I then only reinserted the screw without the weight. This kept the head weight within normal limits and improved the sound.

Ms and Epic leave G series in dust. Not in my experience went to both Callaway and TaylorMade fittings on different days . Neither could match my G LS Tech I brought with me to find something with more distance. Sorry regardless of shafts or settings (including same shaft in Ping) none were within 5 yards carry of the old G (let alone total distance). The Epics matched the dispersion of the G but not either M. I'm not a fan of the Ping sound but the Epics sounded absolutely dead like the old fully foamed Pittsburgh Persimmon days (TaylorMade). The Ms both sounded good. But both of the latest and greatest didn't match what I had. The TaylorMade guy wanted to keep going but I was exhausted. The Callaway guy gave up trying to match let alone exceed what I brought..

I had a similar experience. While I could gain a couple of yards in distance I couldnt get the new offerings to come close to the accuracy and consistency of my Ping G 9*. The fitter tried all the adjustments, different shafts but nothing made them better overall than the Ping. However, I must confess that over the past 40yrs of playing golf I've always found that I get used to a driver over time and its hard to compare a new driver with one I've used for a while as I tend to hit my current driver better. It must be a comfort or confidence thing.

I undid the weight screw, inserted some yarn into my G30 LS and it certainly muted the sound and feels more solid (although that could be attributed to the sound as well).

The Epic could not beat my Ping G driver with a Tour Blue shaft in it for me. SS is 105 and the G was longer and straighter than the Epic.

Phil would hit a lot more fairways with the Ping than the epic, that is for sure.

That's why PING is the #1 driver in golf.....wait.

It's almost as if Callaway and TaylorMade aren't paying a ton of money to players to get that ranking

You mean PING doesn't pay tour players? Bubba plays for free? What a generous fellow.
