Rickie Fowler's custom Puma golf shoes honoring Arnold Palmer: 2017 API

RICKIE FOWLER & PUMA GOLF TO AUCTION OFF CUSTOM GOLF SHOES IN TRIBUTE TO THE LEGENDARY ARNOLD PALMER, PROCEEDS WILL SUPPORT ARNIE’S ARMY CHARITABLE FOUNDATION

 

Arnold Palmer’s legacy will live on this week as Rickie Fowler heads to Bay Hill for the first Arnold Palmer Invitational since his passing, with plans to pay tribute to The King. Throughout the week Rickie will sport the iconic umbrella logo on his hat and polo, and on Wednesday, Fowler will wear a commemorative pair of PUMA Golf IGNITE Hi-Tops featuring iconic images of the legendary Palmer.

 

The custom PUMA Golf Hi-Tops were designed and created by Dominic Chambrone, also known as The Shoe Surgeon, as commissioned by PUMA Golf. Only two pairs of the shoes exist – one Rickie will wear, and the other, personally autographed by Rickie, will be auctioned off for charity. All proceeds from the auction will go to support Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation.

 

"I feel privileged to have known Arnie and be able to call him a friend. I wanted to do something to celebrate what he did on the course and more importantly how he used his platform to benefit others through his Foundation,” said Fowler. “He is the King after all!!"

 

As part of the design process, Chambrone utilized a high-grade infused graphic printed directly into the leather, resulting in a vibrant, high-quality finish. He then hand-cut each piece to fit the exact specs of the PUMA Golf Hi-Top. Other key features:

· The Velcro strap is laser engraved with Palmer’s signature.

· Behind the tongue of the left shoe is the iconic umbrella logo that has become synonymous with Arnold’s brands.

· Behind the tongue of the right shoe includes a quote from Fowler in remembrance of The King. It reads: “Legends never die. You will live on forever Arnie. I will never forget the bear hug in front of the clubhouse at Augusta, watching you hit your final tee shot there, and to spending time with you in the locker room at Bay Hill. Thank you for being you and giving me the opportunity to do what I get to do everyday! I love you as did everyone! RIP The King.”

To anyone who "wouldn't wear these" I'll remind you they're a 1 of 2 tribute item; they will be auctioned at a price a little bit above your adidas boa's haha!! They'll end up on a proud owners wall or in a collection for sure.

 

Great tribute though and neat idea. I think it's cool players are honoring him in their own, unique ways. Who would think to have shoes like these made? Unique to Rickie, for sure.

I love it, love the shoes and the way he is honoring Mr. Palmer...I guess I am the odd one out, I would wear these or any of the high tops he wears, I really do not care what people say, again, I love it!!!!

I hope these raise a ton of money for charity. For a collector they are a very cool piece. Classy move by all involved.

I like the theme, but if honoring a legend, why not go with something more classic looking. I think ridiculous looking high tops are not the best medium for honoring one of the classiest figures in the game. It would be like honoring Mozart with a limited edition keytar. Though this may be a rant, I think the PGA tour needs to rein in some of these outfits. I kept mistaking Tony Finau last week in his Nike joggers, t-shirt, and high tops, for a caddy. I'm all for modernizing the game but it doesn't need to come at the expense of its class.

We all complain about the young kids not knowing the history of the game and the players that paved the way for them. I think it's a very classy move by Rickie and Puma. I love that they are doing it in their own way, as well. If we want our great game to continue on after we pass, I think criticizing their style of dress is not the way to go. Do you want to go back to watching guys in drenched cotton polos / "swamp a**" wool slacks all for the sake of keeping tradition? That doesn't play well in HD and it makes me want to switch the channel. Just my 2 cents.

And another reason to like Rickie Fowler. He seems to have a fine sense for the tradition of the game and for doing the right thing at the right time. He showed it in his support for Golf at the Olympics, and here he is again. He shows that you can wear flashy attire without giving up the integrity and tradition of golf. I LIKE!!
